The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent left-hander Fernando Abad to a minor-league deal on Thursday. Abad began the 2023 season with the Colorado Rockies but was released after posting a 4.26 ERA (8.16 FIP), 2.21 WHIP, three walks and two strikeouts in just 6 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. The 37-year-old veteran southpaw was a bit better at Triple-A Albuquerque, sporting a 3.86 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, three saves and 32 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings over 26 relief appearances. Abad will strictly provide the Brewers with some left-handed relief depth in the minors, and he remains well off the fantasy radar for the rest of the year.

According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Monday, the Colorado Rockies have reportedly signed left-handed relief pitcher Fernando Abad to a minor-league contract. Heyman tweeted the following on Monday morning: "Rockies sign LHP Fernando Abad to a minor league contract with a non roster invite to big league camp." The veteran relief pitcher has made an even 400 appearances at the Major League level. All told, he's logged a 3.77 ERA and a 4.22 FIP in 348.1 career innings of work. He pitched in 16 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2021, throwing 17.2 innings for the American League East club while registering a 5.60 ERA and a 3.96 FIP. Most recently, Abad threw 43 innings for the Seattle Mariners Triple-A affiliate in 2022, pitching to a 3.56 ERA, a 4.79 FIP, 32 strikeouts, and 12 walks.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants left-hander Tony Watson has exercised his player option for 2020, which was increased from $2.5 million to $3 million as part of an amended contract.San Francisco declined a $1.4 million option on left-hander Fernando Abad, who gets a $150,000 buyout and can become a free agent following Saturday's decision.The 34-year-old Watson went 2-2 with a 4.17 ERA in 60 games for the Giants last season.As part of the amended contract, Watson's $500,000 performance bonus for 25 games pitched was eliminated in exchange for the increased guarantee.
