Canaan collected 16 points (5-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-5 FT), four assists, a rebound, and a steal in 29 minutes of action Thursday against the Cavaliers.

Canaan is in line to start the season at point guard, and has wasted no time getting his three-point shot uncorked. The 24-year-old has sunk in three shots from beyond the arc in each of the Sixers' first two preseason contests, and his elevated level of attempts (13 over the two games) are in line with the 7.4 he averaged in 2014-15 after his trade from the Rockets. Canaan will need to improve on the 38 percent shooting he posted with the Sixers last season, and has poured in points at a 46 percent clip over the first two exhibitions.

Canaan received the start at point guard in Tuesday's preseason loss to the Wizards, scoring 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and adding six assists and five rebounds.

Canaan's standing as the top point guard on the depth chart could be threatened once at least one of Tony Wroten or Kendall Marshall fully recovers from a torn ACL, but with both expected to be sidelined through at least the end of the month, the former Murray State standout should be an opening-night starter for the Sixers. As a volume three-point shooter, don't count on Canaan to convert at a 50-percent rate from the field most nights like he did Tuesday, but with a high allotment of minutes headed his way in the early going, the counting stats should pile up quickly.

Canaan was traded from the Rockets to the 76ers in February. In 22 regular season games with the 76ers he averaged 12.6 points (38% FG, 36% 3Pt, 85% FT), 2.7 three-pointers, 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 26 minutes per game.

Canaan benefited from a mid-season trade, as he logged far more minutes with the 76ers compared to the Rockets. With Tony Wroten out for the year and Michael-Carter Williams getting traded, he only had to compete with Ish Smith for the starting point guard spot. Heading into 2015-2016, though, Canaan's future with the team is uncertain, as the team hasn't locked in his non-garuanteed contract yet. Even if he does return, a healthy Wroten will likely cut into his playing time, making his fantasy upside rather limited.

Canaan (foot) has been working at full speed for the past two weeks, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Canaan sprained his right foot during the final week of the regular season, and he was sidelined for about two months while recovering. He shed his walking boot on May 30 and has been working out without restriction of late, so it appears safe to declare that he's moved past the injury.

Canaan sustained a sprained foot last Wednesday at Washington, and after missing the last two games, he was seen donning a protective boot Tuesday. In 47 games, including 21 starts, between Houston and Philadelphia this season, he averaged 9.2 points (on 39 percent shooting), 2.1 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.9 three-pointers in 20 minutes. He'll enter next season on a partially guaranteed contract with the Sixers, meaning summer league action is likely in his future.

Canaan was seen wearing a protective boot on his injured foot, Tom Moore of Calkins Media reports.

Canaan has already missed the past two games with a sprained right ankle, and this development does not bode well for his playing status Wednesday. It may just be a precaution, but it's possible that Canaan does not play again this season, and should be considered doubtful for the Sixers' upcoming game.

Canaan will miss the 76ers' next two games with a sprained right foot, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Canaan suffered the injury in the final few minutes of Wednesday's game against the Wizards. The team will rest Canaan for their weekend back-to-back set with the hope that it allows him adequate recovery time ahead of their April 8 rematch with the Wizards. With Canaan out of the picture, Ish Smith figures to log an even heavier minutes load, while Jakarr Sampson could see more playing time as the point guard for the 76ers' second unit.

Canaan sprained his right ankle Wednesday at Washington and didn't return.

Canaan suffered the ailment with 4:44 remaining in the game, so his departure may have been a precautionary measure. No matter, he put up 18 points (7-12 FG, 4-9 3Pt), six assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench. Until the extent of the injury is known, consider him questionable for Saturday's game at Charlotte.

Canaan had a terrible night Sunday, shooting just 1-for-12 from the floor (1-6 3Pt). He came off the bench to play 22 minutes and finished the game with three points, one rebound and two assists.

Canaan certainly isn't known for being a sharpshooter, but his recent run of games has been exceptionally bad. He has show 36 percent or worse from the floor in each of his past four games, and so far in March, he's shooting 35.9 percent.

Canaan contributed 12 points (4-11 FG, 4-8 3Pt), two assists, and one steal in 20 minutes off the bench Friday against the Knicks.

Canaan lost his spot in the starting lineup to Ish Smith and Smith seems to have more value than Canaan as a result. However, Canaan still provides value in standard leagues because of his shooting from beyond the arc. In evidence of this, Canaan is averaging 3.2 threes over his last 10 games.

Canaan returned to the starting lineup with seven points (3-9 FG, 1-7 3Pt) and five assists in 23 minutes in the win over the Kings on Friday.

Canaan came off the bench Wednesday against the Bulls because of an illness. He had his lowest scoring game since Mar. 1 and his worst 3-point shooting since coming to Philadelphia. Canaan had hit 22 3-pointers in his previous five games.

Canaan will get the start Friday, Sixers.com's Max Rappaport reports.

He came off the bench in his last game as he was dealing with a minor illness, but now that he is back to full strength he will re-assume a bigger workload with the first unit going forward. Canaan should be deployed in the majority of formats.

Ish Smith got the start on Wednesday, but Canaan will likely resume his starting role once he's shaken the bug out of his system. Over his last five games, Canaan is averaging an impressive 18.6 points, 4.4 threes, 4.2 assists and 3.6 boards.

Canaan has been dealing with a respiratory infection that caused him to miss practice Tuesday, but he will be available Wednesday. An earlier report indicated that Canaan will not be in the starting lineup Wednesday, however.

Coach Brett Brown said he anticipates Canaan being available, though he noted that he will not start him. The reasoning for that decision isn't exactly clear, but the Sixers' rotation has vacillated as much as any team's this season, so it's certainly not overly surprising.

Canaan has emerged as a fine late-season steal in fantasy leagues, as he's averaging nearly 14 points, four assists and three rebounds since being traded to the Sixers. While that production has certainly advanced Canaan's stock, the point guard may miss Wednesday's game due to his respiratory infection. Should that happen, Ish Smith would figure to take the reins of Philadelphia's offense versus the Bulls.

Canaan finished with 31 points (10-16 FG, 8-13 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds, six assists and one steal in 42 minutes in overtime against the Thunder.

Canaan is the man at point guard moving forward. He's in an ideal situation where even if he struggles, he's likely to continue to play as much as he can. Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Wroten have put crazy numbers for the Sixers over the past year and a half, Canaan is the next man in line and could have a great rest of the season in Brett Brown's system.

Canaan scored 14 points (5-12 FG, 4-8 3Pt) with three assists in 25 minutes during Monday's loss to the Raptors.

He's been a decent scoring threat since he joined the Sixers, averaging 10.5 points and 2.3 threes in six games, but Canaan hasn't made much of a contribution in other categories and Ish Smith has done a better job facilitating the offense off the bench. The team likely views Canaan has the better long-term asset, so his starting job may not be at risk, but Smith is the point guard that has more fantasy value.

Canaan made his debut with the Sixers on Sunday and was thrust directly into the starting point guard role. He put up 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block, and four three-pointers in 29 minutes.

Most of his action has come in the D-League over his first two season in the league, and threw four games in the D-League this season, he averaged 21 points, 3.5 rebounds, 8.5 asssists, 0.8 steals, and 3.8 three-pointers in 36 minutes per game. Realistically, what we'll see on the Sixers is stats close to those but with some reductions in assists and three-pointers. Canaan should be owned in most leagues until it's clear what his celiing is going to be with the Sixers.

Canaan will start Sunday against the Magic, CSN Philly reports.

Canaan, generally known as a scoring point guard, will take over the starting spot vacated by the traded Michael Carter-Williams, but it remains to be seen if Canaan will take over the same role MCW had with the Sixers. If the team relies on Canaan to score, he could get close to the 15 shots per game that MCW averaged in Philadelphia this season, which would make him a good volume scorer, good for leagues that don't take shooting percentage into account.
