Drew Sutton walked off the Pirates Tuesday with a solo blast in the bottom of the ninth against the Astros' Wesley Wright.
Sutton also had a couple singles and scored a run earlier in the game. He's been a pleasant surprise since being re-acquired by the Pirates last month, batting .407 with a homer and four RBI over eight games. He should continue to see regular time in right field with Jose Tabata in the minors and makes for a worthwhile NL-only play.

Sutton, who signed a minor league deal with Atlanta in November, flashed potential last year with the Red Sox, batting .315/.362/.444 in 60 plate appearances. The 29-year-old journeyman hit .270/.374/.372 in 38 games at Triple-A Gwinnett this year. He'll likely serve as a backup infielder in Indy.

A versatile defender capable of playing in both the infield and outfield, Sutton was batting .304 to go along with a .385 on-base percentage, five home runs and 26 RBI through his first 156 plate appearances for Pawtucket. He'll plug holes for the Red Sox as needed.

The utilityman has batted .229/.302/.381 with three homers over 105 major league at-bats with the Reds and Indians. Sutton has shown some upside at times in the minors, most notably with a 20-20 season at Double-A in 2008, but at 27 and with his third organization in less than a year, at this point he's just hoping to earn a bench job, which he probably won't get in Boston.

Indians claimed infielder Drew Sutton off waivers from the Reds.
Sutton had a tremendous season in the high minors and the Arizona Fall League in 2008, but he hasn't done much since. The 27-year-old switch-hitter was batting .262/.366/.365 in 263 at-bats for Triple-A Louisville this season, though he did go 2-for-3 with a homer during his brief stint with the Reds in May. The Indians could choose to add him to the mix at second and third at some point within the next few weeks. He has limited upside, but he could contribute as a part-timer.

He will stick with the team for a few days while Paul Janish is on the bereavement list. Sutton, 26, was batting .268/.347/.386 with two homers and 16 RBI in 127 at-bats with the Bats this season. He batted .212/.297/.348 with one home run and nine RBI in 66 at-bats with the big club in '09.
