Thu Sep 13 201209:11Timberwolves giving up hope on landing Okur
Unrestricted FA Mehmet Okur is not an option for the Timberwolves anymore.
Minnesota had been sniffing around Okur for some time, but the team won't offer him more than the veteran's minimum and he's apparently got no interest in that. For what it's worth, Kenyon Martin is not an option for the team either, but that has never been pegged as a player the team was seriously targeting.

Mon Sep 10 201214:46Okur's salary demands scare off Real Madrid
Real Madrid reportedly inquired about free agent Mehmet Okur, but "hung up the phone" when they heard his contract demands.
Okur has never been a great defender or rebounder, and he has been particularly ineffective since 2010, the result of Achilles surgery and chronic back injuries. He has refused to sign for the veteran's minimum in the NBA and will probably end up signing with a team in Turkey.

Mon Sep 10 201210:38Report: Galatasaray interested in Mehmet Okur
Galatasaray is interested in signing Mehmet Okur.
The Turkish team would make sense for Okur, who actually signed in Turkey during the NBA lockout last season. He really hasn't had a market stateside whatsoever beyond Minnesota's reported interest and it wouldn't be surprising to see him finish his career overseas.

Wed Sep 5 201217:03Mehmet Okur still on Timberwolves radar
The Timberwolves still have Mehmet Okur on their radar, but are only able to offer the veteran's minimum at this time.
Okur has repeatedly said he won't sign for the minimum, so it seems like the Turkish big man and the T-Wolves are playing a game of chicken right now. If Okur is willing to come down on his salary demands Minnesota may be interested, but until then he may need to look overseas to command a bigger paycheck and/or larger role.

Fri Aug 17 201219:51Minnesota could make an offer to Okur
The Timberwolves may try to offer Mehmet Okur the veteran minimum.
The veteran minimum is all the Timberwolves could offer, so they'd have to be considered as an underdog to acquire the Turkish center. Okur dealt with back issues in 2012 and played just 17 games. There's no reason to even think about drafting him.

Thu Jun 14 201217:50Report: Mehmet Okur heading to Turkey
The Turkish media is reporting that F/C Mehmet Okur may be returning to Turkey to sign with Fenerbahce Ulker.
Okur has played a grand total of 30 NBA games over the past two seasons thanks to a bad back and was most recently waived by the Trail Blazers after never playing a game for them. There's still a chance he could end up back in the NBA at some point, but it doesn't appear to be likely.

Okur's back just isn't a good bet to hold up under the stress of basketball activities. He's a guy that needs to prove himself before owners should pay him any attention.

Tue Jan 31 201211:30Mehmet Okur undergoes 'back procedure'
Mehmet Okur (back) "had a procedure" and will be sidelined until at least Saturday.
Back troubles have been persistent for Okur all season. That leaves Johan Petro as the starting center for the Nets, but owners in standard sized leagues shouldn't be viewing him a as a sport-start. He's averaging just 4.2 points and 2.9 rebounds this year and doesn't figure to be an integral part of the offense despite all of the injuries the team is currently dealing with at this time.

Mehmet Okur will see a back specialist in New York on Monday and isn't expected to play on Tuesday.
A recent MRI came back negative but Okur's chronic back pain simply won't abate. With Brook Lopez possibly returning in a few weeks, there's no reason to be holding Okur at this point.
