Thu Mar 21 201316:28Dodgers not interested in 3B Scott Rolen
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Thursday that he has no plans to reach out to free agent Scott Rolen.
Some have speculated that the Dodgers could reach out to Rolen now that Hanley Ramirez (thumb) will be out until late-May, but they plan to move ahead with internal options. As of now, Luis Cruz is likely to fill in at shortstop while Juan Uribe, Nick Punto and Jerry Hairston, Jr. will alternate at third base. Dee Gordon could also be an option at shortstop.

The Dodgers have interest in Rolen and would be able to offer him more playing time.

Thu Jan 31 201310:53Scott Rolen wants to continue playing career
According to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer, free agent Scott Rolen "wants to play."
Fay suspects that money could be an issue with the Reds, who are "at or above their budget for payroll" and that Rolen could wind up with the Dodgers. The 37-year-old third baseman batted just .245/.318/.398 last season but could see regular playing time in Los Angeles if he's healthy. Luis Cruz is currently penciled in as the Dodgers' starter at the hot corner.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has spoken to free agent third baseman Scott Rolen.
ESPN's Buster Olney has reported in recent weeks that the Dodgers have considered making a run at Rolen, but the 37-year-old would prefer to stay in Cincinnati if he continues his career. Still a gold glove caliber defender, if healthy Rolen would represent an upgrade over Luis Cruz at third base for the Dodgers.

Scott Rolen hasn't made up his mind about retirement.
ESPN's Buster Olney reported last week that the Dodgers were mulling making a run at Rolen, but he has told people that if he continues his career, he would prefer to stay with the Reds. Given that the Reds plan to use Todd Frazier as their starting third baseman and Jack Hannahan as a utility man, it's hard to see them as a fit.

Wed Dec 12 201212:12Rolen could play one more season with Reds
According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, Scott Rolen has suggested to the Reds that he may want to come to spring training in hopes of playing another season.
Knobler writes that the Reds would be "more than happy to give him a chance," as they believe he could help on the field and in the clubhouse. The Reds acquired Jason Donald on Tuesday night and are set to sign Jack Hannahan as a backup to Todd Frazier at third base, so it's hard to see him as a fit with Cincinnati. But he apparently isn't ready to retire yet.

Whether or not he would accept such a role remains to be seen. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported last month that Rolen was expected to retire.
