Tue Dec 6 201117:17Juan Miranda signs with Rays
Rays signed 1B Juan Miranda to a minor league contract.
Miranda, 28, hit just .213/.315/.402 with seven home runs and 23 RBI in 65 games for the Diamondbacks in 2011 and didn't do much in his time at Triple-A, either. He's not a bad guy to have for depth purposes. Miranda will get a spring training invite, but it's unlikely he'd have a real shot to win the first base job.

Wed Jun 29 201118:55Juan Miranda goes hitless in loss
Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
That's four straight hitless games for Miranda. Xavier Nady isn't doing much of anything either, so we're wondering if the Diamondbacks might not make a switch at first base this weekend. Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Allen are both candidates to take over.

Fri Jun 17 201102:06Juan Miranda goes hitless against Giants
Starting for the first time in three games, Juan Miranda went 0-for-4 and struck out twice on Thursday.
Manager Kirk Gibson has done nothing but jerk Miranda around all year, and it's probably going to take a prolonged hot streak for that to change. Given that Miranda doesn't have a whole lot of upside, there's always the chance the Diamondbacks will simply bail on him and try Paul Goldschmidt instead.

Fri Jun 3 201110:02Miranda's Friday status iffy
Juan Miranda's status for Arizona's Friday tilt with the Nationals remains unclear after he was a late scratch with a sore neck on Thursday.
He suffered the injury in a collision with pitcher Daniel Hudson on Wednesday when they were chasing after a foul ball. "They both hit the ground hard," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He had something with his neck. We knew about it last night, but we thought he'd be OK." Going by Gibson's tone, it wouldn't be surprising if Miranda gets another day off on Friday. His status will be updated later this evening.

Fri May 27 201123:24Miranda posts first career two-homer game
Juan Miranda erupted on Friday evening, homering twice and driving in four runs in Arizona's 7-6 win over the Astros.
He took Brett Myers deep for a two-run shot in the fifth inning before tagging him for another two-run bomb in the sixth. The multi-homer game was the first of his career, and brings his season home run total to five. With Russell Branyan now out of the picture in Arizona, Miranda is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.

Sun May 22 201101:43Juan Miranda knocks in three runs
Juan Miranda doubled twice and knocked in three runs Saturday against the Twins.
With Russell Branyan gone, Miranda should turn into a fixture against right-handed pitchers, making him a decent option in NL-only leagues. He has seven hits in his last three starts, raising his average to .269.

Fri May 20 201102:35Juan Miranda goes 3-for-4 against Braves
Juan Miranda went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple against the Braves on Thursday.
With three straight starts, it looks like Miranda is again getting a chance to establish himself as Arizona's first baseman. He's gone 6-for-12 over the last three games, but with just six RBI in 75 at-bats on the season, he hasn't done much to help fantasy leaguers yet.

Mon May 16 201122:56Miranda (thumb) out of D-Backs lineup
Juan Miranda (thumb) was out of the Diamondbacks' lineup again for Monday's game against the Padres.
Miranda has made some pinch-hit appearances over the past few days, but he hasn't started a game since last Tuesday due to a sore left thumb. Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson acknowledged Sunday that the injury could require a stint on the disabled list. Xavier Nady made the start at first base Monday.

Thu May 5 201100:36D'Backs' Miranda hits second homer
Juan Miranda hit his second homer and walked Wednesday in the loss to the Rockies.
It was what happened after the walk that makes us doubt he'll start tomorrow: with the Diamondbacks down 6-1 in the sixth, he was caught stealing for the first out of the inning. Our guess is that he thought the hit-and-run was on, though we doubt it was. Miranda has only been starting about once every three days, and mental gaffes like that don't help his case for additional at-bats.
