Mon Aug 31 201512:33Saffold (arm) could return to practice this week
Saffold (arm) could return to practice this week, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Saffold is easily the most experienced of the projected starters on the Rams' offensive line, so they couldn't afford to have him miss meaningful time. If he can return, it will help St. Louis' running game, as it was atrocious without him in Saturday's preseason loss.

Saffold (shoulder) left Friday's preseason game against Oakland and did not return.
Saffold has always had issues with injuries, so this is not a good sign for the Rams. He's the most veteran presence on an inexperienced line, so the Rams' offense is going to struggle if they have to put another youngster in the starting lineup.
Sun Nov 2 201415:19Saffold (shoulder) active for Sunday's contest at San Francisco
Saffold (shoulder) is active for Sunday's contest at San Francisco, Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site reports.
The Rams suffered injuries to three key cogs of the offensive last Sunday -- also, Scott Wells (elbow) and Jake Long (knee) -- but both Wells and Saffold are healthy enough to cover center and left guard, respectively.

Saffold (shoulder) is probable for Sunday's game against San Francisco.
Saffold's presence is a bit reassuring for the Rams, but the line is still looking vulnerable with Jake Long (knee) out.
Mon Oct 27 201412:49Saffold left Sunday's loss to Chiefs with shoulder injury
Saffold left Sunday's loss to the Chiefs with a shoulder injury, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
It's not known how severe the injury is, but Saffold was one of three offensive lineman that failed to finish the game. The Rams' offense, especially its running game, will struggle if Saffold and center Scott Wells can't return soon, as Chris Long is already done for the year.
Wed Sep 3 201421:14Saffold will get start ahead of Greg Robinson to begin season
Saffold will get the start ahead of Greg Robinson to begin the season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The Rams gave a big contract to Saffold in the offseason and it wasn't to ride the bench. Robinson is obviously St. Louis' guard of the future but the Rams want to bring him up slowly.
Wed Aug 20 201422:43Saffold (shoulder) participating in practice again
Saffold (shoulder) is participating in practice again, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
A healthy Saffold will help the Rams quite a bit, as he's a projected starter and the depth is not great along the line. His play will be one of the keys to Zac Stacy improving on a solid rookie campaign.
Sat Aug 2 201420:30Saffold missed Saturday's practice with hand/wrist injury
Saffold missed Saturday's practice with a hand/wrist injury, ESPN.com reports.
Saffold's injury doesn't appear to be serious, but the Rams don't want to take any chances with a key offensive lineman. He should be back in the fold within the next week.
Thu Mar 13 201410:20Rodger Saffold back with Rams on $31.7M deal
Rodger Saffold's contract with the Rams is a five-year, $31.7 million deal that includes $19.5 million guaranteed.
On Tuesday, Saffold agreed to terms with the Raiders on a five-year, $42.5 million deal that included $21 million guaranteed. But team doctors said his shoulder would need surgery immediately, so they backed out of the deal. Meanwhile, the Rams have no issues whatsoever with Saffold's shoulder and are thrilled to get him back as a key piece of their still thin offensive line. He loses out on $10.8 million in total money, but only $1.5 million in guaranteed money during this mess.

Wed Mar 12 201423:26Report: Raiders owner called off Saffold deal
NFL.com's Mike Silver reports it was Raiders owner Mark Davis who nixed the Rodger Saffold deal.
Davis apparently had concerns about the shoulder Saffold injured last preseason. Per Silver, Saffold "could have had surgery and been ready for training camp," but Davis wouldn't have it. It's a troubling development for many reasons. It shows a lack of faith in GM Reggie McKenzie, and is an indication that, despite his protestations to the contrary, Davis has some of his father's management style to him. Davis has left egg on his GM's face, and his offensive line without a left tackle. It's a sad state of affairs in Oakland.

Wed Mar 12 201422:31Dumped by Raiders, Saffold re-ups with Rams
Rams agreed to terms with G/T Rodger Saffold on a five-year contract.
Simply beyond belief. After having his five-year, $42.5 million ($21.5 million guaranteed) agreement with the Raiders torn up over concerns with his shoulder, Saffold returns to the team that took him in the second round of the 2010 draft. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams have "no concerns whatsoever" with Saffold's shoulder. Signed to man the blindside in Oakland, Saffold will likely play guard in St. Louis, though he could start the year at left tackle if Jake Long (ACL) isn't ready. The Rams' line was looking worrisomely thin before Saffold fell back into their laps. Oakland is back to Square 1 in a tackle market that's already been picked over.

Wed Mar 12 201422:08Saffold fails physical, Raiders deal voided
Ex-Rams G/T Rodger Saffold has failed his physical with the Raiders, and will not be signing.
Saffold's five-year, $42.5 million ($21.6 million guaranteed) contract is history, and he's once again a free agent. It's to the point where we just feel bad for Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, who is simply out of his depth. Valuing Saffold more, the Raiders let perfectly fine in-house option Jared Veldheer walk. Now they have neither player, and a titanic hole on Terrelle Pryor/Matt McGloin/Unsigned Free Agent's blindside. As for Saffold, it wasn't exactly a secret that his health was a question mark. He's missed 17 games over the past three seasons, battling a litany of injuries. More versatile than effective, he'll go back to shopping his wares as a guard who can play tackle. The Raiders are going to be historically bad in 2014.

Sun Mar 9 201421:20Saffold informs Rams he won't be back
Free agent G/T Rodger Saffold informed the Rams on Sunday that he won't be re-signing.
Saffold is expected to sign with either Tampa Bay or Oakland. The Raiders are the favorites with reports indicating they're offering Saffold a whopping $8 million per year. Before free agency, we would've said Saffold "did well" if he landed a contract worth $6 million annually. The Rams have an awful lot of work to do on the offensive line. They badly wanted Saffold back to play guard.

Sun Mar 9 201417:00Cardinals interest in Rodger Saffold cools
The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals' interest in free agent G/T Rodger Saffold "appears to have cooled."
Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers confirms Branden Albert is expected to sign with Miami, so Arizona has "apparently set their sights" on Jared Veldheer. It's possible the Cards' interest in Saffold was never especially strong. They want a left tackle, and Saffold is best suited to play guard or right tackle.

Sat Mar 8 201415:43Fins 'reach out' to FAs Saffold and Veldheer
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins "reached out" to the representatives for free agents G/T Rodger Saffold and LT Jared Veldheer on Saturday.
LT Branden Albert is believed to be the Dolphins' top priority in free agency. They'd reportedly like to sign Saffold as a guard, though they're not opposed to Saffold playing left tackle. Veldheer and Eugene Monroe would be fallback options for Miami if it can't land Albert. We'd almost prefer both Veldheer and Monroe to an aging Albert. Offensive line is GM Dennis Hickey's main focus.

Fri Mar 7 201412:48Free agent G/T afford to hit open market
Free agent G/T Rodger Saffold's agent said his client will test the open market.
"Rodger definitely will be out in the free-agent market," Saffold's agent said. The Rams and Saffold talked this week, but Saffold likely wants to see if a team is willing to pay him to play left tackle. The Rams want him to play right guard. Due to his versatility, we expect Saffold to have a healthy market despite injury concerns.

Mon Mar 3 201422:03Rams, Saffold talks to intensify this week
Profootballtalk reports contract talks between the Rams and free agent G/T Rodger Saffold are expected to "intensify" this week.
The Rams have made it clear Saffold is their top priority. After not slapping him with the franchise or transition tag Monday, the Rams only hold exclusive negotiating rights with Saffold until Saturday. Talks have reportedly been "productive" to date, but Saffold may be poised to test the market.

Fri Feb 28 201416:28Rodger Saffold doesn't want to play RT
The player rep for free agent OL Rodger Saffold is telling people his client doesn't want to play right tackle.
Saffold either wants to be a guard or left tackle. Saffold's willingness to play guard increases the chances St. Louis re-signings him, because that's where coach Jeff Fisher believes Saffold best fits. If Saffold does reach the open market, "several teams" are expected to pursue him. He turns 26 in June.
