Tue Jun 17 201416:20Shane Battier confirms retirement from NBA
Shane Battier confirmed to Heat coach Erik Spoelstra that he will retire this summer after 12 years in the NBA.
Battier made his decision months ago and Miami's march through the Eastern Conference didn't inspire him to make one more run at a championship in 2014-15. He's expected to work as an analyst for ESPN next season, though it wouldn't be surprising to see the cerebral Duke alum coaching an NBA team in the future.

Wed Jun 11 201413:27Shane Battier a 'sideline coach' for Heat
Shane Battier frequently calls out opposing team's plays for the Heat, but he finds it harder to do against Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich because "he has about 500 plays."
Battier effectively forecast many of the Pacers' offensive sets in the Eastern Conference finals, leading to a cat-and-mouse game with coach Frank Vogel, but he's been less effective while watching his team fall into a 1-2 hole in the Finals. The veteran forward hasn't done much on the court, either, going scoreless in a combined 16 minutes of action with a DNP-CD in Game 2.

Mon Jun 2 201413:24Shane Battier to retire, work for ESPN
Shane Battier is expected to work for ESPN as a college basketball analyst next season, according to The Big Lead.
That would mean Battier is going to retire at age 35, which was expected. He played a career-low 20.1 minutes per game last season with the Heat and scored just 4.1 points per game. His contract expires after this season, but the deal with ESPN isn't expected to be announced unit latter the NBA Finals.

Sat May 24 201410:44Shane Battier named NBA Teammate of Year
Miami Heat forward Shane Battier has been named the NBA Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year.
The NBA will make a donation of $25,000 to Battier's Take Charge Foundation. While Battier has had a quiet postseason, Battier's locker room influence is clearly monumental. Charlotte's Al Jefferson placed second while Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki placed third.

Wed May 21 201413:37Shane Battier quiet after shift to Heat bench
Shane Battier moved to a bench role on Tuesday, scoring three points with zero rebounds in eight minutes of action.
Udonis Haslem took over the PF position but he also had a quiet game, scoring seven points with three rebounds in 19 minutes, and it will be interesting to see if coach Erik Spoelstra tweaks his lineup again for Game 3. The Heat gave up 16 offensive boards while being out-rebounded on Tuesday, but their defense limited Indiana to 83 points on 40.0 percent shooting in Miami's clutch road win.

Tue May 6 201418:25Shane Battier (flu) starts, Haslem to bench
Shane Battier (flu) will replace Udonis Haslem in Miami's starting lineup for Tuesday's game.
Battier recently got over his illness and it makes sense for coach Erik Spoelstra to deploy Battier against the Nets, who start Paul Pierce at power forward. The small-ball trend continued with another minor tweak, as Michael Beasley replaced Greg Oden on Miami's active roster.

Sat May 3 201411:07Shane Battier (flu) limited at Heat practice
Shane Battier was limited during Friday's practice due to a lingering flu.
"I'm almost there. I'm not doing great, but I got tired of staying home," Battier said on Friday. He played a mere two minutes during the first round of the playoffs, as coach Erik Spoelstra gave more playing time to James Jones, Udonis Haslem and Chris Andersen.

Mon Apr 14 201418:32Shane Battier will start vs. Wizards
Shane Battier will start against the Wizards on Monday.
He'll join Mario Chalmers, Toney Douglas, Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem in the starting lineup. Battier should get his fair share of corner 3-pointers, so he's worth a look for owners looking to add at least two of their 3-pointers total.

Tue Apr 8 201419:38Shane Battier starts in place of Haslem
Shane Battier will start in place of Udonis Haslem (virus) on Tuesday.
Battier gives the Heat a different look and he may match up better anyway, since the Nets deploy Paul Pierce at PF when Kevin Garnett isn't active (he's out Tuesday). Fantasy owners shouldn't expect more than a few 3-pointers from Battier, who is expected to retire after this season.

Mon Mar 31 201413:28Shane Battier confirms retirement plans
Shane Battier confirmed that he plans to retire this summer, saying, "It would take an act of the basketball gods to bring me back next year."
Battier is averaging career-lows in most categories this season, including points (4.2), rebounds (2.0), assists (0.9) and minutes (20.4). The time for a career retrospective will come soon enough, but for now the 35-year-old is focused on gearing up for another title defense with Miami.

Wed Feb 12 201423:25Shane Battier gets five stitches on Wednesday
Shane Battier needed five stitches over his left eye and will return to Wednesday's game.
He was bleeding pretty badly and had some words for David Lee. Battier is a deep-league specialist for his output in corner treys.

Thu Feb 6 201402:29Shane Battier comes up with 14 points
Shane Battier scored 14 points with one board, two assists and four 3-pointers in 27 minutes against the Clippers on Wednesday.
In traditional Battier fashion, three of his four 3-pointers came from the corner. Last season he led the NBA in corner threes and it's easy to see why with all the driving and kicking of the Miami offense. This year he's out of the top 10 due to his minutes dropping to just 20.5 per game this season, making him a low-upside player to have in deeper leagues.

Sun Feb 2 201401:17Shane Battier scores season-high 16 points
Shane Battier started and hit 5-of-8 shots and four 3-pointers for a season-high 16 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists in Saturday's win over the Knicks.
Battier had scored a grand total of 10 points over his previous four games and this looks like a fluke. Just keep an eye on him in case the Heat actually have plans to run plays for him.

Wed Jan 15 201421:53Shane Battier quiet in return for Heat
Shane Battier returned from a quad injury and hit 1-of-5 shots for three points in 19 minutes in Wednesday's loss to the Wizards.
Battier's return limited the minutes of Rashard Lewis and Michael Beasley, and Battier doesn't hold much fantasy value of his own, even when he plays better than he did tonight.

Wed Jan 15 201417:56Shane Battier back in the starting lineup
Shane Battier will return to the starting lineup against the Wizards on Wednesday.
He's missed five games due to a quad injury and he should be good to go tonight. The Heat last played on Friday, so Battier had plenty of time to get ready for tonight. It will be his first action since Jan. 2 and he remains a low-end value in deeper leagues.

Mon Jan 13 201413:21Shane Battier (quad) targeting Wed. return
Shane Battier (quad) practiced on Monday and is targeting a return on Wednesday.
The Heat value Battier's perimeter shooting and defense far more than fantasy owners do, given his season averages of 4.4 points, 1.1 triples and 0.6 blocks in 20 minutes per game. His return should knock fellow veteran Rashard Lewis out of the starting PF spot.

Fri Jan 10 201418:40Shane Battier out again vs. Brooklyn
Shane Battier (quad) will not play against the Nets on Friday.
It will be his fifth game out of the lineup tonight and the Heat will likely keep Rashard Lewis in the lineup. Battier should be considered questionable for Wednesday's game against the Wizards.

Thu Jan 9 201412:29Shane Battier (quad) out, Lewis starts at PF
Shane Battier will miss another game on Thursday due to his sore quad.
Battier's absence allows Rashard Lewis to make his fifth start at PF vs. the Knicks, a role in which he's averaging 6.5 points and 1.5 rebounds this season. Battier remains day-to-day.

Tue Jan 7 201418:37Shane Battier (quad) out again vs. Pelicans
Shane Battier (quad) will sit out again on Tuesday, giving Rashard Lewis another start at PF.
Lewis has been up-and-down for the past few games but in general he can't be trusted for more than a handful of points, 3-pointers and rebounds. Battier remains day-to-day.
