Daryl Thompson has been suspended 50 games for his second positive test for a drug of abuse.
Currently a free agent, Thompson split last season between independent ball and the Mets' Triple-A affiliate. The 28-year-old made appearances in the majors with the Reds in 2008 and 2011. He'll serve the suspension once he latches on with a team.

Reds recalled RHP Daryl Thompson from Double-A Carolina.
He'll replace the injured Matt Maloney on the active roster and give the Reds another option out of the bullpen following Wednesday's 19-inning loss to the Phillies. Thompson, who was acquired from the Nationals in 2006, hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2008 season due to shoulder problems. Still only 25 years old, he had a 4.44 ERA and 41/17 K/BB ratio over his first nine starts at the Double-A level this season.
