Sun Mar 16 201421:04Bill Bray announces retirement from baseball
Bill Bray announced his retirement from professional baseball on Sunday.
Bray indicated that he has once again torn his labrum which would require another surgery, making the decision easy for him. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he was a member of the Reds during the 2012 season. He concludes his career with a 3.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 188/88 K/BB ratio over 197 1/3 innings with the Nationals and Reds.

Sat Feb 8 201423:50Bill Bray hoping to sign with a team by May
Bill Bray wants to pitch in 2014 and hopes to sign with a team by May, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Bray was limited to just 4 1/3 innings with the Nationals' Double-A affiliate last season due to back, groin and shoulder issues. Prior to 2013 the southpaw was effective as a reliever, limiting lefties to a .218/.312/.331 line for his career. If he proves to be healthy, the 30-year-old could catch on with a team looking for left-handed bullpen help.

Sun Mar 3 201317:26Bill Bray reassigned to minor league camp
Bill Bray has been reassigned to minor league camp.
Bray was a candidate for a left-handed specialist role, but there isn't a spot for him on the Nationals' Opening Day roster. It's fair to wonder if he's still dealing with injuries at this point. Bray doesn't have a spring training opt-out in his minor league deal, so he'll be forced to start the season at Triple-A Syracuse.

Fri Jan 4 201322:32Bray has chance to be Nats' second lefty
According to William Ladson of MLB.com, now that J.P. Howell has signed with the Dodgers, Bill Bray has a chance to be the second left-hander in the Nationals bullpen.
Bray, who inked a minor league deal with the Nats earlier this offseason, was limited to just 8 2/3 innings in 2012 due to back and groin injuries. He was extremely effective as a left-handed specialist for the Reds in 2011 however, posting a 2.98 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 44/17 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings while limiting left-handed hitters to a miserable .180/.265/.292 line.

Sat Dec 29 201210:20Bill Bray candidate to replace Mike Gonzalez
MASN's Dan Kolko confirms Bill Bray is a candidate to replace Mike Gonzalez in the Nationals' bullpen.
Bray was signed to a minor league deal this offseason after being limited to just 14 appearances with the Reds in 2012 due to back and groin issues. If healthy, he should be able to secure a left-handed specialist role with Gonzalez and Tom Gorzelanny both signing with the Brewers. According to Kolko, J.P. Howell is the Nationals' top target on the free agent market.

Reds placed LHP Bill Bray on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19, with a left groin injury.
Bray apparently aggravated a groin injury originally suffered during spring training. The 28-year-old southpaw has allowed four runs over just 2 2/3 innings this season, including getting roughed up for three runs over one inning against the Cardinals last Wednesday. The timeline for his return isn't yet known, but he won't be eligible to return until the first week of May.

Mon Apr 2 201204:31Bray hammered for five runs in relief
Bill Bray was shelled for five runs in only two-thirds of an inning Sunday against the White Sox.
The damage came on four hits and a walk. It was his third appearance in four days, so perhaps it was a case of "too much too soon" for a reliever who spent most of March rehabbing from a groin ailment. With the Reds' final Cactus League game scheduled for Monday, Bray's next opportunity to right the ship will come during the regular season.
