Now here's a great story. The Athletics signed James out of the independent Northern League, where he was playing for the Kansas City T-Bones. The 28-year-old right-hander has proceeded to rattle off a 1.83 ERA over 28 relief appearances between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento this season, averaging 11.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9.
