Fri Aug 29 201416:56Edwards released by Bears on Friday
Edwards was released by the Bears on Friday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Edwards needed a huge performance in Thursday's preseason finale to have a prayer at winning a roster spot and failed to cash in, logging no receptions in the contest. It looks like the Bears will go with either Micheal Spurlock or Chris Williams as their kick returner and No. 5 receiver.
Tue Jun 3 201415:21Bears sign WR/KR Armanti Edwards
Bears signed WR/KR Armanti Edwards.
Edwards, the 89th pick in the 2010 draft, appeared in six games with the Panthers and Browns last season, catching one pass for ten yards and returning four punts for 28 yards. He has just six career grabs for 131 yards across 41 games. Edwards has never shown to be a dynamic returner. He'll compete for a spot.

Thu Apr 24 201416:58Armanti Edwards visiting Seahawks
Free agent WR/KR Armanti Edwards is working out for the Seahawks.
The No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft, Edwards was essentially out of the league last season. He was waived after four catch-less games with the Panthers, and placed on injured reserve after three weeks in Cleveland. A workout warrior who's never shown anything on the field, Edwards would be a camp body for the world-champion Seahawks.

Tue Oct 8 201314:53Panthers moving on from bust Armanti Edwards
Panthers waived WR Armanti Edwards.
Just like 2012, 2011 and 2010 before it, 2013 was not the breakout year for the No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft. Edwards will go down as one of the biggest busts of former Panthers GM Marty Hurney's comically poor drafting tenure. Edwards has just five catches in 39 career games, and has shown nothing on special teams. He's going to draw scant interest on the open market.

Tue Aug 20 201315:56Armanti Edwards' roster spot safe?
The Charlotte Observer believes Panthers WR Armanti Edwards' roster spot is safe even though he's missed over a week with a hamstring injury.
Edwards' name has been synonymous with "bust" since he was the No. 89 overall pick of the 2010 draft, but he was coming on strong in camp before going down. The Panthers must sincerely believe the light bulb has come on if they're willing to keep Edwards even though he'll likely only appear in one preseason game. Even if Edwards eventually settles in as Carolina's No. 3 receiver, he's off the fantasy radar.

Mon Aug 19 201309:06Armanti Edwards missing practice time
Panthers WR Armanti Edwards has been sidelined over a week with a hamstring injury.
We wouldn't typically blurb up a soft-tissue injury for a chronic underachiever during camp, but Edwards had been making noise before going down. Coach Ron Rivera went as far as to call Edwards his "camp MVP." Now Edwards is back on the roster bubble. He desperately needs to suit up for Thursday's regular season dress rehearsal.

Thu Aug 8 201308:52Armanti Edwards Carolina's 'camp MVP'
Coach Ron Rivera calls WR Armanti Edwards the Panthers' "training camp MVP."
Oh boy. A gifted athlete, Edwards has always lit up practice. It's once things start going full speed in games that he struggles. Although Edwards has earned consistent plaudits for his performance this summer, it's worth noting that Rivera made similar comments last year. Edwards went on to catch just five passes. We're still not sure he's guaranteed a roster spot.

Thu Aug 1 201321:47Armanti Edwards has chance to be No. 3 WR
Coach Ron Rivera said Armanti Edwards has a "real chance" to be the No. 3 receiver.
"[The] big question is him catching in traffic," Rivera said. "We'll see in the preseason games." This has been Edwards' best offseason of his four-year career, and the Charlotte Observer reported in June that he was finally "beginning to look like an NFL receiver." Edwards is competing with Ted Ginn and Domenik Hixon for No. 3 duties behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.

Tue Jun 18 201317:14Armanti Edwards likely to keep roster spot?
The Charlotte Observer believes Armanti Edwards is "beginning to look like an NFL receiver," and expects him to keep his roster spot.
Better late than never? Edwards has done absolutely nothing through his first three NFL seasons, but is apparently "running fluid routes and catching the ball in traffic." That's all good and well, but pad-less practices have always been when Edwards shines. We're highly skeptical he'll suddenly be a productive player in 2013, and don't consider his roster spot cinched up.

Thu Jun 13 201318:20Edwards most improved receiver at minicamp
Coach Ron Rivera says Armanti Edwards has been the "most improved" receiver after OTAs and minicamp.
"Probably the guy who's really improved the most during these OTAs and minicamp has been Armanti," Rivera said. "He made a couple really nice plays. His development has been really key for us as well." Edwards will have to keep it up during training camp and preseason, but it sounds like he'll keep his job.

Wed Jun 12 201315:49Panthers WR/KR Edwards likely to make team
The Charlotte Observer now considers Panthers WR/KR likely to make the team "with no problem."
The Charlotte Observer is reversing course on Edwards, who they believed was "hard to see a spot," for just three weeks ago. Edwards has been a major flop since being taken in the third round of the 2010 draft, but may finally be turning a corner after stringing together multiple impressive practices. It's an encouraging sign for a Panthers receiving corps devoid of talent, but we wont hold our breath waiting for his talent to carry over on game day.

Wed May 22 201311:00'Hard to see a spot' for WR Edwards in CAR
The Charlotta Observer thinks it's "hard to see a spot" for WR/KR Armanti Edwards on the Panthers.
The Panthers signed WRs Ted Ginn and Domenik Hixon, and both players can return kicks and punts. Edwards finally caught his first pass as a pro last season, totaling five catches for 121 yards. He's been a major flop since being taken in the third round of the 2010 draft. Edwards will almost certainly be cut this summer.

Fri Mar 22 201310:00Armanti Edwards may finally be out in CAR
The Charlotte Observer believes the signing of KR/WR Ted Ginn "could spell the end" of Armanti Edwards' time with the Panthers.
Edwards should have been released a year ago, but former GM Marty Hurney couldn't pull the trigger on one of his many draft blunders. Edwards had his "best" season in 2012, but has never been a reliable play-maker since being the No. 89 pick of the 2010 draft. He'll likely be cut loose in short order.

Wed Jan 30 201301:19Armanti Edwards triggers minor escalator
Panthers WR Armanti Edwards' 2013 base salary increased from $575,000 to $630,000 after Edwards hit escalators in his rookie deal.
Edwards caught the first five passes of his career in 2012, totaling 121 yards. He has proven to be a bust after being selected in the third round of the 2010 draft and will be on the roster bubble in Carolina this summer as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

Sat Nov 17 201212:13Armanti Edwards questionable for Week 11
Panthers WR Armanti Edwards (groin) is listed as questionable on the Week 11 injury report.
Edwards was downgraded from probable on Saturday, which doesn't bode well for his chances of playing in the Panthers' Week 11 divisional game against the Bucs. Edwards saw minimal action for most of the season, but did play 17 snaps in last week's loss to the Broncos. He has three catches for 103 yards on the season, and is well off the fantasy radar.

Sat Oct 27 201213:57Edwards could be the odd man out in Carolina
Armanti Edwards could be the odd man out in Carolina when David Gettis (hamstring, PUP) returns for Week 9.
Edwards, the former Appalachian State quarterback turned NFL receiver, is one of now former GM Marty Hurney's many high-risk mistakes. Hurney traded a 2011 second-round pick to New England, which ended up being the No. 33 pick overall, for the right to select Edwards in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Edwards has amassed a whole one catch for 12 yards in his career and has also failed in the return game. The fact that he's even stuck around this long is a bit of a surprise.

Fri Aug 3 201210:50Armanti Edwards hot early at Panthers camp
Coach Ron Rivera singled out WR/KR Armanti Edwards for having "an outstanding camp."
It looks like Edwards took the selection of fellow WR/KR Joe Adams as motivation. Still, he remains squarely on the roster bubble while battling with Louis Murphy and Seyi Ajirotutu for reps.

Tue May 1 201212:15Armanti Edwards has no history of big plays
Including returns, none of Panthers WR/PR Armanti Edwards' 39 career touches have gone for longer than 17 yards.
It's why Joe Adams' selection has surely ended Edwards' time as the Panthers' return specialist, and why the Charlotte Observer's Scott Fowler and Joseph Person both expect Edwards to lose his roster spot. Edwards is just two years removed from being the No. 89 overall pick, but has shown so little that he might have trouble latching on elsewhere if he's indeed released.
