Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Ryan Theriot has officially retired from Major League Baseball.
The 34-year-old infielder hasn't appeared in the big leagues since he was a member of the Giants during the 2012 season. He finishes his eight year career with a .281/.341/.350 career line, 17 homers and 121 stolen bases in 899 games.

Wed Mar 20 201322:11Ryan Theriot doesn't want to be a backup
Ryan Theriot said Wednesday that he's had offers from teams, but it's "not really exactly what I'm looking for playing-time-wise."
"I've had some stuff come up, no doubt," Theriot said. "It's not really exactly what I'm looking for playing-time-wise. That's where we're at right now. We'll see what happens." Theriot is fooling himself if he thinks he can get a starting job, though perhaps he could have a shot somewhere getting some starts against left-handed pitching. Obviously he's not getting what he wants at this point, though, and he's prepared to retire if nothing comes along that entices him. He has also considered becoming an agent.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Ryan Theriot is considering becoming an agent.
Theriot has struggled to attract interest this offseason after posting a weak .270/.316/.321 batting line in 384 plate appearances with the Giants in 2012. The 33-year-old infielder has yet to file his retirement papers.

Fri Feb 22 201314:11Ryan Theriot talking to Indians, Rangers
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Ryan Theriot has been talking to the Indians and Rangers.
Theriot is still holding out hope of competing for a starting job somewhere, though, and he wouldn't be able to do that in Cleveland or Texas. At this point, he should just be happy if he gets a guaranteed deal somewhere.

Sat Feb 16 201317:50Ryan Theriot unlikely to return to Giants
Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Ryan Theriot is unlikely to return to the Giants.
The veteran infielder is seeking a full-time role, which the Giants don't have available for him. While he desires the increased playing time, he will likely have to settle for a reserve role wherever he ends up.

Mon Feb 4 201316:44Report: Rangers interested in Ryan Theriot
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers are among the teams interested in free agent infielder Ryan Theriot.
Rosenthal also names the Indians as a possibility, so this isn't all that different from a report by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports last month. Theriot, 33, batted .270/.316/.321 with a .637 OPS in 384 plate appearances last season with the Giants. He figures to be used as a backup middle infielder wherever he lands.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers and Indians have expressed interest in Ryan Theriot.
Theriot has also been linked to the Phillies and Giants this offseason, but it's not yet clear whether he's received an offer. He batted .270/.316/.321 with a .637 OPS in 384 plate appearances last season and will be used as a backup middle infielder wherever he signs. His fantasy impact should continue to be minimal.

Sat Jul 7 201219:16Theriot has two hits, RBI in loss to Pirates
Ryan Theriot went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, accounting for the Giants only run in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.
On a day in which most of the Giant bats were stifled by James McDonald, Theriot came through with a pair of solid singles. He's done a nice job for the Giants over the first half of the season, hitting .280 (58-for-207) with a homer, 19 RBI and eight steals. As long as he's hitting near the top of the lineup and playing everyday, he does have some value as a middle infield option in deeper mixed leagues.

Tue Jun 19 201202:43Ryan Theriot goes 3-for-5 in win
Ryan Theriot went 3-for-5, drove in two runs and stole a base Monday against the Angels.
It was his second straight three-hit game, raising his average from .250 to .275. Theriot is a weak option as a regular second baseman at this point of his career, but the Giants seem to like what he offers. He'll remain a fixture for a few more weeks at least.

Fri May 25 201210:15Ryan Theriot to be regular at 2B
Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Ryan Theriot could be his regular second baseman going forward.
Theriot didn't start Thursday because Bochy thought he might be tired after a long flight from Arizona, where he was working out in extended spring training. He will be in the lineup Friday, and it sounds like he'll play ahead of the struggling Emmanuel Burriss most days. "We need another bat in the lineup," Bochy said. "He's a proven hitter. ... What's going to be important for us is getting production everywhere."

Sun May 20 201211:59Ryan Theriot likely to be activated Thursday
Ryan Theriot (elbow) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Thursday.
It's the first day he's eligible. Theriot is expected to battle Emmanuel Burriss for playing time upon activation. "It'll be competitive. I'll leave it at that," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "We'll go with the hot hand. Theriot has a resume and a history of hitting."

Fri May 11 201219:43Giants place Theriot on DL
Giants placed INF Ryan Theriot on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 9, with right elbow inflammation.
Theriot has already battled injuries and illness in the early part of the season, and was only hitting .179 with two RBI in his 56 at-bats while on the field. He should be back to his utility role within a couple of weeks, but shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues.

Fri Apr 20 201223:52Theriot available for Saturday's game
Ryan Theriot is expected to be available for Saturday's game.
Theriot was too sick to fly with the team to New York on Thursday and didn't make it to the ballpark in time for Friday's game. However, he should be ready to contribute off the Giants' bench for the rest of the weekend.

Fri Apr 20 201217:50Theriot not in Friday's lineup vs. Mets
Ryan Theriot is not in Friday's lineup against the Mets due to illness.
It was a bit of a surprise to see Emmanuel Burriss in the starting lineup against left-hander Jon Niese, but now we have our explanation. Theriot was too sick to make the flight Thursday, but is expected to make it to New York at some point on Friday.

Fri Apr 6 201213:03Ryan Theriot to start at 2B
Ryan Theriot will start at second base for the Giants in Friday's opener.
Emmanuel Burriss had been pegged as Freddy Sanchez's replacement, but evidently manager Bruce Bochy will go with the veteran. Theriot is a fantasy option only in NL-only leagues, and a weak one at that.
