Fri Feb 6 201517:08Vitters signed minor league contract with Rockies on Friday
Vitters signed a minor league contract with the Rockies on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Vitters both of the last two seasons primarily at Triple-A, but struggled in 2014 to the tune of a .213/.268/.339 batting line with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. There is no indication of whether or not his contract includes an invite to spring training but it could be a possibility. Either way, he will likely be organizational depth for the Rockies given the plethora of players they boast in the outfield.
Fri Aug 22 201409:45Vitters placed on DL at Triple-A Iowa with broken finger
Vitters has been placed on the DL at Triple-A Iowa with a broken finger, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
Given how little time is left in the season and how poorly Vitters is playing - he's hitting .213 in 112 games with Iowa this year - he may have played his last game as a member of the Cubs' organization. A first-round pick by the Cubs in 2007, Vitters has only played 36 games at the big-league level, hitting .121 in 2012.
Tue Sep 17 201319:21Josh Vitters converted to left fielder
The Cubs have decided to move Josh Vitters from third base to left field.
With Mike Olt and Kris Bryant in the organization, it seemed inevitable that Vitters would be moved elsewhere. He's coming off a lost season at Triple-A Iowa, where he batted .295/.380/.511 but over just 28 games due to injury. He'll compete for a roster spot next spring, but it's probably more likely that he'll make up for some lost time back at Iowa.

Thu Oct 4 201211:48Vitters, Jackson to open 2013 with AAA Iowa
Cubs president Theo Epstein said Thursday that Josh Vitters and Brett Jackson will open 2013 at Triple-A Iowa.
The Cubs are unlikely to be competitive in the National League Central next season, so they'll keep their top prospects marinating down on the farm. Vitters, a 23-year-old third baseman, batted .121/.193/.202 in his first 36 major leagues games this summer. Jackson, a 24-year-old outfielder, hit .175/.303/.342.

Fri Aug 31 201209:41Valbuena to play over Vitters
Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Luis Valbuena will be his primary third baseman down the stretch.
The Cubs don't have much to lose by throwing Josh Vitters out there regularly, but they don't want to bury the youngster. Vitters went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts Monday in his last start and is now batting .093 with 19 strikeouts over 56 plate appearances. Sveum said he'll "mix and match," while at the same time giving Vitters "some time to kick back."

Wed Aug 1 201210:23Vitters likely to be called up soon
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer indicated Tuesday that prospect third baseman Josh Vitters is likely to be called up from Triple-A Iowa in the near future.
Vitters, who turns 23 later this month, is hitting .296/.349/.496 with 15 home runs, 63 RBI and an .846 OPS in 106 games this season at the Triple-A level. There are serious questions about his plate discipline, but he should get a look as the Cubs evaluate their internal options for 2013. He might be worth a stash in NL-only formats.

Fri May 7 201012:49Cubs promote Vitters to Double-A
The Cubs have promoted prospect third baseman Josh Vitters to Double-A Tennessee.
Vitters, 20, did well with a repeat in the Florida State League, batting .291/.350/.445 with three homers and 13 RBI in 110 at-bats. Most encouraging of all, he drew eight free passes in 110 at-bats after walking just 12 times in 458 at-bats last season. The 2007 first-round pick is progressing quite nicely.
