Ramirez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, MLB.com reports.

With the postseason around the corner, Ramirez will receive the day off after starting the previous four games. Josh Harrison will fill in at third base and bat second in the order for Pittsburgh.

He was lifted for a pinch-runner after doubling to start the seventh inning. Ramirez has now hit 30 doubles or more in 10 of his 17 major league seasons. He's 2-for-10 with a dinger against Saturday starter Jason Hammel.

With Josh Harrison still in the lineup at second base, it looks like Ramirez's entry in to the batting order against left-handers will again cause Neil Walker to hit the bench. Ramirez had been dealing with a groin issue, but it was apparently minor enough for him miss only two games.

There has been no update on Ramirez's progress since sustaining a groin injury while legging out a triple in Tuesday's game. Josh Harrison and Pedro Alvarez will start at the infield corners Thursday.

Ramirez may have injured himself while running out a triple during yesterday's game, so it's not surprising to see him out of Wednesday's contest. He's still day-to-day moving forward. Josh Harrison will get the start at third base and hit second in the lineup.

He was replaced by Neil Walker and went 1-for-3 with a RBI triple before exiting. The fact that he ran for a triple at his age (37) and then felt tightness is not surprising. Ramirez should be day-to-day going forward.

Ramirez went 2-for-5 with his 17th homer Monday in Colorado.

He's slashing .259/.304/.429 with six homers and 32 RBI in 170 at-bats for the Pirates since coming over from Milwaukee. Ramirez hit a first-inning, three-run dinger Aug. 29 off Tuesday starter Chris Rusin.

He is 6-for-26 with two extra-base hits over his last eight games and will get the day game off following Wednesday's night game. Josh Harrison starts at third with Pedro Alvarez starting at first base Thursday.

After going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and RBI against his former team Saturday, Ramirez will get the day off for Sunday's matinee tilt. With the Pirates at full health in the infield at the moment, Jung-Ho Kang and Josh Harrison might be the preferred options at third base, leaving Ramirez's easiest path to at-bats at first base as part of a timeshare with Pedro Alvarez. The logjam at both corner infield spots won't make Ramirez an especially strong option in weekly formats during what's left of the season.

Ramirez has hit four home runs since Aug. 29, but he will be held out Thursday for the second time in four days, likely in an effort to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Jung-Ho Kang will man the hot corner Thursday in Ramirez's place.

The veteran third baseman is one of a multitude of regular starters sitting for the Pirates, but the rest are sitting for platoon purposes against a left-handed starter, except for resting catcher Francisco Cervelli. Ramirez is also likely getting some rest while Jung-Ho Kang occupies third.

Ramirez had drawn five consecutive starts, driving in eight runs in that span, but will get a day off Friday. Jung-Ho Kang will slide over to third base while Jordy Mercer will get the start at shortstop in his absence.

Ramirez will hit cleanup and play third base Thursday against the Brewers.

Fans from his old team cheered him Tuesday when he went deep but weren't quite so accommodating after he belted a three-run shot Wednesday. Ramirez has five hits in his last 16 at-bats including two doubles, three homers and eight RBI.

Ramirez went 1-for-4 Saturday with a three-run shot, his 13th home run of the season.

His performance hasn't improved since he was traded, and Ramirez is slashing just .248/.294/.358 with two home runs in 29 games with the Pirates, although he does have 20 RBI. Don't expect a turnaround from the 37-year-old in September.
