OF Junior Lake was recalled Wednesday from Triple-A Buffalo after RF Jose Bautista (sprained left knee) was put on the 15-day disabled list. Lake is batting .238/.323/.371 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 74 games at Buffalo. In 19 games with Toronto, he is batting .206/.289/.382 with one homer and two RBIs.

Lake was optioned back to Triple-A on Monday, Brittany Ghiroli of Orioles.com reports.

Lake spent only three days with the big league club, and he'll return to Norfolk, where he'll see more regular playing time. In 73 combined Triple-A games for the Cubs and Orioles' organizations this season, Lake is slashing .312/.405/.449.

Lake was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

In a move that was first reported Thursday evening, the Orioles have officially recalled Lake, as well as right-hander Jorge Rondon from Norfolk. Lake has struggled in 24 combined games for the Cubs and O's this season, hitting just .208 with 26 strikeouts in 72 at-bats. He'll simply provide depth at the corner outfield spots over the final month of the season.

Lake came over to the Orioles at the trade deadline and made just three starts since the beginning of August. He went 1-for-14 with six strikeouts for the Orioles before being sent down. Henry Urrutia was recalled in a corresponding roster move Saturday.

The recently acquired Lake will join the Orioles' 25-man roster after the club designated Travis Snider for assignment in a corresponding move. Lake will provide corner outfield depth for the Orioles in place of the under-performing Snider. There were rumblings early Friday that Lake could be joining the Orioles for their series opener in Anaheim, but it's unclear at this point whether he'll immediately be plugged into the lineup.

Lake was traded from the Cubs to the Orioles on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Lake will wind up as organizational depth in the minors with the Orioles, much like he was for the Cubs. His biggest drawback is his extremely high strikeout rate, but he had major league experience and could be a future option if he can limit them.

Lake was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.

Lake's run with the Cubs started much better than it ended. Sitting at .261 after June 5, he collected just one hit in his next 12 at-bats before sitting out the final two game prior to his demotion. He'll return to Triple-A Iowa, while the Cubs promoted relief pitcher Brian Schlitter to take his place on the 25-man roster.

Lake is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Lake has made five straight starts in right field, going 5-for-19 with two doubles and a home run over that span. He'll sit in favor of the recently-activated Chris Denorfia, who will continue to compete with him for reps until Jorge Soler (ankle) is activated. Lake may offer a bit more power potential than Denorfia, but the latter brings much more discipline to the plate.

Lake went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer and two strikeouts out of the cleanup spot Wednesday in Miami.

The long ball broke up Dan Haren's shutout bid, but unfortunately, the Cubs couldn't muster much more offense than that. Lake has now hit cleanup for the Cubs twice -- an odd choice for a team that has Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant in the lineup every day. The 25-year-old has hit no homers in the 22 games he's spent with Triple-A Iowa this season.

Lake went 1-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Lake started Wednesday for just the second time since last being recalled May 19, and he responded with his second double and second steal on the season. While his playing time has been limited, he could see some extra action in the short term if Chris Coghlan's batting average continues to hover around The Mendoza Line.

Lake played 108 games at the major league level last season, but with an influx of talent in the outfield, he may have trouble finding consistent playing time in 2015.
