Sat Jul 23 201109:55Thomas Diamond released
Twins released RHP Thomas Diamond.
Diamond was inked to a minor league deal last month after being cut loose by the Cubs. He's posted an awful 8.52 ERA in Triple-A this season but has struck out over a batter per inning. The 28-year-old should be able to land somewhere as organizational depth.

Sun Aug 8 201018:17Diamond struggles in second big league outing
Thomas Diamond struggled in his second big league outing today, giving up five runs in just three innings of work against the Reds to take a loss.
It took only two starts, but we've already run the full gamut with Diamond. Last time out he struck out 10 batters and posted a quality start. Today hitters were laying off the right pitches and Diamond struggled with his control by walking three and hitting a batter. Expect more inconsistency from the rookie, and he's not worth using with the Cardinals due up next.
Tue Aug 3 201023:30SP Diamond strikes out 10 in big league debut
Thomas Diamond struck out 10 batters in his major league debut, allowing three runs over six innings against the Brewers on Tuesday.
It was certainly an intriguing indoctrination into the major leagues. Diamond, a former top pitching prospect, allowed three walks and seven hits and exited with the Cubs down 3-1. Still, 10 strikeouts can't be ignored. The former 2004 first-round pick of the Rangers took Ted Lilly's place in the starting rotation and should be picked up in all NL-only leagues immediately.
Mon Aug 2 201017:42Cubs call up Thomas Diamond
Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Thomas Diamond from Triple-A Iowa.
As expected, Diamond will take Ted Lilly's place in the starting rotation against the Brewers on Tuesday. The former 2004 first-round pick of the Rangers is 5-4 with a 3.16 ERA with Triple-A Iowa this season, averaging 8.6 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9. It's a just reward for a real turnaround season, but NL-only owners should wait and see.

Thomas Diamond will be promoted to start Tuesday against the Brewers.
Diamond, a former top pitching prospect, was designated for assignment twice last season. He's bounced back to go 5-4 with a 3.16 ERA at Triple-A Iowa. The 2004 first-round pick of Texas will be making his major league debut.
