As Major League Baseball cautiously tiptoes closer toward beginning its delayed 2020 season, several teams welcomed back players who might have been exposed to the coronavirus, and the San Francisco Giants resumed workouts Wednesday after finally receiving the results of COVID-19 tests administered over the weekend.The San Diego Padres, however, revealed that newly acquired infielder Jorge Mateo’s intake test for coronavirus came back positive and he’s experienced symptoms. Noesi was designated for assignment Thursday.

Noesi has struggled mightily for the White Sox this season, posting an ugly 6.89 ERA across 32.2 innings. He'll be subject to waivers and will likely land at Triple-A Charlotte if he passes through unclaimed. In a corresponding move, the Sox called up Scott Carroll to take his spot on the roster.

Noesi allowed five runs on five hits in seven innings against the Jays on Monday to take his fourth loss of the season.

Forced into action for his first start since May 25, Noesi struggled against the first 10 batters he faced. He allowed all five runs and two home runs in his first 1.1 innings of work, but he settled down to throw 5.2 scoreless for the rest of the outing. It is unclear if he will get another spin in the rotation during the White Sox's long roadtrip, but he proved Monday that he still has the stamina to go several innings.

Noesi will start Monday against the Blue Jays, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Carlos Rodon was supposed to start Monday, but the White Sox want to limit the rookie's innings. Noesi struggled in a starting role earlier this season, but he could make a few spins in the rotation if he can handle the Blue Jays. Scott Carroll may be next in line to start if Noesi stumbles.

Noesi is no longer in the White Sox's rotation after the team promoted Carlos Rodon from the bullpen, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

It was only a matter of time before Rodon replaced Noesi in the rotation. It sounds like Noesi will still make a few spot starts throughout the season to keep Rodon fresh. Noesi will also probably be the first guy up if a starter gets hurt or if the club decides John Danks needs to spend some time in the 'pen.

Noesi (back) retired the only batter he faced as a reliever in the White Sox's loss to the Brewers on Monday. However, the Chicago Tribune reports manager Robin Ventura has still not committed to Noesi's role moving forward.

The thought in Chicago is that Noesi might be bumped from the rotation after Carlos Rodon proved his starting stuff against the Reds over the weekend. However, the team's bullpen was also a bit taxed heading into this Milwaukee series after Noesi had an injury-shortened start against the Reds, and Rodon is unavailable out of the 'pen for the next few days. Still, if the transition from Noesi to Rodon does not occur this week, it should not be far away.

Noesi (back) is feeling better and has been told to be ready out of the bullpen, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

After leaving Saturday's start with a lower-back contusion, Noesi's return to the bullpen just two days later should be a positive sign. With Carlos Rodon looking more like the team's fifth starter, Noesi could settle in as a long reliever in the future.

Manager Robin Ventura said prior to Sunday's game against the Reds that Noesi (back) could be used in a relief capacity, J.J. Stankevitz of CSN Chicago reports.

Noesi was forced out of Saturday's start in the second inning due to a lower-back contusion, but Ventura's comments seem to indicate the issue isn't a serious one. Even if Noesi isn't used out of the bullpen Sunday, it's quite possible that he'll be used as the White Sox's long man in relief in the games to come. The right-hander has been tagged for a 6.06 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through his first four starts and appears to be an inferior rotation option to rookie Carlos Rodon, who thrived while making his first MLB start in the other half of Saturday's doubleheader, striking out eight batters over six innings.

Noesi left in the second inning of Saturday afternoon's game with a lower-back contusion and is considered day-to-day, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.

He gave up three hits and walked two in just 1.2 innings but somehow none of the runners he allowed came around to score. Noesi's hold on a rotation spot is pretty flimsy at this point, so if Carlos Rodon pitches well in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, Noesi could be out of Chicago's rotation.

Noesi is now slated to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds with Friday's game postponed due to rain, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Noesi and Johnny Cueto, who were scheduled to oppose each other Friday night, will both simply move back to Saturday's matinee. Carlos Rodon and Jason Marquis will follow in the nightcap.

Noesi took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on five hits and two walks over just 4.1 innings, striking out two.

He's now lost all three of his starts on the season, with an ugly 6.75 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5.52 BB/9 ratio. Noesi hasn't gotten out of the sixth inning yet, and if he can't find the plate a little more often, Carlos Rodon could steal away his spot in the rotation.

Noesi will have his turn in the rotation skipped following Monday's postponement against the Orioles, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Monday's game was called on account of safety concerns due to a crowd of rioters located near Camden Yards. Assuming Tuesday's game is able to be played, the White Sox will stick with their original configuration heading into the week, with Jeff Samardzija slated to take the hill. Noesi's next turn might not come until the weekend series against the Twins.

Noesi will not make his regularly scheduled start Monday as the game has been postponed.

It's unclear how the White Sox will deal with their rotation after the postponement, but with Jeff Smardzija lined up to start Tuesday and Chris Sale scheduled for Wednesday, it's possible Noesi will have his turn in the rotation skipped.

Noesi gave up two home runs in 5.2 innings Tuesday, earning a loss to the Indians after allowing four earned runs and striking out just five batters.

In his first start of the season April 10, Noesi walked six batters but still only gave up two earned runs. His next start is scheduled to be Sunday versus the Royals.

Noesi fanned six and walked six while allowing two runs on four hits over 4.2 innings pitched in a losing effort Friday against the Twins.

Currently obstructing top prospect Carlos Rodon, Noesi may not be int he No. 5 starter spot for the White Sox very long. Fortunately for the White Sox, two off-days on the schedule will allow them to skip Noesi until at least April 21 (a potential home matchup with Cleveland).

Noesi retired all six batters he faced in a Cactus League game against the Mariners on Saturday.

The Mariners did not assemble their most formidable lineup, but the 28-pitch performance was a solid exhibition debut for Noesi. Noesi should have the team's fifth starter job to start the regular season unless Carlos Rodon has a magical spring at the club brass opts to have him start the year in the rotation. If that scenario plays out, then Noesi would probably serve in a long-relief/swing role.

Noesi enters White Sox camp expected to win the fifth starter role, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Noesi held onto a rotation spot for the rest of the 2014 season after the White Sox picked him up in late-April off waivers, but his job security was linked to the team's lack of starting pitching depth. That lack of depth is still there, with few other pitchers coming to camp eligible for that rotation spot. Carlos Rodon should get a look, but it appears the preference would be for him to pitch in the minors or bullpen to start the year. Noesi was only slightly below average in his 27 starts for the Sox last year, but his flyball tendencies will be perpetually dangerous in the home run friendly U.S. Cellular Field.

Noesi agreed to a one-year, $1.95 million contract with the White Sox on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

Noesi spent most of 2014 in the White Sox's rotation, making a total of 33 appearances and 27 starts to the tune of a 4.75 ERA and 1.37. He really struggled to keep the ball in the park (a common theme at U.S. Cellular Field), allowing 28 home runs in 172.1 innings while also walking 56 batters over the same span. He will likely challenge for one of the final rotation spots in 2015, but will need to lower both the home run and walk rate to be more effective in 2015.
