Tue Dec 13 201117:28Lakers' Caracter to have knee surgery
Lakers power forward Derrick Caracter tore cartilage in his left knee on Tuesday and is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
There's no timetable on his return, but the pending signing of Josh McRoberts just became a lot more meaningful. The Lakers are already reeling from the loss of Lamar Odom to Dallas, and are very thin at power forward.

Tue Aug 30 201110:41Derrick Caracter on customized weight program
Derrick Caracter is on a customized weight plan in order to keep his weight down during the offseason.
This is good news considering that Caracter had a weight clause in his contract that guaranteed his money if he checked in at 275 lbs prior to September 10th, and he did exactly that. It's good to see that he's making a commitment to keeping his weight in check, and he could prove to be a nice piece for the Lakers off the bench moving forward.

Mon Apr 25 201114:48Report: Caracter waitress was not pregnant
The waitress that Derrick Caracter was arrested for "grabbing and pulling" is apparently not pregnant, and was a cashier as opposed to a waitress, based on a new report released by New Orleans police.
While this probably won't help Caracter much from a legal standpoint, it does make the story seem slightly less harsh in the headlines. Either way, he's been charged with battery, resisting arrest and public intoxication, and these are the kind of incidents that can end careers when the player in question isn't a superstar. And clearly, Caracter's future is up in the air.

Mon Apr 25 201112:09Caracter was "grabbing and pulling" waitress
Updating a previous item, Derrick Caracter's arrest was for "grabbing and pulling" a pregnant waitress at IHOP in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Now that the details have been released, it looks even worse for the Lakers' rookie. He was also reportedly acting drunk and disorderly prior to his detainment, and it should be interesting to see how the league handles such a serious allegation once they have a chance to review the case.

Mon Apr 25 201109:17Derrick Caracter arrested Sunday for battery
Forward Derrick Caracter was arrested for assault after an alleged altercation near the team hotel early Sunday morning.
Caracter has hardly seen the court this season for the Lakers after bouncing between the big club and the NBADL, and this allegation certainly won't help him ascertain any more minutes in the rotation.

Tue Apr 5 201113:31Caracter brought back from NBADL
Lakers recalled Derrick Caracter from the Bakersfield Jam of the NBADL.
We don't think this is related to the knee tweaks of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. It's just a chance for Caracter to get back in the majors and experience a playoff run.

Derrick Caracter (ankle) returned to action on Friday, playing two minutes with just one assist to his credit.
He goes back to his role at the end of the bench, and if he could handle any NBA minutes right now he'd surely get them with the Lakers wanting to protect their froncourt from playing too much.
Thu Dec 9 201015:22Caracter (ankle) expects to play Friday
Derrick Caracter said after Wednesday's game that his ankle is "fine" and he will be able to play on Friday.
L.A.'s frontcourt is so thin that both Ron Artest and Matt Barnes saw extended time at power forward vs. the Clippers -- to his credit, Artest did a fine job defending Blake Griffin.

Thu Dec 9 201010:44Caracter listed as day-to-day
Derrick Caracter (ankle) is officially listed as day-to-day.
The Lakers' lack of depth up front keeps getting more and more glaring. Pau Gasol is averaging a career-high 39 minutes while Lamar Odom is at 35. Andrew Bynum (knee) can't get back soon enough for coach Phil Jackson.
