The former NBA big man played in Italy and China last season. He was reportedly set to join a team in Turkey, but instead he'll join the reigning Latvian champs. He drew passing interest from the Knicks this summer but his NBA career may well be over.

The Knicks were reportedly "interested" in Lawal in June, but not interested enough to give him a guaranteed contract. He played two minutes in one game for the Suns in 2010-11, and we may never see him again in the NBA.

The Knicks will reportedly work him out after he finishes his season abroad in the Italian league with Virtus Roma. Lawal tore his ACL back in 2011, and he's been fighting to return to the NBA since. Now 24 years old, Lawal has three workouts confirmed: Orlando, Indiana and Toronto. Lawal is averaging 13.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in Europe.

Lawal is coming off of reconstructive knee surgery, but it's clearly not a concern as he was able to pass a physical and sign a deal overseas. It will be interesting to see if the Suns give him a shot to crack the rotation this season, as he's one player that the team got absolutely nothing from in 2010-11.

Suns forward Gani Lawal (knee surgery) is now able to jump and perform limited basketball activities.
"My shot's getting a lot better," Lawal said. "I'm working on that 15-footer, especially with the pick-and-roll with Steve (Nash). That'll set me up for going to the cup." He says he's adding strength and explosion to his game, but the selection of rookie Markieff Morris indicates that Phoenix isn't sold on Lawal.

He's pretty far down the depth chart, although he should make the team's final roster, where he'll see scrap minutes after Earl Clark gets his run each night. Lawal was taken in the second round with the 46th overall pick.
