Wed Mar 28 201211:23Indians release INF Cristian Guzman
Indians released INF Cristian Guzman.
Guzman was never a realistic consideration to make the team and a recent hamstring injury pretty much sealed it. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer hears that the Phillies could have interest, as they are known to be in the market for infield depth.

Fri Mar 4 201119:37Cristian Guzman to sit out first half
Free agent infielder Cristian Guzman plans to sit out the first half due to family issues.
Guzman's agent, Stanley King, added that if the issues weren't resolved in a timely fashion, his client wouldn't play at all this season. Guzman, 32, has received sparse interest on the open market after producing a .266/.311/.337 batting line over 365 at-bats for the Nationals and Rangers last season. King did say that his client was offered a job by two NL teams this spring, but Guzman decided a couple days ago that he didn't want to play yet.

Wed Sep 1 201016:10Rangers activate Guzman from disabled list
Rangers activated INF Cristian Guzman from the 15-day disabled list.
Guzman will serve as middle infield depth for the Rangers down the stretch. He went 4-for-13 with three RBI in four Double-A rehab games.
Sun Aug 22 201014:54Guzman takes part in running drills
Cristian Guzman (quad) was able to take part in running drills Saturday.
Rangers manager Ron Washington will wait to see how Guzman progresses before determining whether the infielder will be able to return from the DL when eligible on August 29. "He started running yesterday, so we'll just see how he progresses and take it from there," Washington said. "It's hard for me to say, because I don't know what his progress is going to be." The manager added that a rehab assignment for Guzman is likely.

Sat Aug 14 201019:13Chirstian Guzman (quadriceps) placed on DL
Rangers placed 2B Christian Guzman on the 15-day disabled list with sore quadriceps.
Once he returns, rosters will have expanded and there will be plenty of options even if Ian Kinsler is not quite ready. It's hard to imagine any fantasy relevance here.
Sat Aug 14 201018:58Chirstian Guzman (quadriceps) to the DL
Evan Grant is reporting that Christian Guzman will be placed on the 15-day disabled for his sore quadriceps.
Rangers fans will not have to suffer through Guzman's limp at-bats much this year, it seems. In two weeks, Ian Kinsler may be ready to return and render him irrelevant. Guzman is a dropper in all fantasy leagues.

Sat Aug 14 201018:32Rangers' 2B Guzman misses second straight
Christian Guzman missed his second straight game on Saturday due to a tight quadriceps muscle.
Guzman has not taken to his new team and is already scheduling sessions with the hitting coach to 'break his swing down.' Since he has no power, and Ian Kinsler coming to take his job at some point, a nagging injury to his legs makes him droppable in most leagues.

Sat Aug 14 201011:27Guzman expected back in lineup Saturday
Cristian Guzman is likely to be back in the lineup Saturday after not starting Friday's contest.
He did pinch-run and later struck out Friday, lowering his average with the Rangers to .088. Ian Kinsler looks to be a couple weeks away still, so Texas is hoping Guzman can pick it up at the plate in the meantime.

Sat Jul 31 201015:22Rangers officially acquire Guzman from Nats
Rangers acquired infielder Cristian Guzman and cash from the Nationals for RHP Ryan Tatusko and RHP Tanner Roark.
A solid deal for the Rangers, who pick up much-needed infield depth at a minimal cost. Guzman had 10-and-5 rights but green-lighted the trade. He does have fantasy value over the next few weeks, because he's expected to start at second baseman while Ian Kinsler is on the disabled list. Guzman hit .282/.327/.361 in 89 games for the Nationals.
Fri Jul 30 201015:16Report: Rangers acquire Guzman from Nats
The Rangers have acquired Cristian Guzman from the Nationals for prospects, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
The Nationals definitely wanted to shed either Guzman or Adam Kennedy before the deadline. They're probably picking up the approx. $3 million that Guzman was still owed in order to make this happen. Guzman can fill in at second base for now and then slide into a utility role once Ian Kinsler returns. The Nats will go with Kennedy at second and Ian Desmond at short for the rest of the year.

Tue Jul 27 201014:18Phils, Rangers 'have some interest' in Guzman
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Phillies and Rangers "have some interest" in Nationals infielder Cristian Guzman.
Guzman has hit .336/.368/.430 in 107 at-bats against left-handers this year and would make for a fine addition to any contending team's bench. But the Nats may have to eat some of the $3 million remaining on his contract. Guzman has played second base, shortstop and right field this season.

Wed Jul 21 201022:54Guzman goes yard off Arroyo
Cristian Guzman went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer to lead the Nationals past the Reds on Wednesday night.
If the Nats are showcasing Guzman for a trade, tonight was a success. It's just Guzman's second homer of the year and he no longer is a threat on the basepaths. His professional bat and defense defense can help a contender but not your fantasy team.
Wed Jul 7 201012:55Nats fielding calls on Guzman and Kennedy
A source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that the Nationals have received some inquiries regarding the availability of infielders Cristian Guzman and Adam Kennedy, however they have made little progress in the way of a deal.
The Nationals have moved back to an infield rotation in recent days, possibly in an effort to showcase Guzman and Kennedy for a potential trade. Morosi doesn't reveal any of the teams that Nationals have spoken with, but the Phillies and Rockies -- both hit by injuries in their respective infields -- are reasonable fits for either player.

Sat Jul 3 201013:32Guzman no longer everyday second baseman
The Nationals are going back to their middle infield rotation, which means Cristian Guzman is no longer the everyday second baseman.
Guzman had started the last four contests at second. He'll now have to share time with Adam Kennedy, Ian Desmond and Alberto Gonzalez. Guzman hasn't performed poorly at the plate this year (.293 average), but the Nats have a lot of mouths to feed and they could be wanting to showcase Kennedy for a possible trade.
