Dunn announced his retirement from baseball following the Athletics' season-ending loss in Tuesday's American League Wild Card game, ESPN.com reports.
Dunn never got in the game Tuesday in his first taste of the postseason in his 14-year career, but the 34-year-old is content to pack it in after a successful run with the Reds, Nationals, Diamondbacks, White Sox and Athletics. Though his time in the majors was often marred by a prodigious strikeout rate, his ability to draw walks (.364 career OBP) and hit for power (462 home runs) made his in asset in the middle of the order. So long, Big Donkey.
Tue Sep 30 201415:02Dunn not in lineup for Tuesday's AL Wild Card game
Dunn is not in the lineup for Tuesday's AL Wild Card game, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Dunn has finally reached the postseason in his 14th major league season, but he'll find himself on the bench for the team's win-or-go-home matchup against Kansas City. While a right-hander in James Shields is toeing the rubber for the Royals, Dunn is just 7-for-35 with 16 strikeouts in his career against Shields. The 34-year-old Dunn should see at least one at-bat off the bench.
Sat Sep 27 201419:21Adam Dunn: Late Addition Saturday
Dunn was added to the lineup as the DH for Saturday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Dunn was not in the original lineup for the A's, but the Rangers scratched lefty Derek Holland (head) and are now starting righty Scott Baker, so A's manager switched from a righty-heavy lineup to a lefty-heavy one. Dunn will hit second and replace Derek Norris, who was originally slated to be the DH.
Fri Sep 26 201415:50Dunn will bat second Friday against Rangers
Dunn will bat second Friday against the Rangers.
It's a rather peculiar lineup choice by manager Bob Melvin, especially considering Dunn is 0-for-8 in his career against Friday's starter Nick Tepesch. However, the likes of Sam Fuld and Josh Reddick have failed to provide much spark from the two-hole in recent days, so Melvin will get creative and move Dunn up to the No. 2 spot, where he's logged just one at-bat since 2008.
Wed Sep 24 201413:03Dunn out of lineup Wednesday against Angels
Dunn is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels.
Dunn will sit with the left-handed Hector Santiago on the mound for the Angels. He has struggled to match his power numbers from his time in Chicago, hitting just two home runs in 51 at bats, or a rate of just over 25 at-bats per home run with the A's compared to an 18.15 AB/HR rate with the White Sox.
Tue Sep 23 201416:45Dunn out of lineup Tuesday against Angels
Dunn is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Angels are trotting out three straight lefties against Oakland, so Dunn may not make a start during the series. He did, however, log two at-bats off the bench Monday, and manager Bob Melvin likely won't hesitate to bring Dunn in again Tuesday once starter Wade LeBlanc is forced from the game.
Wed Sep 17 201417:35Dunn out of lineup Wednesday against Rangers
Dunn is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rangers.
Dunn will bow out of the lineup for the first time in three games with a lefty on the mound for the Rangers. Derek Norris serves as the Athletics' designated hitter in Dunn's pace.
Fri Sep 12 201417:51Dunn out of lineup Friday against Mariners
Dunn is out of the lineup Friday against the Mariners, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Nothing to see here, as the M's are trotting out a lefty in James Paxton and Dunn is just 9-for-55 (.164 average) against lefties this season. His exposure to southpaws will remain very limited over the remainder of the season.
Thu Sep 11 201411:27Dunn out of lineup Thursday against White Sox
Dunn is out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Dunn will sit for the finale against his former team, after going 2-for-8 in two starts earlier in the series. It comes as no surprise given lefty Chris Sale is toeing the rubber for Chicago, as Dunn has started almost exclusively against right-handers since joining Oakland.
Sun Sep 7 201414:11Dunn out of lineup Sunday against Astros
Dunn is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.
Dunn will take a seat Sunday with the left-handed Dallas Keuchel on the mound, joining a group of lefties. Derek Norris will start as the designated hitter Sunday in his place.
Sat Sep 6 201401:54Dunn (.227/.346/.449) 1-3 with one RBI against Astros on Friday ...
Dunn (.227/.346/.449) went 1-for-3 with one RBI against the Astros on Friday night.
It was only a few days ago that Dunn was traded to the Athletics, but he's done a good job contributing with the bat. Dunn gives the Athletics a great on-base guy, while obviously keeping his power in the mix. Look for Dunn to see most of the DH at-bats here on out.
Tue Sep 2 201416:15Dunn out of lineup Tuesday against Mariners
Dunn is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Mariners.
Dunn made a nice first impression on the A's faithful Monday, going 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in his first game with the club, but he'll head to the bench Tuesday with lefty James Paxton on the hill for Seattle. The 34-year-old is batting just .154/.274/.288 against left-handed pitching this season, but given the A's offensive struggles of late, it seems likely manager Bob Melvin will find a way to play him regularly against right-handers.
Mon Sep 1 201419:10Dunn 2-3 with two-run homer Monday against Mariners
Dunn went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer Monday against the Mariners.
Dunn made quite a first impressive with his new team Monday. Batting average is always a problem for Dunn, but he is still a big power hitter even at this stage of his career. Being traded to a team with a chance to win a championship might lead to a rejuvenated Dunn and a big final month of the season.
Sun Aug 31 201415:46Adam Dunn: Plans to Retire
Dunn said he plans to retire after the 2014 season, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.
In waiving his no-trade clause to join the Athletics on Sunday, Dunn will attempt to conclude his career with a World Series ring, which has eluded him in his 14 seasons in the big leagues. While Dunn could have a change of heart with regards to retirement based on how his season ultimately ends, those who own the slugger in keeper leagues may want to prepare to cut ties with him for 2015.
Sun Aug 31 201411:46Adam Dunn: Dealt to Athletics
Dunn was traded to the Athletics on Sunday in exchange for minor league pitcher Nolan Sanburn.
In acquiring Dunn on the final day of the waiver trade deadline, the slugger will be eligible for the Athletics' postseason roster. The 34-year-old Dunn has once again delivered his customary low-batting average, high-power output this season, but it's his on-base skills that might prove most beneficial to the Athletics. He'll likely be a mainstay in the lineup at DH against right-handed pitching for the season's final month.

Dunn is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Doug Padilla of ESPNChicago.com reports.
Dunn will sit out the nightcap as Jose Abreu serves as the designated hitter and Paul Konerko mans first against lefty Kyle Ryan. The 34-year-old Dunn hit a two-run homer in Game 1, his 20th of the year, and is now just three shy of tying Jose Canseco on the all-time home run leader board.
Sun Aug 24 201410:46Dunn not in lineup Sunday against Yankees
Dunn is not in the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The Yankees will bring lefty Chris Capuano to the mound Sunday, with manager Robin Ventura countering with a right-handed heavy lineup. As a result, Dunn heads to the bench while Paul Konerko joins the lineup at DH.
Sun Aug 17 201410:37Dunn said there "really good chance" that he retires after 2014 ...
Dunn said there is a "really good chance" that he retires after the 2014 season, but he has not come to a decision yet, the White Sox's official site reports.
Dunn is nearing the end of his age-34 season, and he likely knows the offseason market will be limited for a mid-30s DH with waning power. His .351 OBP is his best since joining the White Sox prior to the 2011 season, but he also appears to be on pace for fewer than 30 home runs for only the third time in his 14-year career.
Wed Aug 13 201403:18Dunn 1-3 at plate with two RBI, while slugging 18th home run of ...
Dunn went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, while slugging his 18th home run of the year Tuesday.
Its been another feast or famine type of year for Dunn, as he has 18 home runs, 46 RBI an a .779 OPS on the season, but also has 118 strikeouts and a paltry .221 batting average in 326 at-bats.
Sat Aug 9 201417:33Dunn out of lineup Saturday against Mariners
Dunn is out of the lineup Saturday against the Mariners.
Dunn will sit Saturday with the left-handed James Paxton on the mound. Paul Konerko will man first base and bat sixth while Jose Abreu will take a day off from the field and DH.
