It was thought to be only a matter of time before he joined the Mavericks, but O'Neal said Monday that he has not been able to get physically prepared for the NBA. While he isn't completely giving up on playing basketball this season, O'Neal acknowledged that he may not play again. If he does end up playing, it will likely be in a limited role for the Mavs.

O'Neal will not be attending the Warriors' training camp, CSN Bay Area reports.

Mon Jul 14 201413:21UFA Jermaine O'Neal contemplating retirement
Unrestricted free agent Jermaine O'Neal is contemplating retirement after 18-years in the league.
The Warriors are remaining in touch with O'Neal in case he decides to suit up for his 19th NBA season. O'Neal could sign a one-year deal with the Warriors for the veteran's minimum, but this would be a situation in which he offers much more to the Warriors organization than a fantasy squad. O'Neal averaged 7.9 points, and 5.5 rebounds with the Dubs last season, missing 28 games due to injury.

Sun May 4 201422:19Jermaine O'Neal undecided on retirement
Jermaine O'Neal hasn't decided whether to retire this summer after 18 seasons in the NBA.
J.O. is only 35 years old but he was drafted straight out of high school in 1996 and has taken a beating throughout the course of his impressive career, which includes six straight All-Star appearances from 2002-2007. His defense, rebounding, pick-setting and leadership were essential for the Warriors all season, particularly with Andrew Bogut injured in the playoffs, and if he does retire his veteran presence will be sorely missed.

Sat May 3 201413:13Jermaine O'Neal (knee) plans to play Saturday
Jermaine O'Neal confirmed that he plans to have a pain-killing shot before playing in Game 7 vs. the Clippers on Saturday.
The Warriors will not have Andrew Bogut (ribs) or Festus Ezeli (knee), so J.O.'s availability is crucial even if he only logs around 15 minutes. The Warriors vs. Clippers will play in the third and final Game 7 in a historic Saturday of NBA action, which is followed by two more decisive Game 7s on Sunday.

Sat May 3 201412:13Jermaine O'Neal vows to play in Game 7
Jermaine O'Neal (knee) suggested that Glen Davis intentionally tried to "dive toward [O'Neal's] legs" during Game 6, leading to a bruised right kneecap for J.O.
The Warriors' veteran center intends to play around 15 minutes in Game 7 and said that nothing will keep him off the court "short of God coming back [or] the rapture." He's averaging 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 blocks in under 14 minutes per game during the postseason, giving Golden State some much-needed minutes at center with Andrew Bogut (ribs) watching from the sidelines.

Fri May 2 201420:42O'Neal has bone bruise on knee, will play Sat
Jermaine O'Neal reportedly suffered a bone bruise on his right kneecap in Thursday's game, but experienced no ligament damage and will play in Game 7 on Saturday against the Clippers.
O'Neal was giving vintage quotes in the locker room following Thursday's win, calling out Big Baby and letting reporters know in no uncertain terms that he intends to play and exact some revenge. He added to our own Aaron Bruski that he's looking to play about 15 minutes, and given the Warriors' depth issues down low that's going to be very important.

Fri May 2 201402:41Jermaine O'Neal (knee) will have an MRI
Jermaine O'Neal (knee) will have an MRI on his knee on Friday.
He said after the game that he is hopeful to play in Game 7 on Saturday and he doesn't think he tore his ACL or MCL. "Short of God returning for the Rapture, I'm going to play on Saturday," O'Neal said. His knee went backwards and not sideways, so there's a good chance he didn't tear either of those aforementioned ligaments. Still, the MRI will go a long way in determining his status for Saturday.

Thu May 1 201423:30Jermaine O'Neal (knee) goes to locker room
Jermaine O'Neal went to the locker room in the first half of Thursday's game due to a knee injury.
His knee buckled and he walked back to the locker room very gingerly. His knee was hyperextended and chances are the 35-year-old big man is done for the night. If O'Neal is out, Draymond Green and Marreese Speights should get some more run.

Fri Apr 25 201415:01Warriors could make change to starting lineup
Coach Mark Jackson said on Friday he could be making a change to his starting lineup for Game 4 vs. the Clippers on Sunday.
"We've got to find a way to provide some resistance," Jackson said. He added the change won't be to the perimeter. The most likely player to be put into the second unit figures to be Jermaine O'Neal, who played just 16 minutes on Thursday. Draymond Green was superb with a double-double and four blocks in 33 minutes, so maybe he slides into the starting lineup. Green will likely see minutes around 30 regardless while O'Neal figures to be in the teens no matter where he gets his minutes.

Tue Apr 22 201409:45Jermaine O'Neal gets technical w/ Doc Rivers
Jermaine O'Neal received a double technical with Doc Rivers after their verbal altercation during Monday's loss to the Clippers.
The verbal sparring happened during the second quarter of the Clippers' Game 2 blowout of the Warriors on Monday and was essentially limited to O'Neal and Rivers jawing at each other before receiving matching technical fouls. "It's very intense right now," O'Neal said. "Everyone wants to win. Everybody is looking for that blood. This league is about trying to smell what the weakness is. I don't care if it's the scorekeeper - there are going to be scenarios where you are trying to find an edge and keep yourself going." There is no love lost between this two teams, but let's hope O'Neal limits his frustrations to the court for the scorekeeper's sake.

Thu Apr 17 201417:49Warriors still debating on starting center
Coach Mark Jackson said he's still debating whether to start Jermaine O'Neal or Draymond Green for Game 1 vs. the Clippers on Saturday.
Both players are likely going to see a ton of minutes next to David Lee, but Jackson just needs to figure out how he's going to get production out of his second unit. Green has really picked up his skills on offense, so he might be better suited off the bench and turn in a higher usage rate there.

Wed Apr 16 201414:11Jermaine O'Neal out Wednesday for rest
Jermaine O'Neal will rest on Wednesday.
Marreese Speights and Hilton Armstrong will man the frontcourt for the Warriors, whose frontcourt is extremely short-handed without O'Neal, David Lee (rest), Draymond Green (rest) and Andrew Bogut (ribs).

Mon Apr 14 201421:03Jermaine O'Neal will start for Bogut on Mon.
Jermaine O'Neal will start in place of Andrew Bogut (ribs) on Monday.
He's likely looking at several starts with Bogut suffering a cracked rib. The Warriors have managed his minutes throughout the year and haven't been fans of playing him in back-to-back sets, but they kind of have to now with their playoff seed at stake. He's a low-end option in standard leagues.

Mon Apr 14 201400:11Jermaine O'Neal logs 20 minutes in return
Jermaine O'Neal (rest) was back in action vs. the Trail Blazers, scoring six points with three rebounds off the bench.
He played 20 minutes but the Warriors may rest him again on Monday in the second half of a back-to-back set. If he does sit out Marreese Speights will resurface in the rotation after going scoreless in a momentary cameo on Sunday.

Fri Apr 11 201421:31O'Neal out for Friday's game vs. Lakers
Jermaine O'Neal (rest) will not play in Friday's game against the Lakers.
Andrew Bogut is a go and that probably brings Marreese Speights into the rotation, but betting on him at this late juncture is a desperation play for deep formats at best.

Sat Apr 5 201401:58O'Neal nears double-double in start for Bogut
Jermaine O'Neal scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting with nine rebounds, three assists and one block in the Warriors' laugher win over the Kings on Friday.
O'Neal put a dent in his fantasy stock by playing just four minutes on Wednesday but got back into the rhythm tonight. Assuming there aren't any glaring red flags, if Andrew Bogut remains out then O'Neal will be worth a look as a short-term spot play.

Wed Apr 2 201419:21Jermaine O'Neal will have minutes monitored
Jermaine O'Neal is expected to have his minutes monitored against the Spurs on Wednesday.
He played 33 minute on Tuesday and the Warriors really can't risk putting him out there for that much time in both games of a back-to-back set. Draymond Green should get all the minutes he can handle at power forward while Hilton Armstong and Marreese Speights may get a little more playing time

Wed Apr 2 201400:17Jermaine O'Neal scores 20 points vs. Mavs
Jermaine O'Neal turned back the clock on Tuesday vs. the Mavericks with 20 points, eight boards and one block in 33 minutes.
He's played 32.0 minutes per game over his last three and the Warriors have to feel pretty good about how much they've gotten out of him this season. O'Neal probably won't be playing 33 minutes on the second night of a back-to-back set, so his prospective owners shouldn't have very high hopes on Wednesday.
