Wed Oct 8 201416:37Osgood waived by 49ers
Osgood has been waived by the 49ers.
This is to make room for San Francisco to sign safety Bubba Ventrone. Seldom used at wide receiver, dropping Osgood is more about special teams depth for the 49ers than what they want to do in the passing game.
Sat Sep 6 201416:21The 49ers released Osgood on Saturday
The 49ers released Osgood on Saturday, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
Osgood has been a special teams All-Pro three times in his career, but his value as a wide receivers has always been limited, and he's worth even less now that he's been released.
Tue Sep 2 201411:24Osgood expected to re-sign with 49ers on Wednesday
Osgood is expected to re-sign with the 49ers on Wednesday, CSN Bay Area reports.
Osgood was released by the 49ers over the weekend, but will return to the team once defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (biceps) is placed on the injured reserve/designated for return list. While Osgood's official position designation is wide receiver, he boasts merely 45 career receptions, making him of fantasy little value. Nonetheless, Osgood has been named to the Pro Bowl three times for his expertise on special teams, where he figures to continue as one of the league's premier kick coverage men this season.

A three-time Pro Bowler for his work on special teams, the 34-year-old Osgood has just 45 career receptions, and he may catch on elsewhere. His release bodes well for Brandon Lloyd and Quinton Patton.

Sat Aug 31 201313:1749ers cut special teams ace Kassim Osgood
49ers released WR Kassim Osgood.
Osgood is one of the most respected special teamers in the league, but couldn't crack a loaded 49ers roster. He was never a legitimate candidate for the receiver corps. Osgood should latch on elsewhere.

Tue Mar 13 201214:41Jaguars release WR Kassim Osgood
Jaguars released WR Kassim Osgood.
Osgood was due in excess of $2 million, which the Jags deemed too expensive for a one-trick pony special teamer who turns 32 in May. Osgood can still run down kickoffs and punts, but he couldn't even beat out Chastin West for playing time at receiver last season. Osgood may resurface for the NFL minimum.

Thu Nov 3 201111:22Osgood wants to play on offense
Jaguars special teamer Kassim Osgood said he wants more action at wide receiver.
Osgood has no catches on the season even though the Jaguars field one of the league's worst receiver corps. "I feel like they put the baby in a corner. Now I know what they think of me," Osgood said on Twitter. The career special teamer has an inflated perception of his skills as a pass-catcher.

Sun Dec 5 201012:07Osgood starting in place of MSW
Kassim Osgood will start in place of Mike Sims-Walker (ankle) in Sunday's game against the Titans.
Osgood is a physical presence known more for his special teams work than his skills as a receiver. He'll struggle to get open or make plays after the catch. Expect David Garrard to target Mike Thomas and Marcedes Lewis heavily.

Sun Sep 12 201020:14Osgood surprises with Week 1 TD
WR Kasim Osgood hauled in a 24-yard pass from David Garrard for a game-winning TD in the Jaguars Week 1 victory over Denver.
Osgood used his physical presence, and went over the middle to grab a ball in traffic in spite of solid pass coverage from S Brian Dawkins. As a fourth option on a pedestrian Jacksonville offense, Osgood should be left on the waiver wire.
Sun May 2 201014:39Kassim Osgood struggling at wide receiver
Kassim Osgood has failed to impress on the minicamp practice field so far as a wide receiver.
According to ESPN's Paul Kuharsky, the "verdict is already in" on how Osgood will be used in Jacksonville -- as "strictly an excellent special teamer." Osgood, 30, lacks suddenness as a route runner to get open. Mike Thomas, Jarett Dillard, and Troy Williamson will play more at wideout this season.

Thu Apr 8 201011:22Jags promised Osgood opportunity at WR
Kassim Osgood confirmed that the Jags promised him an opportunity to be a legitimate receiver when they signed him last month.
"I want to be a safety valve for the quarterback," said Osgood. "He's scrambling and I want to be open; be the quarterback's living video game." Dirk Koetter's offense has similarities to Norv Turner's, so it won't take long for Osgood to get acclimated. He'll battle Mike Thomas and Troy Williamson for the No. 2 job.
