Fri Nov 16 201210:30Scott Olsen signs with Rangers
Rangers signed LHP Scott Olsen to a minor league contract.
Olsen missed all of 2011 due to shoulder woes and appeared in just three games in the White Sox' minor league system in 2012 before being released. The lefty will turn just 29 in January, but he hasn't had modicum of success in the bigs since 2008 and is a longshot to ever make it up with the Rangers.

Wed Jul 11 201216:08Scott Olsen released
White Sox released LHP Scott Olsen.
Olsen made just three appearances for the Sox in the minors, giving up two runs over five innings, before getting the boot. It's not clear why the move was made, as it seems surprising given the team's lack of pitching depth. Olsen will look to catch on elsewhere.

White Sox signed LHP Scott Olsen to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a major-league option for 2013. Olsen signed a one-year contract with the Pirates last offseason, but didn't throw a pitch for the club due to ongoing shoulder issues and was granted his release in May. We're not expecting things to suddenly turn around for him with Chicago.

Scott Olsen was placed on the disabled list due to shoulder inflammation, not because of a hamstring injury as originally suspected.

Sat Mar 12 201108:48Olsen throws another round of live BP
Scott Olsen (hamstring) threw a second straight successful round of live batting practice Friday.
It's not clear when he'll get the ball in a game, but it should be soon. Olsen has fallen behind due to the injury in his bid to win the final spot in the rotation, but it's possible he'll be needed by default if James McDonald (side) is out a while. Both Charlie Morton and Brian Burres have pitched really well, though, so Olsen, who has expressed a hesitancy to be used out of the bullpen, might be on the outside looking in.

It's not a big deal unless the problem lingers, though Olsen will need all the time he can get to impress coaches if he wants to win a spot in the rotation. His main competition for the No. 5 starter gig will likely come from Charlie Morton.

Fri Dec 10 201017:44Pirates ink Olsen to contract
Pirates signed Scott Olsen to a one-year, $500,000 contract with a $4 million club option for 2012.
Olsen will have the potential to earn an additional $3 million in 2011 based on how many starts he makes. The soon-to-be 27-year-old posted a 5.56 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 17 games (15 starts) with the Nationals this past season. He simply hasn't been the same pitcher since his shoulder issues, and we're not expected a turnaround year in Pittsburgh.
Thu Dec 9 201009:27Report: Pirates agree to deal with LHP Olsen
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Pirates have signed Scott Olsen to a one-year, $500,000 contract with a $4 million club option for 2012.
He'll have a chance earn an additional $3 million in 2011 based on starts. Olsen, who turns 27 in January, posted a bloated 5.56 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 17 games (15 starts) with the Nationals this past season. He also had a few setbacks with his surgically-repaired shoulder. We're not expecting much, but it's hard to criticize an incentive-laden deal for the left-hander.
