Nationals optioned RHPs Garrett Mock and Adam Carr to Triple-A Syracuse.
Both came to camp with a shot to win a spot in the Nationals bullpen, and although Carr pitched well (no runs allowed in four innings), Mock was horrendous (9.64 ERA, 1/6 K/BB ratio in 4 2/3 innings). They'll represent right-handed depth at Triple-A.

According to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo, right-hander Garrett Mock (neck) felt a twinge during a bullpen session on Monday.
"We sent him to D.C. to get it checked out," said Rizzo. "It turns out he had something in his upper back that was causing the shoulder. It's a disc thing that put pressure on the nerve. He thought it was his shoulder, but it was actually (radiating) from his neck." It's not known when he'll be able to resume baseball activities.

Thu Apr 15 201013:44Nats place RHP Mock on DL
Nationals placed RHP Garrett Mock on the 15-day DL, retroactive to April 11, with a cervical spine injury.

Sun Apr 11 201009:54Mock optioned to Triple-A
Nationals optioned RHP Garrett Mock to Triple-A Syracuse.
With Livan Hernandez pitching Sunday, something had to give in the Nationals' rotation. Mock was the fifth starter coming out of camp and didn't pitch particularly well in his outing on Friday, so it makes sense that he is the man chosen to give way. Scott Olsen will assume the fifth starter role in Mock's absence.
Fri Apr 9 201022:25Mock makes an early exit vs. Mets
Garrett Mock allowed two runs over just 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Friday night.
He was very fortunate to escape with just a two-spot on the board. Mock threw just 44 of 84 pitches for strikes and walked five. He didn't exactly "win" a spot in the rotation this spring, posting a 5.79 ERA over 18 2/3 innings, so if he continues to struggle like this, he could soon give way to Scott Olsen.
