Mattheus was awarded the win Monday night despite allowing a run-scoring single to the only batter he faced. He gave up a hit by Kris Bryant, scoring Kyle Schwarber, but Anthony Rizzo was thrown out at third base on the play.

Mattheus was claimed off waivers by the Reds and will join the team Thursday.

Presumably, he'll work in middle relief for the Reds and take over the roster spot formerly held by Kevin Gregg.

Mattheus was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday.

He'll get a chance to make his case in spring training, but it's hard to see him not starting 2015 in Triple-A, where he spent most of 2014 until the Nationals outrighted him.
