Peralta could be used in the eight or the ninth depending on the matchups. He made his Cubs debut in the ninth inning of Monday's 11-8 win and faced two batters, allowing a solo homer to Joey Votto.

Yimi Garcia was brought back from Triple-A to replace Peralta, who will be out until at least Aug. 26 due to a right neck sprain. Peralta experienced a dead arm phase early in the season, which was found to be caused by a pinched nerve in his neck.

Peralta has allowed seven runs in his last 6.2 innings and is no longer in the late-inning/set-up mix ahead of closer Kenley Jansen.

Lately we've seen J.P. Howell, Pedro Baez, and Jim Johnson all setting up Jansen, and not Peralta. Peralta's strikeout and walk rates have declined significantly this season, giving him no real value.

Peralta was officially activated from the DL on Monday, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.

Peralta rejoined the team in Chicago on Monday, and he figures to be available as a reliever against the Cubs. He could eventually work into a setup role, but he'll likely serve in middle relief in the immediate future.

He made it through back-to-back appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday and Friday, clearing the final hurdle on his road back from an arm injury. The Dodgers won't return Peralta to the bullpen right away, however, with his activation not expected until Monday.
