Rays signed RHP Romulo Sanchez to a minor league contract.
Sanchez spent last season with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Pacific League, posting a 4.96 ERA and 19/7 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander has made 28 relief appearances in the big leagues between the Yankees and Pirates. He'll likely serve as organizational depth with Tampa.

There have been rumblings about a potential trade involving Sanchez for the past 24 hours. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 4.04 ERA and 19/17 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 major league innings between the Yankees and Pirates.

Sanchez, who served a couple of brief stints in the Yankee pen last year, has a 3.86 ERA this spring, though that comes with seven walks in seven innings. Control has always been a big issue for him, and he's nothing more than a 12th man on a major league pitching staff.
