The first overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft has turned in a mere 61 appearances over the last three seasons, so his decision doesn't come as a shock. After stints with five organizations, Martin will conclude his career with averages of 12.3 points (on 48 percent shooting), 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 31 minutes.

Martin was officially waived by the Bucks on Thursday, Fox Sports Wisconsin reports.

Martin was expected to be waived following a trade that sent Brandon Knight to the Suns and brought Michael Carter-Williams, Miles Plumlee and Tyler Ennis to Milwaukee. The veteran is now a free agent, and will have to look elsewhere for work.

While it's a fun story that Martin is getting another shot to contribute on a potential playoff team as a 37-year-old and former running mate of coach Jason Kidd, it should be remembered that his role is very small. It's unlikely he sees that many shots in that short of a time span in the future, but with Johnny O'Bryant III playing just 12 minutes Friday, it wouldn't be unlikely to see Martin move into a starting role, especially with his friend Jason Kidd as head coach.
