Fri Jun 19 201512:26Ogbonnaya has announced retirement
Ogbonnaya has announced his retirement, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
The 29-year-old Ogbonnaya carved out a nice career for a seventh-round draft pick, suiting up for 53 games between five different teams. He retires with 158 carries for 710 yards and two touchdowns, along with 96 receptions for 714 yards and another two scores. He wasn't an especially talented runner, but made up for it with his ability to contribute as a fullback, pass-catcher and special-teamer.
Mon May 11 201513:12The Giants have terminated Ogbonnaya's contract
The Giants have terminated Ogbonnaya's contract, the team's official site reports.
Following Ogbonnaya's release, the Giants' backfield is now headed by Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen, Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa.
Tue Mar 10 201514:36Ogbonnaya re-signed with Giants on Tuesday
Ogbonnaya re-signed with the Giants on Tuesday, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.
Ogbonnaya will likely have to compete for a roster spot, as the Big Blue backfield now includes Shane Vereen, Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. The team could opt to keep four running backs, with Ogbonnaya capable of playing fullback and contributing on special teams. Assuming he sticks with the Giants, Ogbonnaya is unlikely to get more than a few touches in 2015.
Tue Dec 2 201420:01Chris Ogbonnaya: Signs With Giants
Ogbonnaya signed with the Giants on Tuesday.
Ogbonnaya wasn't out of work for long, as he signed with New York just three days after being released by Carolina. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported Monday that Giants starter Rashad Jennings (knee) is unlikely to miss time, but Ogbonnaya will provide an insurance policy in Week 14 against the Titans. Ogbonnaya totaled just 50 yards on 14 carries with the Panthers (3.6 YPC) and would likely work behind Andre Williams if Jennings were forced to sit.
Sat Nov 29 201412:11Chris Ogbonnaya: Waived By Panthers
Ogbonnaya was waived by the Panthers on Saturday.
With DeAngelo Williams' foot seemingly at or close to 100 percent following the bye, and Jonathan Stewart and Fozzy Whittaker both healthy as well, the team went ahead and waived Ogbonnaya and added some defensive line depth in Micanor Regis. Ogbonnaya carried the ball 14 times in five games with Carolina this season, the last of which came back in Week 8.
Sun Nov 16 201411:45Ogbonnaya inactive for Sunday's game against Falcons
Ogbonnaya is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Ogbonnaya was re-signed to the Panthers' active roster after being released earlier this month, but he's fourth on the depth chart at running back and will not be in uniform Sunday.
Mon Nov 3 201419:35Ogbonnaya released by Panthers on Monday
Ogbonnaya was released by the Panthers on Monday, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
With the Panthers' stable of running backs returning to full health, Obgonnaya's services were simply no longer needed. The 28-year-old appeared in three games after signing in early October, rushing for 50 yards on 14 carries.
Sun Oct 26 201411:38Ogbonnaya (groin) active for Sunday's game against Seahawks
Ogbonnaya (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
During Friday's practice, Ogbonnaya came down with a sore groin, which required a cart to leave the field. Although he's recovered sufficiently to act as depth to Jonathan Stewart and Darrin Reaves, Ogbonnaya's recent injury scare may mean that he's available only in case of an emergency.

Ogbonnaya was carted off the practice field Friday because of groin soreness and did not return, the Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Jones reports. He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Few position groups in the NFL this season have fallen victim to injury as frequently as the Panthers' running backs. Now that Jonathan Stewart is back, Ogbonnaya was not in line for a significant workload, but his absence would clear the way for Darrin Reaves to serve as the primary backup to Stewart.
Fri Oct 24 201411:35Ogbonnaya carted off practice field Friday
Ogbonnaya was carted off the practice field Friday, the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person reports.
No details are available at this time, so this could be an injury or something as innocuous as an equipment problem. Either way, Ogbonnaya had just five carries for 17 yards in last week's loss to Green Bay and does not make for a very appealing fantasy play Sunday against Seattle.

Ogbonnaya is expected to serve as the primary backup to starter Jonathan Stewart on Sunday against Green Bay, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Stewart is ready to return after a three-game absence, but most of Carolina's other rushers are injured. Ogbonnaya is the only other back not listed as questionable or doubtful on the final injury report. He has just eight carries for 24 yards all season, however.
Sun Oct 12 201411:54Darrin Reaves
With Jonathan Stewart (knee) inactive Sunday against the Bengals, Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker and Ogbonnaya will split the workload at running back, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Start Ogbonnaya if you are desperate, but beware that Reaves had the most carries of the committee last week, and Whittaker is back to full health and will probably garner more opportunities. Bottom line, it's a mess for fantasy purposes, and Ogbonnaya is a risky play despite the appealing matchup against the struggling Bengals run defense.
Fri Oct 10 201414:16If Jonathan Stewart (knee) unable to play Sunday against Bengals
If Jonathan Stewart (knee) is unable to play Sunday against the Bengals, the Panthers plan to split carries between Ogbonnaya, Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker, the Associated Press reports.
Coach Ron Rivera is hoping to have Stewart available, but if that doesn't happen, we'll be looking at a similar setup to last week when the Panthers split carries between Reaves and Ogbonnaya. The matchup is better this week - the Bengals have been getting torn up on the ground recently - but Ogbonnaya still seems like a risky flex option at best, and that's only if Stewart misses the game.

Ogbonnaya rushed eight times for 24 yards and a touchdown Sunday versus the Bears.
Ogbonnaya scored on a one-yard plunge to tie the score during the third quarter of Sunday's game, but otherwise failed to make much of an impact. The recent signing's longest rush was for five yards and he was not targeting in Carolina's passing game. Since the health of the Panthers' backfield should improve by next Sunday, Ogbonnaya fantasy stock figures to remain restricted moving forward, but his touchdown Sunday was an encouraging contribution nonetheless.

Ogbonnaya may be used primarily for pass-blocking purposes Sunday against the Bears, while Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker could receive most of the carries, the Charlotte Observer reports. Reaves will be the starter.
Coach Ron Rivera said earlier in the week that he plans to give opportunities to all three players early in the game and ride the "hot hand" after that, but it appears that Ogbonnaya might be third in the pecking order, and therefore the riskiest fantasy play of the three.

Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that three running backs - Darrin Reaves, Fozzy Whittaker and Ogbonnaya - will receive carries early in Sunday's game against Chicago, the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person reports. After that, the Panthers plan to ride the "hot hand."
Although Ogbonnaya has the most NFL experience under his belt, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports that Whittaker and Reaves are the most likely to receive the majority of the touches. Nothing about this running back situation is certain, making any of the three a significantly risky play, even against a so-so Bears rush defense.

Ogbonnaya is set to act in a running back platoon with Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) and Darrin Reaves on Sunday against the Bears, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.
With Jonathan Stewart (knee) trending toward a DNP, coach Ron Rivera will have the aforementioned trio at his disposal, with which he claims to be "pretty comfortable." Whittaker doesn't even have one rush or target on the ledger this year, while Reaves took 12 rushes for 26 yards and three receptions for 11 yards in Week 4. Meanwhile, the wild card is Ogbonnaya, who averaged 4.9 YPC and gathered in 48 catches with the Browns last season. With much more NFL experience to his name, Ogbonnaya could very well relegate Whittaker and Reaves to bit roles this coming Sunday.

Ogbonnaya split first-team carries with Darrin Reaves on Wednesday, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Ogbonnaya was signed by the Panthers this week amid numerous backfield injuries leaving Carolina short on ball-carrying options. Given that dire situation, Ogbonnaya has been fast-tracked to work with the Panthers' starting offense this week. With DeAngelo Williams (ankle) already ruled out, and both Jonathan Stewart (knee) and Fozzy Whittaker (quadriceps) having uncertain statuses, Ogbonnaya and rookie Darrin Reaves represent the Panthers' only healthy running backs. Therefore, Ogbonnaya could see significant playing time this weekend versus the Bears, although he'll likely fill a complementary role considering his limited knowledge of Carolina's playbook. In 16 games for the Browns last season, Ogbonnaya totaled 240 rushing yards on 49 carries and caught 48 passes for 343 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

The Panthers have signed Ogbonnaya.
Ogbonnaya gives the Panthers' banged up backfield some added depth heading into Week 5, following the team's release of Tauren Poole.
Sat Aug 30 201411:10Ogbonnaya has reportedly been released by Browns
Ogbonnaya has reportedly been released by the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
With Dion Lewis also cut earlier in the day, rookie running back Isaiah Crowell now slots in as the team's No. 3 running back for the time being. Ogbonnaya, who has the versatility to play running back or fullback, should find reserve backfield work once the roster cut-down dust settles.
