The Indiana Pacers waived guard Toney Douglas on Monday. The 6-foot-2 Douglas played in five preseason games and averaged 6.6 points and 1.6 assists.

Douglas agreed to a deal with the Pacers on Tuesday, NBA.com reports.

The deal is believed to be a one-year, partially guaranteed deal. The Pacers had 15 players under guaranteed deals prior to signing Douglas. President Larry Bird spoke highly of the addition and believes Douglas fits the uptempo style they're trying to implement. The combo guard spent time overseas last season before latching on to the Pelicans via 10-day contracts. Should he survive training camp, Douglas projects as a third-string guard who can provide defense at crucial junctures.

Douglas will sign a non-guaranteed deal with the Pacers, Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today reports.

The Pacers already have 15 players under contract, so Douglas is joining the roster as a training camp invite and is the easiest option to discard prior to the season. The Pelicans waived him at the end of July, and he offers the Pacers point guard depth and veteran leadership. However, those two traits don't correlate to substantial fantasy value.

Douglas was brought on in early 2015 to help secure backcourt depth after Jrue Holiday went down with a leg injury. He may struggle to find another home in the NBA, so a return to playing overseas appears to be the most likely option for the 29-year-old. Douglas, who signed a pair of 10-day contracts and ultimately re-signed for the remainder of the season with the Pelicans, appeared in 12 games and posted averages of 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 15 minutes per game.

Douglas played in the Chinese Basketball Association through January and was then called upon by New Orleans when it was clear starting point guard Jrue Holiday was going to be out for an extended amount of time with a leg injury. Douglas wasn't brought in to be a significant contributor in Holiday's absence, as it was more for just insurance purposes, but when he did see the floor, he was formidable enough where he was not any sort of liability to have out there. Douglas will be a free agent this season, and if it is anything like the previous offseasons for him, there is a strong chance Douglas is back to playing overseas.

He previously played in the Chinese Basketball Association this season, which, along with the recent audition, could give another NBA team enough evidence to give him a chance.
