The Detroit Pistons waived forward Cartier Martin, guard/forward Adonis Thomas and center Jordan Bachynski on Friday.Martin signed with the Pistons as a free agent on Aug. 18, 2014. In 23 games with Detroit, the 6-foot-7, 220 pound forward averaged 1.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 8.6 minutes per game. In 243 career NBA games (15 starts) with Charlotte, Golden State, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago and Detroit, Martin has averages of 5.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 13.8 minutes per game.Thomas was signed on July 23 after spending last season with the Grand Rapids Drive, the Pistons' NBA Development League affiliate. Martin missed his second straight preseason game Thursday due to a right wrist injury, MLive.com's Aaron McCann reports.
Martin is one of several players in contention for the 15th and final spot on the Pistons' roster, so he'll likely need to get back on the court quickly in order to demonstrate to the coaching staff that he's the most qualified man for the job. The 30-year-old appeared in 23 games for Detroit last season, averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game.

Martin has officially exercised his $1.3 million player option to remain with Detroit for the 2015-16 season, Shams Charania of RealGM reports.
It was presumably an easy decision for Martin, whose deal will now be guaranteed for next season. After playing sparingly in just 23 games in 2014-15, Martin likely would have had trouble finding guaranteed money elsewhere. The Kansas State product will return to the Pistons in a similar role, primarily providing wing depth off the bench.

Martin appeared in 23 games for the Pistons in 2014-15, averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 rebound sin 8.6 minutes.
Playing for his fourth team in three seasons, Martin primarily provided frontcourt depth and saw double-digit minutes in only nine contests. In such a small sample of minutes, it's difficult to judge Martin's season, though he struggled shooting the ball, posting a field goal percentage of 28.3 (15-of-53) while connecting on only 6-of-33 three-point attempts. Martin is a career 37.2 percent shooter from the perimeter, however, so this season's numbers look like an anomaly. The Kansas State product holds a $1.27 million player option for next season, and it seems likely that he'll exercise it rather than chance his luck landing a guaranteed deal as a free agent. If Martin returns in 2015-16, he'll likely hold down a similar role as one of the last forward off the bench.

Martin (ankle) returned to action Friday, playing 16 minutes off the bench against the Bulls.
Martin missed three shots, two of them three-pointers, in the game. Other than those misses, his only entries into the box score were a pair of turnovers and a pair of personal fouls. Martin can be safely ignored in virtually all fantasy formats.
Wed Feb 11 201518:08Martin (ankle) will not play Wednesday against Spurs
Martin (ankle) will not play Wednesday against the Spurs, Dave Pemberton of the Oakland Press reports.
Martin will miss a second straight game, but he's been relegated to garbage time for much of the season, so his absence doesn't carry major fantasy ramifications.

Martin (ankle) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game, the Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell reports.
Martin had been playing a very minor role on the Pistons this season, and should not be missed in fantasy leagues. Consider him questionable for Wednesday's game.

Martin failed to record any minutes again during Wednesday's victory over the Orlando Magic.
Martin received another DNP coaches decision, despite 10 players receiving playing time in the win. He's played in only 13 games so far this season, averaging 1.7 points in just over eight minutes during those games. Unless some injuries occur to those ahead of him in the depth chart, he'll continue to spend most of his time on the bench, with an occasional showing during garbage time.
Tue Nov 25 201423:07Martin made debut with Pistons on Tuesday
Martin made his debut with the Pistons on Tuesday. He played two minutes off the bench in garbage time.
Martin missed the start of the season with strained plantar fascia in his right foot, and since being cleared to play, Martin has simply failed to carve out a role in the rotation. While he's unlikely to earn significant minutes this season, if Marting were to ever get consistent run with the Pistons, he'd be a decent source of three-pointers and great hair.
Mon Nov 17 201418:52Martin (foot) active for Monday's game against Magic
Martin (foot) is active for Monday's game against the Magic, MLive.com reports.
Martin has been sidelined all season due to a strained plantar fascia in his right foot, but an appearance Monday would mark his first since receiving medical clearance to play early last week. He may find difficulty earning run, though, as he resides near the bottom of the depth chart among Pistons wings.

Martin (foot) will not play Friday against the Thunder.
Martin is dealing with a plantar fascia strain and will sit out Friday. He was medically cleared to play on Monday, but he's still being held out, so there may be some lingering soreness. He should be considered day-to-day moving forward.
Wed Nov 12 201418:33Martin (foot) will not play Wednesday night against Wizards
Martin (foot) will not play Wednesday night against the Wizards, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.
Martin had been medically cleared to play Monday night, but he remained on the sidelines in street clothes, and will do the same Wednesday night. It's unclear at this point whether or not he will return Friday against the Thunder.
Tue Nov 11 201411:25Martin (plantar fascia strain) medically cleared to play
Martin (plantar fascia strain) has been medically cleared to play, but he remained in street clothes for Monday's loss to the Bulls, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said Martin has been medically cleared to play for a couple weeks, but the veteran wingman has been dealing with too much pain to even return to practice let alone play in a game. Martin remains day-to-day.
Sat Nov 8 201408:32Martin (foot) still sidelined with right plantar fascia strain
Martin (foot) is still sidelined with a right plantar fascia strain, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Martin has now been sidelined for the first five games of the season and it remains unclear on when he'll be making his season debut. However, the 29-year-old will likely have a hard time getting on the court even when healthy, considering that he's listed behind Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Jodie Meeks, and Kyle Singler.
Wed Nov 5 201411:42Martin (foot) will not play in Wednesday's game against Knicks
Martin (foot) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
Martin's right plantar fascia strain will keep him sidelined for a fourth straight game. While his role in the Pistons' rotation is expected to be a restricted one this season, it's unclear when he'll ultimately be able to return.
Mon Nov 3 201412:25Martin (right plantar fascia strain) missed practice Sunday
Martin (right plantar fascia strain) missed practice Sunday, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Cartier hasn't been healthy enough to suit up for the first three games of the regular season. The Pistons don't play again until Wednesday, but we should have a better gauge of Martin's availability if he's able to return to practice Tuesday. Upon his return, Martin is expected to have a limited role in the rotation.
Sat Nov 1 201418:23Martin (foot) will not play against Nets on Saturday

Martin hasn't been able to play this season as his foot is still causing him to be sidelined. He will likely be another game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
Sat Nov 1 201412:10Martin (foot) questionable for Saturday's game
Martin (foot) is questionable for Saturday's game, NBA.com's Keith Langlois reports.
He missed the first two games of the season with mild plantar fasciitis, but isn't likely to be a major part of the Pistons' rotation, even when he is fully healthy.
