Gillies has signed a minor league contract with the Padres, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.
Gillies is still just 26, but he's shown little in recent seasons to suggest a breakout could still be coming. He's posted an OBP below .300 in each of his last two minor league campaigns, with his mark falling to just .270 with the Phillies' Triple-A Lehigh Valley affiliate in 2014. While Gillies did smack 10 homers in 2013, most of those came at Double-A. He has posted just a .303 slugging percentage in 106 games at Triple-A.

Fri Aug 20 201015:31Details of Gillies arrest emerge
Phillies prospect Tyson Gillies arrest Friday stemmed from an incident in June when he was found to have cocaine on his person.
The delay in the arrest came because the substance was being tested to find out if it was cocaine or not. According to the Inquirer, Gillies was picked up by an officer in Clearwater, FL, in June and was driven back to his hotel. As he was exiting the cruiser, the officer noticed a bag of white powder on the floor of the backseat of the vehicle.
