Wed Nov 4 202016:42Sedar moving to advisory role on Brewers' coaching staff
MILWAUKEE (AP) — After working as a Milwaukee Brewers first-base or third-base coach for the last 14 seasons, Ed Sedar is moving into a new role as an adviser to the team’s coaching staff. That move marked the biggest change as the Brewers announced manager Craig Counsell's 2021 coaching staff Wednesday. Sedar had been the Brewers’ first-base coach from 2007-10 and third-base coach from 2011-20. He also has worked in the Brewers organization as a minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator (1992-2006) and minor league field coordinator (2002-06). “Eddie’s still going to have the responsibilities of helping us down in spring training, he’ll be around the major league team, in uniform before home games, and really just continue to serve as a resource for Craig and the rest of our staff,” Brewers general manager David Stearns said. Quintin Berry will take over as a base coach next season after working as the Brewers’ minor league outfielder and baserunning coordinator from 2019-20. Counsell... [More]

Mon Apr 23 201802:30Battle ready: Big leaguers logging long hours on Fortnite
Forget Fenway Park — David Price and the Boston Red Sox are feeling every bit at home at the Flush Factory. And in Houston, George Springer and the Astros are just as likely to be talking Boogie Bombs as balls and strikes. Why is Xander Bogaerts making an L with his fingers and dancing on second base? Who's the Ninja on Phil Hughes' Twitter feed? What's with Derek Fisher and llamas?Just like gamers everywhere, major leaguers have fallen hard for the Fortnite craze. And while it's not how John McGraw would teach teamwork, Port-a-Forts and Slurp Juice may be the biggest thing bonding some big leaguers."We play all day, every day," Springer said.Fortnite Battle Royale is perhaps the world's most popular video game, and baseball players are among its most voracious players. The game pits up to 100 competitors in a last-man-standing scenario, letting them mine materials from an ever-shrinking map while hunting down enemies with a variety of weapons. OF Quintin Berry, 32, had his contract selected from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday. He's 27 for 28 on stolen base attempts in his major league career. "It's not any secret why Quintin's here, he's here to be a baserunner," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "This is not just about stealing a base. This is about scoring first on a double, or from second on a two-out single." Berry pinch-ran for Stephen Vogt in the seventh inning.

Tue Sep 1 201517:26Berry called up from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday
Berry was called up from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old will provide the Cubs with a quality pinch-run option after swiping 35 bags at Triple-A this season, his sixth 30-plus-steal campaign in the minors. Berry brings little else to the table, offensively, as evidenced by his .237/.340/.302 batting line in parts of five seasons at Triple-A, but he can also play all three outfield positions.
Tue Aug 25 201517:26Berry signed minor league deal with Cubs and assigned to Triple-...
Berry signed a minor league deal with the Cubs and has been assigned to Triple-A Iowa, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Berry began the year with the Red Sox organization and appeared in 106 games for Triple-A Pawtucket, batting .228 with 36 RBI and 35 steals. The Cubs are likely most intrigued by his speed and will give him a look at the Triple-A level to conclude the season. While Berry hasn't played more than 13 MLB games since 2012, there's a slight chance Chicago views him as a pinch running option down the stretch, if needed.
Fri Mar 20 201507:13Berry (back) appeared in minor-league game Thursday
Berry (back) appeared in a minor-league game Thursday, the Boston Globe reports. He went 2-for-2 with a homer and played three innings, one at each outfield position.
Berry had been shut down since injuring his back while lifting weights earlier this month. There are way too many bodies in front of him in the outfield at the major-league level, so expect him to be with Triple-A Pawtucket to start the season.
Thu Mar 19 201506:57Berry (back) expected to play in game Thursday
Berry (back) is expected to play in a game Thursday, the Boston Globe reports.

Sat Jan 17 201519:07Berry has signed minor league contract with Red Sox
Berry has signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.
Berry compiled a respectable .285/.382/.367 batting line with 25 steals in 112 games with the Orioles' Triple-A Norfolk affiliate last season, but his ceiling as a Quad-A player is pretty well established at this point. The 30-year-old has little-to-no pop in his bat and figures to once again play out the season as organizational depth in the minors.
Tue Dec 23 201414:17Berry released Tuesday
Berry was released Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
With the addition of Ryan Lavarnway to the roster Tuesday, Baltimore released the 30-year-old, who appeared in 10 major league games last season. He spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A Norfolk, hitting .285 with 35 RBI in 365 at-bats.
Mon Sep 1 201415:26Berry will be added to Orioles' roster Tuesday
Berry will be added to the Orioles' roster Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Berry will provide the Orioles with another body in the outfield, but the likelihood of playing time is low given the loaded nature of the outfield. The 29-year-old hit .285/.382/.367 at Triple-A Norfolk this season and will look to push the Orioles into the playoffs. The team will need to make a corresponding move to put Berry on the 40-man roster.
Wed Mar 26 201417:07Orioles reassign Berry, Casilla to minors
Orioles reassigned OF Quintin Berry and INF Alexi Casilla to minor league camp.
Berry never really had a shot at an Opening Day roster spot and will function as organizational depth this summer for the Orioles. He is a .268/.339/.371 career hitter in 339 major league plate appearances.

Wed Mar 5 201422:22Berry leads off, fills up box score Wednesday
Quintin Berry led off and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Berry hit just .191 while bouncing between the Royals, Red Sox and Tigers' Triple-A teams last year, but the 29-year-old is trying to win a job with the Orioles as a non-roster invite to camp. Berry's best asset is his speed -- even with the miserable batting average, he still managed to steal 30 bases in the minors in 2013 -- something that the O's might have a use for on their bench. Still, it'll be an uphill climb for him to make the team at this point.
