Thu Jul 18 201321:04Ricky Williams to help coach at Texas college
Retired RB Ricky Williams will reportedly join the staff at University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio to help coach running backs.
UIW is making the transition to Division I athletics this year, joining the FCS as an Independent before becoming part of the Southland conference in 2014. Williams grew up in San Diego, but he went to school at the University of Texas. It's a nice opportunity for him to get his feet wet as a coach.

Fri Mar 30 201220:28Chargers not in talks with Ricky Williams
The Union-Tribune San Diego reports that the Chargers "have not had any discussions" with retired RB Ricky Williams.
Williams recently told a radio show that he'd come out of retirement if the Chargers had a mutual interest, but there has been no thought of that in San Diego. "The only way right now I would come back is if the Chargers called me," Williams said Wednesday. "It would be hard to turn San Diego down."

Fri Mar 30 201214:07Ricky Williams says he'd play for Chargers
Former Ravens RB Ricky Williams confirmed that he has filed his NFL retirement papers, but would consider playing for the Chargers in 2012.
Williams was placed on reserve/retired on March 2 and remains property of the Ravens. In order to make a comeback, Williams would need Baltimore to release him from his contract. He's under the Ravens' control through 2012.

Fri Mar 2 201214:02Ravens place Ricky Williams on retired list
Ravens placed RB Ricky Williams on the reserve/retired list.
The move allows the Ravens to retain Williams' rights should he reconsider a return to football. He is under contract for 2012, although Baltimore gets to take his $1.5 million base pay and $50,000 workout bonus off its salary cap. Coach John Harbaugh expressed skepticism before the Combine that Williams would reverse his decision, but you can't rule out anything with Ricky.

Fri Feb 24 201210:16Ravens no longer expecting Ricky to unretire
Coach John Harbaugh is no longer confident that Ricky Williams will reverse his decision on retirement to re-join the Ravens for the 2012 season.
"I have to admit, I was very supportive of him on whichever way he wanted to go," said Harbaugh, "but I felt like he'd call me back in a day or two and he'd change his mind because that's a big decision. But he didn't, he was very firm on it." Speculation has the Ravens considering a reunion with Le'Ron McClain as a backup tailback and fullback.

Mon Feb 20 201212:55Replacing Williams not 'high' on Ravens' list
According to the Baltimore Sun, finding a new backup running back to replace the retired Ricky Williams "doesn't appear to be very high" on the Ravens' to-do list.
Beat writer Jeff Zrebiec takes it as a sign that the Ravens might believe Williams will ultimately play next season. Just eight days before his abrupt retirement, Williams told Ravens.com he was "excited" about 2012. It's well within the realm of possibility Williams will un-retire for the second time during his weird and winding NFL career.

Wed Feb 8 201209:45Ricky concedes retirement may not be final
Ricky Williams readily acknowledges that his retirement might not be final.
"The easy answer is I've moved on," said Williams, "but the one thing I've learned about myself is, 'Who the hell knows?'" It's hardly rare for a veteran coming off a playoff loss to lean toward retirement only to reverse course in July or August. Williams' retirement may be due in large part to a text from Bill Parcells reading, "Don't chase this thing too long. You can contribute in other ways."

Tue Feb 7 201213:13Ricky Williams closes door on colorful career
Ricky Williams has reportedly informed Ravens officials that he will retire after 11 NFL seasons.
The Ravens would have welcomed him back at age 35, and Profootballtalk reports "there's a feeling he could return later in the offseason." Williams' colorful career has been one given to whims, so it would hardly be a surprise if he reverses the decision down the road. A dichotomy in shoulder pads, Williams' bruising, take-no-prisoners running style was offset by a softer, soul-searching side rarely seen among high-profile NFL stars. If this is truly the end, Williams finishes with 10,009 rushing yards, 2,606 receiving yards, and 74 TDs. A first-team All Pro in 2002, Williams is one of 26 backs in history to reach 10,000 yards.

Mon Jan 30 201219:00Ricky Williams plans to keep playing
Ricky Williams told Ravens.com that he plans to play a 12th season in 2012.
"My body feels good and I know I'm going to train hard and so I'm excited about next year," said Williams, who turns 35 in May. "... I'm not so surprised I've played this long, but I am surprised at how good I feel." The Ravens will eventually need to begin thinking about a better long-term No. 2 back behind Ray Rice, but Williams can hold down the fort for one more season.

Sun Jan 22 201218:39Ricky Williams finishes playoffs with 49 yds
Ricky Williams rushed six times for 22 yards in the Ravens' AFC Championship Game loss to New England.
Williams was an effective change-of-pace back throughout the season and chipped in a robust 49 postseason yards on 12 carries (4.08 YPC) while spelling Ray Rice. Ricky turns 35 in May, but is still playing at a high enough level that the Ravens figure to bring him back at his $1.5 million base salary.

Sat Jan 21 201213:30Ricky Williams hopes to return to Baltimore
Ricky Williams hopes to remain with the Ravens in 2012.
Williams served as a nice change-up to Ray Rice during his first season in Baltimore, averaging 4.1 yards on 108 carries. Under contract for a manageable $1.5 million in 2012, it's likely Williams will be retained for his age-35 campaign.

Wed Jan 4 201209:08Ricky Williams reaches 10,000 rushing yards
Ricky Williams has become the 26th player in NFL history to record 10,000 rushing yards in a career.
LaDainian Tomlinson and Thomas Jones are the only other active players in the club. Though Williams is the oldest of the trio, he's also the one with the most left in the tank after averaging 4.1 yards per on 108 carries as Ray Rice's valuable backup. Turning 35 in May, Williams is signed for $1.5 million in 2012.

Sun Jan 1 201221:05Ricky Williams held to 28 yards in Week 17
Ricky Williams rushed six times for 28 yards in the Ravens' Week 17 win over the Bengals.
His regular season ends with 444 yards and two touchdowns on 108 carries (4.11 YPC). Williams has a little bit of gas left in the tank, but not much. He will continue to serve as Ray Rice's caddy during the NFL postseason.

Sat Dec 24 201117:36Ricky Williams goes for 66 yards in Wk 16
Ricky Williams rushed 10 times for 45 yards and caught two passes for 21 yards in the Ravens' Week 16 win over Cleveland.
Williams experienced an uptick in workload because Baltimore jumped out to an early two-touchdown lead. The Browns made the game relatively close at the end. Williams, at age 34, has lost several steps and it's been apparent this season. He'll remain Ray Rice's caddy in Week 17 against the Bengals.

Mon Dec 19 201100:32Ricky Williams invisible in loss
Ricky Williams carried the ball just three times for 20 yards in Baltimore's Week 15 loss to the Chargers.
Williams was dropped out of the offense after Baltimore dug itself into a 17-point hole minutes into the second half. Although the Ravens will surely go ground-and-pound in Week 16 against a Browns team they abused for 290 yards rushing in Week 13 (including 76 from Williams), he's nothing more than a desperation bet in deeper leagues for the final week of the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Dec 11 201120:03Ricky Williams goes for 13 yards Sunday
Ricky Williams rushed seven times for 13 yards as the Ravens took down the Colts 24-10 in Week 14.
Ricky had a big Week 13 effort in a week with a game flow similar to this one's (early 24-3 Baltimore lead), but the reality is Williams has lost several steps at age 34. Ray Rice also played the entire game, racking up 32 touches. Williams has some appeal as a handcuff to Rice, but he lacks independent fantasy value.

Sun Dec 4 201119:42Ricky Williams gets 76 yards, TD in victory
Ricky Williams rushed 16 times for 76 yards and a touchdown as the Ravens whipped the Browns in Week 13.
The Ravens clearly game planned to attack the Browns on the ground, and Williams finished with season highs across the board. He did not see an increased role because of an injury to Ray Rice, who racked up 214 yards on 31 touches. Williams' role may be growing due to Baltimore's increased emphasis on running the football, but he won't be a quality fantasy option against the Colts, Chargers, or Browns in the final three fantasy weeks.

Mon Nov 7 201100:49Williams quiet as Ray Rice's backup vs. PIT
Ricky Williams carried the ball nine times for 24 yards and added one catch for 11 yards through the air against the Steelers in Week 9.
He is averaging less than seven carries per game and has just one touchdown on the year. Ray Rice isn't going to lose his workload anytime soon, so unless Williams starts getting the ball in the red zone he's a handcuff at best.

Sun Sep 25 201121:16Ricky Williams goes for 42 yards
Ricky Williams carried the ball five times for 42 yards in Sunday's win over the Rams.
He added one catch for 11 yards. Williams gained 28 of his yards on one carry, while four of his five totes came with the game well out of reach in the second half. Williams' fantasy value will be nil this season unless he's established as a goal-line option.

Tue Aug 9 201118:32Ricky Williams plans to play 2 more years
Ricky Williams plans to retire after his two-year deal is up.
"I think I will be ready for something else at that point," said Williams. He's essentially year-to-year at this point, as the Ravens could opt to go in another direction in 2012. Ricky will be 35 years old next season.
