Smith (suspension) was reinstated to the Chiefs' 53-man roster on Tuesday.
Smith completed his three-game ban that was levied after he was arrested on a DUI charge over the summer. He should immediately slide back into a starting role for Sunday's game against the Bengals, upgrading a Chiefs secondary that was routinely gashed by the Packers' Aaron Rodgers in a Week 3 loss.

Smith has been suspended for the first three games of the 2015 regular season after pleading guilty to driving under the influence, ESPN reports.
Smith, the Chiefs' top cornerback, will be forced to miss games against the Texans, Broncos and Packers. With the latter two teams boasting prolific passing offenses, rookies Marcus Peters and Steven Nelson could be tested early on in their NFL careers until Smith is eligible to return in Week 4.

Sun Oct 19 201414:38Smith (groin) active for Sunday's game in San Diego
Smith (groin) is active for Sunday's game in San Diego, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Smith's groin concern emerged for the first time since Week 4, but the cornerback has yet to take a seat this season. With 20 solo tackles, seven passes defended, and one interception through five contests, he's a decent option for those in dire need of DB output in IDP leagues.
Mon Sep 29 201419:10Smith (groin) active for Monday's game versus Patriots
Smith (groin) is active for Monday's game versus the Patriots, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Smith's groin injury contained the cornerback to limited showings in practice this week. No matter, he's facing the Patriots for the first time since donning a Dolphins uniform as a divisional foe in his first four NFL seasons, during which he didn't pick off Tom Brady but tallied 10 tackles (seven solo) across four tilts.

Smith ran primarily with the Chiefs' first-team defense at the right cornerback slot during Wednesday's practice, the Kansas City Star reports.
Meanwhile, Ron Parker, who had been seeing first-team duty at the position, split work on the left side Wednesday with starter Marcus Cooper. While Smith has yet to officially reclaim a starting job, Chiefs defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas noted that the cornerback is "having a pretty good camp," with the report suggesting that it may just be a matter of time before Smith overtakes Parker.
Fri Aug 8 201414:45Smith recorded pick-six
After replacing Ron Parker late in the first quarter of Thursday's preseason opener, Smith recorded a pick-six, ESPN.com reports.
Smith has been working with the Chiefs' second-team defense during camp, but he made a strong statement with his first play Thursday night and it wouldn't surprise us if he was reinstated as a starter in the team's defense sooner rather than later.
Thu Jul 24 201420:11Sean Smith working with the twos
The Chiefs have continued to use CB Sean Smith with their second-team defense in training camp.
Smith's OTAs demotion wasn't the result of his June DUI arrest. He's in serious danger of losing his starting job to journeyman Ron Parker, with sophomore Marcus Cooper locked in at the other corner. Kansas City's secondary is quite suspect, with deficiencies they'll hope to mask via a dynamic front seven.

Fri Jun 13 201413:57Chiefs demote Sean Smith to 2nd team
The Chiefs have demoted Sean Smith to the second-team defense at OTAs.
The coaching staff is presumably trying to send a message to Smith, who was recently arrested for DUI. With Brandon Flowers also away from workouts, Ron Parker and Marcus Cooper are working as Kansas City's starting corners. Pro Football Focus graded Smith as its No. 50 corner out of 110 qualifiers last year.

Sun Mar 17 201319:25Sean Smith gets just $5.5 million per year
Updating a previous item, Chiefs RCB Sean Smith's three-year contract is worth just $16.5 million in base value.
The cornerback market was a huge disappointment this year. Smith got paid more than anyone, and his lowly $5.5 million annual average doesn't even put him among the league's top-12 corners. Smith received $7.465 million in fully guaranteed money. He can push the deal's max value to $18 million via incentives. Smith will be able to reenter the free-agent market at age 28.

Thu Mar 14 201313:45Chiefs land CB Sean Smith with 3-year deal
Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Sean Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, on a three-year contract.
The news - which was first "reported" by Smith's former teammate Vontae Davis two weeks ago - comes via Smith's agent. He joins Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson to form one of the league's better cornerback trios, though Robinson could still end up at safety. It's the same failed strategy Andy Reid adopted in Philadelphia, but he's willing to give it a second chance as division-rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. Regardless of where Robinson plays, Smith will bookend Flowers on the outside. The Chiefs might not be ready to compete for a playoff spot, but are going to be a far tougher out in 2013.

Thu Mar 14 201313:40Raiders reportedly 'vying' for Sean Smith
NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the Raiders are "vying" for free agent CB Sean Smith, in addition to the Chiefs.
The Raiders weren't thought to be in play for any blue-chip free agents, but have jumped into the bidding as division rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. We doubt Oakland has the money to make the winning bid, but Smith's top priority is to "get paid." If Oakland can actually make the top bid, they'd be in position to make one of the more unexpected splashes of free agency.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are in pursuit of free agent Sean Smith, and Kansas City is "clearly" a viable landing spot.

Thu Mar 14 201309:3649ers aren't in Sean Smith mix either
A source tells CSN Bay Area that the 49ers are not involved with free agent Sean Smith.
We can now scratch the Niners and Eagles off Smith's suitor list. The Dolphins are reportedly interested in bringing him back and there are two other mystery teams involved. Perhaps the Bucs will settle for Smith if they can't get a Darrelle Revis trade done.

Thu Mar 14 201309:10Report: Eagles out of running for Sean Smith
A source tells CSN Philly that the Eagles are out of the running for free agent CB Sean Smith.
When free agency opened, the Eagles were in the market for two new starting corners to replace Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. They've signed Bradley Fletcher, but never appeared to be in the mix for Chris Houston or Derek Cox. Perhaps they're waiting out the market in hopes of a cheaper option like Cary Williams or Keenan Lewis. Smith, our No. 3 corner available, has surprisingly generated very little buzz this week.

Wed Mar 13 201323:19Teams waiting on Sean Smith
A source with knowledge of the NFL market tells Profootballtalk.com that "multiple teams" plan to wait for the weekend to push for top-shelf free-agent cornerback Sean Smith.
The teams want to go "bargain shopping" after a slow initial 30 hours on the cornerback market. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a top-five free-agent corner, settled for a one-year deal. Chris Houston got an affordable $5 million annually and was a top-seven or eight cornerback. It's fair to wonder if NFL teams are engaging in collusion, avoiding Smith, Aqib Talib, Brent Grimes, and to a lesser extent Keenan Lewis in order to keep their price tags down.
