The Raptors have hired Jamaal Magloire as a "basketball development consultant and community ambassador."
We'll consider this the equivalent of a retirement announcement for Magloire, who was waived by the Raptors during training camp this season. The one-time All-Star has career averages of 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 12 NBA seasons.

Mon Sep 10 201217:25Update: Raptors will still sign Magloire
The Raptors will give Jamaal Magloire a partially-guaranteed contract, according to the Toronto Star, but with 16 players under contract he may not make the regular season roster.
The signing of Dominic McGuire maxed out Toronto's roster and made the addition of Magloire unlikely, but it seems the team will let him fight for a spot during training camp. Beat writer Doug Smith suggests that "if Magloire doesn't stick on the roster he ... [could be hired] somewhere in the front office or in player development."

Jamaal Magloire will receive a non-guaranteed contract from the Raptors.
Magloire was with the team in 2011-12, and now he'll enter training camp on a non-guaranteed deal. Toronto does need some depth behind Jonas Valanciunas and Aaron Gray, so Magloire could conceivably stick around. He averaged 1.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 34 games last year.

Jamaal Magloire is shooting 2-of-11 (18%) from the FT line this season.

Fri Jan 13 201213:01Casey leaning toward Magloire as starter
Dwane Casey said that he's "leaning toward" starting Jamaal Magloire while Andrea Bargnani (calf) is out.
Magloire would start alongside Amir Johnson with Ed Davis coming off the bench. Magloire played just five minutes in his last game, while Davis logged 14 minutes (six points, six rebounds and a steal) in a reserve role. Magloire might start, but Davis offers significantly more upside and has a solid opportunity to put up some versatile stat lines while Bargnani is out.

Mon Jul 19 201011:59Magloire signs one-year deal w/ Heat
Veteran center Jamaal Magloire has officially signed a one-year contract to remain with the Heat next season. He will earn the veteran's minimum.
The Sun-Sentinel accurately sums up Magloire's value for the Heat -- "a bruiser on the court and a stabilizing presence in the locker room." He boasts career averages of 7.7 points and 6.7 rebounds, but isn't likely to even reach those numbers in Miami's suddenly stacked frontcourt.

Sat Jul 17 201011:42Jamaal Magoire expected to re-sign w/ Heat
Veteran center Jamaal Magloire is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Heat for the veteran's minimum.
Magloire is basically an insurance policy in case anything happens to Zydrunas Ilgauskas or Joel Anthony, but NBA teams can never have enough legitimate centers on their bench. Opportunistic, ring-seeking veterans continue to stampede toward Miami.
