Mon Dec 9 201310:58Roy Halladay retires from baseball at age 36
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, free agent Roy Halladay has decided to retire from baseball.
Halladay dealt with shoulder issues throughout the 2013 season and will hang up his cleats for good at age 36 rather than trying to reestablish his value with a new team in 2014. The right-hander will finish up with a 203-105 career win-loss record and a 3.38 career ERA. He signed a one-day contract Monday with the team that drafted him -- the Blue Jays -- so that he could officially call it quits in that uniform.

Fri Nov 8 201309:12Phillies interested in re-signing Halladay
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro has been in contact with Roy Halladay's agent, Greg Landry, recently and remains interested in re-signing the right-hander.
After dealing with shoulder issues this season, Halladay might not sign until late this winter and seems likely to have to settle for a one-year, incentive-laden deal. The veteran right-hander put up an ugly 6.82 ERA across 13 starts in 2013.

Mon Nov 4 201318:11Roy Halladay not made qualifying offer
The Phillies will not make a qualifying offer to Roy Halladay.
They'll also obviously decline his $20 million option for 2014, making him a free agent. Halladay really struggled down the stretch after returning from shoulder surgery and was eventually shut down with a "dead arm." He might have to settle for a one-year, incentive-laden deal this winter.

Mon Sep 23 201322:54Roy Halladay (arm) shut down for the season
Roy Halladay (arm) will not pitch again this season.
It comes after he lasted just three batters during Monday's start before being removed due to a "dead arm." Halladay also noted that he's recently been battling an illness related to his diet. The good news is that he's not feeling any pain in his shoulder or elbow, but his Phillies career, in all likelihood, is over. The 36-year-old will be a free agent this winter.

Mon Sep 23 201322:34Roy Halladay dealing with 'dead arm'
Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said that Roy Halladay is dealing with a "dead arm."
Sandberg noted that Halladay doesn't have any pain in his shoulder or elbow, which is obviously good news. The skipper is unsure whether Doc will make his final start of the season, but it would be a surprise if he does. Halladay lasted only three batters Monday before being pulled.

Mon Sep 23 201319:43Roy Halladay leaves outing with arm fatigue
Roy Halladay left Monday's start against the Marlins with right arm fatigue.
It's a vague diagnosis, but more should be known about Halladay's status eventually. The veteran right-hander walked two of the three batters he faced Monday and topped out at 83 mph. Doc seems unlikely to make another start this season.

Mon Sep 23 201319:30Roy Halladay exits start with apparent injury
Roy Halladay left Monday's start against the Marlins with an apparent injury.
Halladay lasted just three batters, walking two and retiring one on a foulout. It was clear from the get-go that something wasn't right, as his fastball was topping out at 83 mph. The Phillies should provide an update on the right-hander's status shortly.

Tue Sep 17 201322:25Roy Halladay holds Marlins in check
Roy Halladay held the Marlins to one run across six innings in Tuesday's 6-4 victory.
It wasn't that pretty, as Halladay walked three while striking out two and hit another batter (he's hit six in five starts since coming off the DL). However, he gave up only four hits, and just one of them went for extra bases. Yes, it came against the Marlins, but Doc will take it given his previous struggles. He'll try to keep it going next week in a rematch in Miami.

Fri Sep 13 201300:33Roy Halladay gives up five runs to Padres
Roy Halladay yielded five runs -- four earned -- in 4 1/3 innings Thursday against the Padres.
Halladay, who was pushed back a couple of days due to flu-like symptoms, managed to strike out six tonight, but he also walked five and hit a batter. He still looks nothing like the Halladay of old, and he can't be trusted in mixed leagues.

Tue Sep 10 201318:26Roy Halladay (flu) pushed back to Thursday
Roy Halladay's next start has been pushed back to Thursday due to the flu.
Halladay was originally supposed to get the ball Tuesday, but the Phillies are giving him a little extra time since he's under the weather. Tyler Cloyd will start Tuesday, while Cliff Lee will move up a day to Wednesday.

Sun Sep 8 201310:01Roy Halladay could be pushed back to Wed.
Roy Halladay could have his next start pushed back from Tuesday to Wednesday due to illness.
Tyler Cloyd could move up a day to start in Doc's place. If Halladay is pushed back, it would mean he wouldn't get two starts in the upcoming week. Fantasy owners shouldn't be counting on him, anyway, given his reduced velocity and numbers since coming off the DL (4.23 ERA, 8/9 K/BB ratio over 17 innings).

Wed Sep 4 201322:34Halladay rebounds to allow one run in ND
Roy Halladay allowed one run over six innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Wednesday.
Halladay's rebound performance was much-needed after surrendering five runs his last time out. The right-hander was stingy in limiting the Nats to just three hits, but he also walked five on the night. The start was indicative of just how good Halladay can be even in his diminished state, but it's still hard to trust him on a start-by-start basis. His next matchup is pitcher-friendly, though, as he takes on the Padres on Wednesday.

Fri Aug 30 201317:39Roy Halladay allows five runs in no-decision
Roy Halladay gave up five runs and two homers over five innings Friday in a no-decision against the Cubs.
Halladay turned in a quality start in his return outing Monday, but that came against a decimated and fatigued Diamondbacks lineup. He doesn't have the stuff of a generic major league starter right now, much less that of the Halladay of old. Proceed at your own risk.

Sun Aug 25 201317:41Fresh off DL, Doc Halladay tops the Snakes
In his return to the mound, Roy Halladay yielded two runs over six innings in a win against the Diamondbacks.
He struck out two, walked two and scattered four hits. The veteran righty underwent shoulder surgery in mid-May with a 2-4 record and 8.65 ERA. Halladay looked good after a lengthy layoff today and has a nice matchup on deck in Chicago against the Cubs, so owners should make sure he's active in the vast majority of formats.

Sun Aug 25 201308:40Roy Halladay to return from DL to start Sun.
Roy Halladay (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list to start Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Tyler Cloyd had been slated to start, but he was needed in Saturday's 18-inning marathon. Halladay was scheduled to make a minor league rehab start with Double-A Reading on Sunday, but the Phillies have decided to let him make an early return to the big club. Doc went six innings in each of his two rehab starts, so he shouldn't really be limited from a pitch count standpoint.

Sun Aug 25 201300:13Roy Halladay could start for Phillies Sunday
Roy Halladay could start for the Phillies in Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks.
Halladay was scheduled to make a minor league rehab start with Double-A Reading on Sunday, but with Sunday's expected starter Tyler Cloyd forced into action in Saturday's game, the Phillies will need someone to fill-in. He struggled in his first rehab start at Low-A Lakewood on Tuesday, but they may not have another option.

Wed Aug 21 201316:15Halladay (shoulder) to make next start at AA
Roy Halladay (shoulder) will make his next rehab start on Sunday with Double-A Reading.
The Phillies are bumping Halladay up a level despite his poor performance in a rehab outing Tuesday night at Low-A Lakewood. The veteran right-hander does not appear ready for major league competition and probably isn't worth stashing in standard fantasy leagues.

Wed Aug 21 201309:34Halladay (shoulder) makes latest rehab start
Roy Halladay (shoulder) allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings Tuesday in a rehab start with Class A Lakewood.
Halladay gave up seven hits and three walks while striking out four. He threw 52 out of 90 pitches for strikes and topped out at 89 mph on the radar gun. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro previously said that Halladay could be ready to come off the disabled list after just two rehab starts, but it's unclear what the next step will be. "I feel good," said Halladay. "I haven't had a lot of soreness the day after I pitch. I really think things are coming along well. I wanted to throw 100 pitches, but they had me scheduled for 90. When I get back is not in my control. It's their call, but I'm confident." The veteran right-hander is currently making his way back from shoulder surgery.

Thu Aug 15 201314:25Roy Halladay goes six innings in rehab debut
Roy Halladay (shoulder) allowed three earned runs over six innings Thursday in his rehab debut.
Pitching for the Phillies' affiliate in the Gulf Coast League, the veteran right-hander tossed a total of 87 pitches, yielding six hits and three walks while fanning four. It's possible that Halladay will be allowed to rejoin the Phillies after just one more rehab start. He has been out since undergoing shoulder surgery in mid-May.

Mon Aug 12 201317:23Halladay (shoulder) begins rehab stint Thu.
Roy Halladay (shoulder) will begin a minor league assignment Thursday with the Phillies' Gulf Coast league affiliate.
Halladay was cleared after he made it through a five-inning simulated game over the weekend. The veteran right-hander hasn't had any setbacks since shoulder surgery in May and could be back after two rehab starts if all goes well. It might be time to stash him in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.
