Chad Durbin, 35, has announced his retirement.
Durbin was released by the Phillies in late May after posting a 9.00 ERA over his first 16 relief appearances and then failed to latch on with a new team. He played for six different clubs during a 14-year major league career and will finish up with a 5.03 lifetime ERA.

Fri May 31 201314:17Chad Durbin released by Phillies
Phillies released RHP Chad Durbin.
It's not a surprise, given his 7.80 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 15 appearances this season. Durbin was pretty good last year, though, and shouldn't have trouble catching on elsewhere. He just might have to settle for a minor league deal.

Fri May 24 201304:27Durbin consistently being rocked for Philly
Chad Durbin sports a hideous 10.38 ERA in May.
His season ERA of 8.10 ain't much better. Durbin sat at a decent 3.52 ERA on April 29. Since that time, he's been a human pinata, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and four homers over just 3 2/3 innings. Durbin, 35, registered a solid 3.10 ERA in 61 innings last season for the Braves. Philadelphia may be wondering if they purchased a $1.1 million mole at this point.

The deal carries $350,000 worth of performance-based incentives. Durbin, 35, registered a solid 3.10 ERA in 61 innings last season for the Braves and should do well this year in a middle relief role with the Phils.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves are among the teams talking to free agent reliever Chad Durbin.
Durbin led the Braves with 76 appearances this season while posting a 3.10 ERA and 49/28 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. He should get a nice raise from the $900,000 he made in 2012.

Tue Apr 3 201216:32Braves sign Chad Durbin to one-year deal
Braves signed RHP Chad Durbin to a one-year contract.
Durbin failed to win a spot in the Nationals' bullpen this spring despite posting a 2.35 ERA and 15/3 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 Grapefruit League innings. He'll presumably function as a middle reliever for Atlanta.

Chad Durbin left Nationals' camp Thursday because his wife is scheduled to give birth to their second child Friday.

Wed Mar 21 201215:23Chad Durbin could use opt-out clause
Chad Durbin told Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post that he'll "shop around" if he doesn't make the Nationals' Opening Day roster.
Durbin's minor league deal with the Nats includes an opt-out clause. There's a chance it could be rendered irrelevant, as he's making a pretty solid case to claim a bullpen spot. After tossing two shutout innings Wednesday against the Braves, the 34-year-old right-hander has a 2.38 ERA and 9/2 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings this spring.

Wed Feb 1 201214:03Nats sign RHP Durbin to minors deal
Nationals signed RHP Chad Durbin to a minor league contract.
After inking Brad Lidge last week, the Nationals now have another former member of the Phillies' bullpen. Durbin, 34, had an ugly 5.53 ERA and 59/26 K/BB ratio over 68 1/3 innings with the Indians last season, but should fare better in his return to the National League East. He'll try to win a bullpen spot during spring training.

Tue Mar 1 201110:28Indians ink Chad Durbin to one-year deal
Indians signed RHP Chad Durbin to a one-year, $800,000 contract.
Durbin, a 33-year-old righty, can make another $1 million through performance-based incentives. He had been holding out for an offer from a contending team but decided to settle with the Tribe last week. Durbin will operate as a setup man or middle reliever this season.

Sat Feb 26 201108:16Report: Durbin gets 800K guaranteed from CLE
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Chad Durbin will receive $800,000 guaranteed on his deal with the Indians.
He'll have an opportunity to make an additional $1 million in "reachable" incentives, according to Crasnick's source. It's a bit surprising that Durbin, who was generally considered the best reliever left on the market, had to settle not only for such a low guaranteed amount, but that he took the deal from the Indians when he reportedly preferred signing with a contending team. Durbin will help set up for closer Chris Perez.

Fri Feb 25 201111:35Report: Indians, Durbin closing in on deal
The Indians and Chad Durbin are close to a contract agreement, according to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com.
Jon Heyman of SI.com essentially reported the same yesterday. Durbin, 33, posted a 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings with the Phillies last season and will fill a primary setup role with the Tribe. He is considered the best relief pitcher left on the market.

Thu Feb 24 201117:02Indians and Chad Durbin nearing agreement?
Jon Heyman of SI.com suspects that the Indians and Chad Durbin will reach an agreement soon.
The two sides have been talking recently and Heyman believes that a deal could be struck within the next day or two. Durbin, 33, posted a 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings with the Phillies last season and should do well in a setup role for the Tribe. He was thought to be holding out for a contract from a contending team, but spring training is in full swing now and he probably wanted to get into a camp.

Wed Feb 23 201112:50Durbin expected to make decision soon
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Chad Durbin is expected to decide soon between the Phillies, Red Sox, Mariners, Rangers and Rays.
This is essentially the same information that we learned on Tuesday night, but it bears repeating. Durbin is still holding out for a major league deal, but could reportedly return to the Phillies on a minor league deal if he is unable to find one. The 33-year-old right-hander posted a 3.86 ERA and 50/22 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings with the Phillies last season and is considered the best relief pitcher left on the market.

Tue Feb 22 201120:04Durbin could return to Phils on minors deal
According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Chad Durbin could return to the Phillies on a minor league deal.
Surprise. According to Gelb, Durbin's agent remains in talks with two teams on a possible major league deal, but no offers have been made. The 33-year-old hopes to decide on a team in the 48 hours, but if he doesn't receive a major league deal, he would be willing to compete for a spot with the Phillies as a non-roster player.

Tue Feb 22 201118:03Report: Red Sox interested in Chad Durbin
According to Peter Gammons of MLB Network, the Red Sox have made Chad Durbin an offer and are interested in him as a starting pitcher.
Durbin is arguably the best free agent reliever left on the market. While a recent report connected him to the Mariners, Gammons writes that the Rays and Rangers are also in the mix. The 33-year-old right-hander has a 3.62 ERA over the last three seasons -- all with the Phillies -- and hasn't made a start since the 2007 season as a member of the Tigers. He would reportedly like to pitch for a contender.

Sun Feb 13 201113:35Report: Mariners interested in Chad Durbin
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the Mariners are interested in free agent reliever Chad Durbin.
Durbin wants to pitch for a contender, but it's possible the Mariners might give him the best opportunity. Arguably the best free agent reliever remaining, Durbin has been holding out for a multi-year deal, but at this point he might not get that, either. Rosenthal and Morosi say the Rays could also have some interest, but it appears the M's might be the most likely landing spot.

Mon Feb 7 201113:56Durbin holding out for offers from contenders
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, free agent Chad Durbin is holding out for offers from contending teams.
Durbin has drawn plenty of interest this winter after posting a quality 3.86 ERA over 58 1/3 innings last year for the Phillies, but only non-contenders have made official offers. And the 33-year-old apparently wants a chance at a ring this season. Rosenthal suggests that the Rays, Marlins, Brewers and Twins could be good fits, but their level of interest is not yet known.
