Baez was released by the Phillies last August after posting a 6.29 ERA over 36 innings. The 34-year-old will hang it up with a 4.25 career ERA and 114 saves over 10 major league seasons between the Indians, Rays, Phillies, Orioles, Braves and Dodgers. | ||||||

After serving up a one-out double, Baez hit a batter, walked a batter, then walked in a run. After a two-run single, Lance Berkman completed the scoring with a three-run homer. Since throwing an unusually high 73 pitches over five scoreless innings on May 25th, Baez has been torched for 11 earned runs on 14 hits in 8 1/3 innings. | ||||||

Danys Baez is hoping to find success this season by adjusting his mechanics to more closely align with Brad Lidge's. | ||||||
Lidge rebounded dramatically last year, in part due to pitching on a downward plane. Regarding Baez, pitching coach Rich Dubee said, "He's got to get consistency in pitching down in the zone. When he's down in the zone, you see him getting a lot of balls chopped back to him." Baez finished 2010 with a 5.48 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. If he can mirror Lidge's downward approach and locate his pitches down in the strike zone, he could rebound nicely. | ||||||
