Sun Sep 6 201512:45Wootton (pectoral) placed on injured reserve
Wootton (pectoral) has been placed on injured reserve, Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News reports.
Wootton tore his pectoral in the closing minutes of the Lions' preseason finale against Buffalo. Despite his two-sack performance against Jacksonville in the Lions' third preseason game, Wootton likely would have been on the outside looking in even if he were healthy as he sat behind Ziggy Ansah, Jason Jones, Darryl Tapp, Devin Taylor and Phillip Hunt on the depth chart.

Wootton collected two sacks in the Lions' preseason win over Jacksonville on Friday.
After starting his career in Chicago and then Minnesota, Wootton is continuing his tour of the NFC North this summer with Detroit, but may not be around for much longer. Despite his strong performance on Friday, Wootton looks to be on the outside looking in just based off of the number of teammates he's competing with. With Ziggy Ansah, Jason Jones, Devin Taylor and Darryl Tapp all all but guaranteed a roster spot, Wootton finds himself competing with Larry Webster and Phillip Hunt for the fifth defensive end spot - presuming Detroit carries five defensive ends.

Wootton is just a rotational lineman for the Vikings and he therefore isn't much of an IDP consideration, but he should provide some useful energy off the bench.

Free agent DL Corey Wootton (hip surgery) said he expects to be 100 percent healthy by July.
Wootton underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum following the season. "I'm probably going to test the market and see what's out there," Wootton staid about free agency. "I'm just really excited to see what's going on. Obviously, I would like to stay with the Bears, but I don't know how it's looking." Wootton isn't expected back in Chicago but should draw significant interest as a versatile lineman.

Tue Feb 18 201414:56Bears unlikely to re-sign DL Wootton?
NFL writer Dan Pompei believes chances are slim that the Bears re-sign DL Corey Wootton.
"At this point, I'd say 65 percent chance he's gone," Pompei tweeted. Wootton is a versatile lineman who can play inside and outside, so he's likely to have plenty of suitors. He's recovering from offseason hip surgery to repair a torn labrum but is expected to make a full recovery. Wootton checks in as our No. 12 free-agent end.

A defensive end by trade, Wootton spent the majority of his time at defensive tackle this season. He logged 862 total snaps, 535 of which came on the inside. Bears GM Phil Emery says the team has yet to settle on a starting left end.
Corey Wootton and Shea McClellin are the two competitors. Emery says the Bears will monitor practice this week and make a decision ahead of Sunday. Wootton seems to be the front-runner, but both players are going to see an increased role from last season. Wootton will kick inside on passing downs.

The Bears listed Corey Wootton and Shea McClellin as co-starters at left end on their initial training camp depth chart.
Wootton is expected to take over Israel Idonije's old role -- starting left end but play inside at defensive tackle on passing downs. McClellin, last year's first-round pick, will get plenty of action, even if he's not a "starter."

Fri Jul 26 201322:24Corey Wootton to replace Israel Idonije
The Bears will use LE Corey Wootton in Israel Idonije's old inside-outside role on the defensive line.
Quietly a breakout player with seven sacks last season, Wootton will be the Bears' starting left end with Idonije gone to Detroit. The role consists of starting outside on early downs and kicking inside to defensive tackle in the nickel, rushing alongside Henry Melton. Wootton is an ascending player at age 26.

Wed May 22 201312:08Corey Wootton playing some defensive tackle
Bears DE Corey Wootton took some snaps at defensive tackle at OTAs Tuesday.
Wootton (6-foot-6, 270) is expected to be the starter at left end. Since the team has opted not to re-sign DE Israel Idonije, who kicked inside some, they're giving Wootton some looks. The former fourth-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he recorded eight sacks last season.

Fri May 25 201212:01Wootton in competition for roster spot
The Chicago Tribune suggests DE Corey Wootton will have to hold off Chauncey Davis and Cheta Ozougwu for a roster spot this summer.
Fully recovered from a broken hand that limited him last season, the 2010 fourth-rounder is as healthy as he's been in the NFL. Wootton has dropped his body/fat to 11 percent so he'll be able to "run all day" in training camp.
