Sun Nov 23 201421:30Minnesota interested in signing Pena to contract for 2014
Minnesota is interested in signing Pena to a contract for 2014, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Pena revitalized his career in Japan and hit .255/.344/.486 with 32 home runs for the Orix Buffalos last season. Pena is seeking to return to MLB and reportedly has interest from other teams as well. It's not clear where he'd fit with the Twins as the team is flush with DH and 1B types.

Pena had his best season in Japan in 2014, hitting .255/.344/.486 while cracking 32 home runs.
Pena is rumored to be interested in an MLB return for 2015, but it's likely that his best financial offers will come from Japan.
Sat Dec 7 201314:45Wily Mo Pena signs one year deal in Japan
Wily Mo Pena has agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Orix Buffaloes in the Nippon Professional Baseball League.
The 31-year-old slugger hasn't appeared in the major leagues since the 2011 season. He appeared in just 55 games in Japan last season, hitting a pedestrian .233/.322/.307 with just one homer and 16 RBI.

Mon Nov 11 201317:05Wily Mo Pena expected to remain in Japan
Wily Mo Pena is expected to remain in Japan next season.
Pena has drawn interest stateside, but there appear to be better offers in Japan. The 31-year-old hit 21 homers for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in 2012, but appeared in just 55 games this past season.

Fri Dec 2 201109:33Wily Mo Pe¤a signs with Japanese club
Wily Mo Pe¤a has signed a two-year contract with the Softbank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Pena is expected to earn around $5 million, so he'll get a big raise from his salary in the states and will probably fare well as a slugger for the Hawks. The 29-year-old will likely try to come back to MLB after a couple years overseas. He batted .204/.250/.416 with seven homers over 120 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks and Mariners this season.

Sun Nov 27 201109:15Wily Mo Pe¤a to sign with Japanese team
According to the Japanese website Sponichi, Wily Mo Pe¤a is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Softbank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball.
Pena will reportedly receive around $5 million, so it's no surprise that he decided to take the deal rather than catch on with someone in the states on a minor league contract. The 29-year-old batted .204/.250/.416 with seven homers over 120 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks and Mariners this season.

Mon Nov 14 201112:37Wily Mo Pena might play in Japan next season
According to Dionisio Soldevila of ESPN Radio, Wily Mo Pena is considering playing in Japan next year.
With his raw power, Pena could carry star-power potential overseas. In Major League Baseball, he's a guy without a position and an all-or-nothing approach. Pena slugged seven homers and struck out 39 times in 120 plate appearances between Seattle and Arizona this past season.

Mon Sep 19 201120:12Wily Mo Pena reaches four times
Wily Mo Pena singled in a run and walked three times in Monday's victory.
Pena had walked just twice in 101 at-bats this season coming into this one. It's the second time in 594 career games that he's walked three times.

Wed Aug 24 201115:49Wily Mo Pena homers, knocks in four runs
Wily Mo Pena went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and four RBI against the Indians on Wednesday.
He also walked, believe it or not. It's his only walk in 70 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks and Mariners this season. Pena is now 7-for-24 with two homers and six RBI for Seattle. He should be in line for additional at-bats.

Sat Aug 13 201118:07M's promote Wily Mo Pena from AAA Tacoma
Mariners purchased the contract of OF-DH Wily Mo Pena from Triple-A Tacoma.
He's back. Pena slugged five home runs in 46 at-bats for the Diamondbacks earlier this season and should post quality power numbers with Seattle. But major league teams tend to grow tired of his lack of versatility. He simply can't play the field.

Wed Jul 27 201120:16Wily Mo Pe¤a signed by M's
Mariners signed OF-DH Wily Mo Pe¤a to a minor league contract.
Pe¤a was cut loose by the D'Backs Sunday after being designated for assignment last week. He belted five homers in 46-bats during his time in Arizona, but also batted just .196 and struck out a lot. He'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Tacoma initially but could work his way up eventually and be used some in the DH spot.

Sat Jul 16 201109:34Indians not interested in Wily Mo Pe¤a
The Indians are not interested in the recently designated for assignment Wily Mo Pe¤a.
Pe¤a blasted five longballs in 46 at-bats with the D'Backs but also hit just .196 while striking out 19 times. He also is nearly incapable of playing the outfield and thus is limited to DH and/or pinch-hitting duty, something the Tribe doesn't have much use for.

Thu Jul 14 201118:59D'Backs designated Wily Mo for assignment
Diamondbacks designated OF Wily Mo Pena for assignment.
Pena slugged five home runs in 46 at-bats with the Diamondbacks but was let go Thursday due to his lack of defensive ability. He could draw interest elsewhere.

Mon Jul 4 201119:30Wily Mo Pena delivers pinch-hit homer
Wily Mo Pena hit his second homer in four at-bats as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Brewers.
He has five homers in 39 at-bats since his callup. That comes with a 17/0 K/BB ratio, but it would be nice to see him get some outfield time to show what he could do.

Sat Jul 2 201108:43Wily Mo Pe¤a not ready for OF duty
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said it's "possible" he could play Wily Mo Pe¤a in the outfield, but at the moment he has "no plans to do that."
Pe¤a has been taking balls in the outfield before games, but evidently Gibson doesn't trust him out there in game situations yet. That's fine while the D'Backs are playing in AL parks and have the DH available, but it means Pe¤a's at-bats figure to be reduced drastically starting next week when they start playing NL teams again.

Sat Jul 2 201100:59Wily Mo Pena homers as designated hitter
Wily Mo Pena got the start at DH on Friday and homered against the A's.
The Diamondbacks still haven't given Pena any time in the outfield, so it's hard to see how he might fit in once interleague play is over. That he has four homers in 30 at-bats makes him pretty intriguing, but it's hard to imagine him being of any use if he's getting three or four at-bats per week as a pinch-hitter.

Wed Jun 29 201102:48Pe¤a smashes pinch-hit walk-off homer
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday, Wily Mo Pe¤a hit a two-run homer to win the game.
Pe¤a's dramatic blast came off one of baseball's better middle relievers, Tony Sipp, against whom hitters were batting only .144 before the game. It was Pe¤a's third home run in only 25 at-bats since his call-up last week. His .652 career slugging percentage against the Indians is higher than against any other team. However, even with Tuesday's heroics, the ninth inning remains Pe¤a's worst frame for batting average (.216) and slugging percentage (.374).

Tue Jun 21 201122:50Pe¤a hits homer in 2011 debut
Wily Mo Pe¤a slugged a home run in his 2011 debut Tuesday in a 7-2 win over the Royals.
It was Pe¤a's only hit of the game and he struck out twice in four at-bats. Still, it's a positive sign for the 29-year-old slugger called up earlier in the day to play designated hitter in AL parks. Pe¤a slugged 21 home runs and registered a dominant .363/.439/.726 batting line in 63 games this season at the Triple-A level. If you could use a bat in your NL-only league, feel free to snatch Pe¤a immediately and hope for the best.

Tue Jun 21 201113:58D'Backs promote hot-hitting Wily Mo Pena
Diamondbacks purchased the contract of OF Wily Mo Pena from Triple-A Reno.
Pena slugged 21 home runs and registered a dominant .363/.439/.726 batting line in 63 games this season at the Triple-A level. It'd be foolish to expect the same kind of results in the major leagues, but the 29-year-old is certainly capable of making some noise. He'll act as Arizona's designated hitter on Tuesday at Kansas City.

Sun Jun 19 201119:38Diamondbacks to waive Burroughs, promote Pe¤a
The Diamondbacks will waive Sean Burroughs and are expected to promote Wily Mo Pe¤a from Triple-A Reno to play designated hitter during interleague play, according to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com.
Burroughs hit just .261/.261/.304 in 23 plate appearances before Arizona pulled the plug. Now 29 years old, Pe¤a last appeared in the big leagues in 2008 as a member of the Nationals. He certainly earned his promotion, hitting a ludicrous .362/.440/.733 slash line with 21 homers and 62 RBI in 266 plate appearances on the farm. If you could use a bat in your NL-only league, you might consider picking up Pe¤a to see if he can continue raking at the major league level. Keep in mind that the former top prospect posted just a .753 OPS over seven seasons at the big league level earlier in his career.
