Mon Jun 24 201302:02Brandon Roy hints at the end of his career
Updating a previous report, Brandon Roy said this weekend that his "basketball days are numbered," but he did not announce the end of his NBA career.
Roy was mistakenly quoted as saying, "My basketball days are done." The quote has since been amended but the conclusion is the same -- Roy's seven career knee surgeries will likely compel him to retire from the NBA in the near future, this time for good.

Sun Jun 23 201321:29Brandon Roy: 'My basketball days are done'
Brandon Roy conceded this weekend that his "basketball days are done."
Roy made the comments at a University of Washington alumni game. This statement has been expected since he was released by the Wolves after a disappointing 2012-2013 season, and even Roy noted that his impending retirement is "no surprise." Although he hasn't officially announced his retirement, it is only a matter of time.

Fri May 10 201315:47Wolves give up on Brandon Roy, career over?
Timberwolves released Brandon Roy.
This could very well be the end of the line for Roy. There was a clause in his contract that allowed the Wolves to terminate his two-year deal after one year if his knees weren't healthy. After appearing in just five games this season, it's clear he's shot. Once a rising young superstar in the league, Roy was felled by seven career knee surgeries. Now 28, the 2007 Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star is unlikely to get another chance. David Khan was the only GM silly enough to give Roy a guaranteed contract, and he's since been fired by the Wolves.

Brandon Roy (knee) will not play again this season, and GM David Kahn said not to expect Roy back with the team.

Wed Apr 10 201308:42Report: Brandon Roy hoping for one more game
Brandon Roy (knee), who is traveling with the Timberwolves, is hoping to play "at least one more time" this season, according to Ric Bucher.
Roy is reportedly targeting either April 13 or April 15, and before anyone gets too excited, it's possible he'll simply play a couple of minutes in order to get a basket. Bucher reports that Roy is hoping to continue his career, but it's hard to see how he'll ever be healthy enough to play 50-plus games again.

Mon Apr 1 201310:36Brandon Roy hoping to return this week
Brandon Roy (knee) has been practicing for two weeks and will ask Rick Adelman if he can return this season.
Well, that came out of nowhere. Roy was considered a long shot to play again this season due to ongoing knee issues, but his "tender right knee is improving," and Roy likely wants to play in at least one more game before being forced to make yet another decision on his playing career.

Sat Mar 2 201321:00Brandon Roy hopes to return in 1-2 weeks
Brandon Roy hopes to begin practicing when the Wolves return from their current road trip, and he believes he can return to action in "a week or two."
It should also be noted that Roy "has no idea how much or what level at which he'll play if he returns," according to beat writer Jerry Zgoda. All bets are off where Roy's knees are concerned -- it's great to hear that he's not yet ready to retire, but fantasy owners shouldn't look to him for reliable value.

Wed Feb 27 201307:46Brandon Roy still nowhere close to playing
Brandon Roy is traveling with the Timberwolves on their road trip, but he remains out indefinitely and not close to playing.
Beat writer Jerry Zgoda writes that there has been "no sign" of Roy practicing nor any sign of his return being "anywhere in sight." At this point, if Roy does return, it should be considered a pleasant surprise as time is running out on his career in the NBA.

Thu Feb 21 201307:46Rick Adelman not expecting Brandon Roy back
Rick Adelman admitted that he's not expecting Brandon Roy (knee) to return this season.
"If he does play, it will be a pleasant surprise," Adelman said. "I don't expect him at this point." It's a sad reminder that Roy's knee just isn't where it needs to be, and this could very well be the end of his career in the NBA.

Wed Feb 20 201307:56Report: Wolves could buy out Brandon Roy
The Timberwolves could buy out Brandon Roy if they're unable to trade him before the deadline.
We've heard this before, so it's not a huge surprise. Any team that would acquire him would do so with the understanding that he's unlikely to ever play again, and the two sides could revisit buyout talks as the season moves forward.

Sat Feb 9 201310:02Brandon Roy could work out this weekend
GM David Kahn said there's a chance Brandon Roy (knee) could start doing some individual basketball workouts this weekend.
Kahn said the final decision is up to Roy and the Wolves aren't counting on anything at this point. Roy has refused to walk away from the NBA despite chronic knee issues, but the Wolves have reportedly engaged his agent in buyout talks and appear ready to move on. With every day that passes, it's more and more unlikely Roy will play again this season.

Fri Feb 8 201308:40Report: T-Wolves could buy out Brandon Roy
The Timberwolves have engaged Brandon Roy's agent in contract buyout discussions, according to ESPN 1500.
I think I was pretty clear when I spoke to the media back in late December that I was clear with Brandon that every option was on the table and would be discussed," David Kahn said. Roy has shown an unwillingness to walk away and is not interested in retiring at the moment, but it's looking less and less likely that Roy will play again this season.

Fri Feb 1 201308:48Brandon Roy: I'm at a crossroad in my career
Brandon Roy, who experienced a setback with his knee and is out indefinitely, acknowledged that he's at a "crossroad" in his career.
It's possible we've seen the last of Roy in the NBA, and the former lottery pick is considering retirement if he can't get his knee right this season. "I look at it at it like this has got to be the last season," he said. "I don't have any regrets because I know I tried to give it another season." Roy could consider coaching in the future, and this is a sad way for his career to potentially end.

Thu Jan 31 201315:07Brandon Roy suffers another setback with knee
Brandon Roy (knee) said Thursday he suffered another setback recently but is hopeful he'll play again this season.
Roy is at the point where has to make up his mind about whether he can realistically play this season and this latest setback certainly doesn't help his chances of that. We remain highly skeptical he'll play again this season and it's fair to wonder if he'll ever be healthy enough to play in the league again.

Fri Jan 25 201309:03Brandon Roy still deciding on his future
Brandon Roy (knee) is "in a position where he just has to make up his mind if he feels he can be productive this year or not," according to owner Glen Taylor.
Roy remains out indefinitely, and according to Taylor, Roy is "right in the middle of that now." We're not counting on Roy to contribute to fantasy rosters again this year but we hope that this isn't the end of the line for him.

Fri Jan 18 201314:01Brandon Roy out at least two more weeks
There is no timetable for Brandon Roy's (knee) return, but he will be out for at least another two weeks.
It sounds like Roy would be available around the All-Star break, at the earliest. Fantasy owners can't count on him to contribute and there is no guarantee he'll be able to make it back this season.

Tue Jan 8 201309:35Brandon Roy still without a timetable
Brandon Roy (knee) has no timetable for his return.
"Brandon will play when--if and when--he's ready to play," said David Kahn. The Timberwolves won't rush his return and anything Roy can contribute to the team will have to be viewed as a bonus.

Thu Jan 3 201307:47Roy practicing 'a little bit,' status unknown
Brandon Roy (knee) has been practicing "a little bit," but his timetable remains unknown.
Following setbacks after his most recent surgery, Roy said he would explore a new treatment to get back on the floor. Roy has done some light shooting, and Rick Adelman doesn't know what the treatment is that Roy is receiving. He's expected to continue his workouts, but nobody knows when or if he might be able to return.
