Thu Jul 9 201510:22Freeland signed guaranteed contract with CSKA Moscow on Thursday
Freeland signed a guaranteed contract with CSKA Moscow on Thursday, Sportando reports.
After his previous employer, the Blazers, didn't extend a qualifying offer to Freeland, he stated his intention to return to Europe if no NBA offer came his way by the end of the free-agent moratorium. Lo and behold, he followed such a path and thus ends this portion of his career in the United States. In Portland, he never logged more than 52 games in any of his three seasons, whether it was due to injury or an inability to hold down a spot in the frontcourt. Overall, the British big man averaged 3.2 points (on 46 percent shooting) and 3.4 rebounds in 12 minutes.

Freeland is an unrestricted free agent after Portland declined his qualifying offer, Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders reports.
Portland has decided to keep Chris Kaman on board and have also acquired Mason Plumlee via trade, and with both those moves, it makes sense that they may be letting Freeland sign elsewhere. With Kaman, Plumlee the emerging Meyers Leonard and anyone else the team decides to sign in free agency, Portland must feel pretty comfortable with their frontcourt depth at the moment. Freeland has shown he can be a solid frontcourt contributor, especially with his ability to stretch the floor, so it's very likely he is able to find a home this offseason.
Thu Jun 18 201514:32Freeland doesn't expect to receive qualifying offer from Blazers
Freeland, who is a restricted free agent this offseason, doesn't expect to receive a qualifying offer from the Blazers, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
If such a scenario comes to fruition, Freeland would enter the land of unrestricted free agency this summer, but it won't necessarily mean the Blazers lack interest in the big man. In reality, with five players under contract, including only two starters (Damian Lillard and Nicolas Batum), the team is likely keeping its options open, one of which is a team option on center Chris Kaman. If Kaman's services are retained, the writing could be on the wall for Freeland's time in Portland, but Meyers Leonard's emergence in the second half of this past season may make the upcoming decision on the Englishman an easy one.

Freeland, who is an restricted free agent this offseason, averaged 3.5 points (on 49 percent shooting) and 4.0 rebounds in 13 minutes during the 2014-15 campaign.
Freeland opened the season as a regular in the frontcourt rotation, but his workload ramped up after Robin Lopez suffered a broken hand on Dec. 15. In the Blazers' first game without Lopez, Freeland came off the bench but soon enjoyed an eight-game cameo in the starting five, averaging 5.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 assists in 22 minutes. The run came to a halt when Freeland sustained a strained right shoulder, which, compounded with a slightly torn right rotator cuff, extended his recovery timetable from two weeks to one and a half months. Upon his return on Mar. 1, he was used sparingly, logging double-digit minutes nine times, versus eight DNPs, in the last 25 contests of the regular season. His upcoming test of the free-agent market allows the Blazers to match any offer the Englishman receives. However, the organization could reveal its hand when the decision is made, one way or the other, on Chris Kaman's team option.

Freeland tallied 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, two steals, and one block in 23 minutes during Wednesday's season finale at Dallas.
The Blazers were short-handed throughout their four-game losing streak to conclude the regular season, and Freeland profited with additional work in the final three contests. During that stretch, he far exceeded his typical output, averaging 10 points (on 62 percent shooting), five rebounds, one block, and 0.7 steals in 20 minutes. If Chris Kaman remains afflicted by a lower-back injury in the playoffs, Freeland can expect to uphold his recent standard, at least in terms of his workload.

Freeland (suspension) was available to play Monday, but ultimately logged a DNP-CD against the Wizards.
Freeland has played in just four games in all of February and March, and it's pretty clear that he doesn't hold much fantasy value this season. As long as Robin Lopez remains healthy, Freeland can be ignored in virtually all leagues.

Freeland has been suspended one game for his tussle with Shawne Williams during Friday's win against the Pistons, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Both parties were ejected after butting heads with more than a minute remaining in the game. In his three minutes of court time, Freeland failed to contribute to the box score, which has been commonplace since he returned on Mar. 1 from two months on the sideline due to a strained right shoulder.

Freeland (shoulder) logged 2 minutes of action in his return Sunday against the Kings. He didn't contribute any counting stats.
Freeland had missed nearly two months of action, and his return didn't spark any excitement in fantasyland. He's averaging just 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds this season, and is playing behind Robin Lopez in the rotation. In other words, he'll be a non-factor in all but the deepest leagues while Lopez is healthy.

Freeland (shoulder) will be available off the bench against the Kings on Sunday, digital report Casey Holdahl reports.
Freeland has been off the court since Jan. 3 with a shoulder injury. Despite his new availability, Freeland is only averaging 13.5 minutes this season and isn't expected to have a large role even when healthy.

Freeland (shoulder) has been officially ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Spurs.
Freeland hasn't appeared in a game since Jan. 3 with a shoulder strain. He's averaging just 3.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game this season, and should remain on the waiver wire in all leagues.
Wed Feb 18 201522:31Joel Freeland: (Shoulder) Approaching Contact In Practice
Freeland (shoulder) has yet to receive clearance for contact in practice, The Oregonian reports.
Freeland stated afterward that he's approaching a return to contact drills, which must occur before a return to the court will be a consideration. In the meantime, he'll continue to work his way back from a strained right shoulder sustained on Jan. 3.

Freeland (shoulder) said prior to Tuesday's win over the Jazz that he won't return for "at least a few weeks," The Columbian reports.
The Blazers' frontcourt is only one step away from full strength after the return of Robin Lopez to the lineup Tuesday. Freeland has recently progressed to shooting, but his return is contingent upon an MRI later this month. In the meantime, Meyers Leonard should scoop up the work available outside of fellow reserve Chris Kaman.

Freeland (shoulder) will not play Thursday against Phoenix.
A shoulder strain continues to keep Freeland on the sidelines, and the big man has not played in more than a month. He's without a firm return timetable, and the fact that he's already been ruled out well in advance of Thursday's game is an indication that he may not be all that close to returning to action.

Freeland (shoulder) doesn't expect to play on the Trail Blazers' upcoming four-game road trip, making the earliest target date for his return Feb. 3 against the Jazz, the Oregonian reports.
Freeland has been out since Jan. 3 and was originally only slated to miss two weeks, but that projected return date continues to get extended. At this point, it's fine dropping Freeland in most deep leagues where he may have been getting stashed. By the time Freeland is ready to return, Robin Lopez (hand) will be close to coming back as well.
Thu Jan 22 201521:01Freeland (shoulder) expects to miss at least couple more weeks
Freeland (shoulder) expects to miss at least a couple more weeks, the Blazers' official site reports.
After suffering a strained right shoulder on Jan. 3, Freeland was initially given a two-week timetable for an evaluation. However, he has not yet started basketball activities, signifying the slow recovery of the ailment. Expect precaution to reign over the rest of his rehab due to a previous "slight tear" of his right rotator cuff that he sustained while playing in Spain's ACB League. In a frontcourt also without LaMarcus Aldridge (thumb) and Robin Lopez (hand), the trio of Chris Kaman, Meyers Leonard, and Thomas Robinson will attempt to uphold their end of the bargain.
Thu Jan 22 201500:19Freeland (shoulder) has yet to resume basketball activities
Freeland (shoulder) has yet to resume basketball activities, which will commence once his shoulder doesn't exhibit discomfort, the Blazers' official site reports.
Because Freeland previously suffered a "slight tear" of his right rotator cuff during his time in Spain's ACB League, his recovery may have been extended due to the scar tissue that exists in the region. Therefore, it's not a shock that more than two weeks have passed without an evaluation of the injury. Once he restarts on-court activities, he'll likely factor into the Blazers' frontcourt mix shortly thereafter. In the meantime, though, expect Chris Kaman, Meyers Leonard, and Thomas Robinson to cover for a frontcourt without the services of Freeland, LaMarcus Aldridge (thumb), and Robin Lopez (hand).
Tue Jan 13 201515:55Freeland (shoulder) said Tuesday that
Freeland (shoulder) said Tuesday that, as of now, he believes he'll return slightly later than the original two week timeline, Erik Gundersen of The Columbian reports.
Freeland suffered a strained right shoulder last weekend and was originally slated to return near the end of the week. However, he's progressing more slowly than anticipated and will likely miss a few extra games. That should equate to additional starts for Chris Kaman, as well as increased time for Meyers Leonard off the bench.

Freeland left Saturday's loss to the Hawks due to a strained right shoulder and will miss two weeks, The Columbian reports.
Freeland suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter, and the prognosis emerged once an MRI was performed on the affected region. During Robin Lopez's (hand) absence, Freeland has averaged 5.1 points (on 48 percent shooting), 7.6 boards, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 assists in 22 minutes across nine games, including eight starts. The output has certainly been serviceable, but Freeland's greatest feat so far this season has been aiding the Blazers' surprising rise to the league's upper echelon in terms of defensive efficiency: they've allowed 93.9 points per 100 possessions when he's on the court, versus 100.8 when on the bench. Without Freeland and Lopez for the next few weeks, coach Terry Stotts must again shuffle the rotation, which should feature Thomas Robinson on a nightly basis, at the very least.

Freeland suffered a right shoulder injury in Saturday's game against the Hawks and will not return.
The extent of Freeland's injury is uncertain, but expect an update on his status as more details become available. Freeland started Saturday's game and tallied four points, five rebounds, and three blocks in 18 minutes before exiting.

Freeland got another start as Lopez sits out with a fractured right hand. He had another strong showing on Sunday, finishing with 10 points (5-7 FG), 10 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 25 minutes.
Freeland has been starting with Robin Lopez out, and coming off a 17 rebound performance on Friday he's putting up decent value if you need the short-term help. He won't post monster numbers, but he's capable of posting good value for daily league games.
