Johnson had 11 carries for 103 yards in Sunday's 42-17 win at Detroit. He did not score a touchdown, and wasn't targeted in the passing game.
Johnson had several big runs, including a 40-yard scamper in the first half that he nearly scored on. He likely would have had a much bigger game if not for the lopsided score, and the fact that rookie David Johnson vultured two short touchdowns. After struggling over the first two games of the season, the veteran Johnson has been fantastic in the last three, averaging better than six yards per carry. He appears to look as quick and fast as he did in his prime, which is surprising, especially considering he looked mediocre with the Jets in 2014. Meanwhile, Andre Ellington (knee) returned from a three-game absence and had only three carries, not seeing his first touch until the second quarter, although he did rip off a 63-yard touchdown run in the fourth period. Ellington is likely to see more work in the near future, but coach Bruce Arians has been happy with Chris Johnson, and should continue to use him a lot. In Week 6, the Cardinals will play the Steelers at Heinz Field.

Johnson had 16 carries for 83 yards and caught all three of his targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Rams.
Johnson looked quick and fast on a number of runs, also using jump cuts to make defenders miss. Meanwhile, David Johnson ran the ball just three times, although he caught four passes for 63 yards with a touchdown. The rookie RB did lose a costly fumble on the opening kickoff though. Andre Ellington (knee) still hasn't returned, but coach Bruce Arians said Chris Johnson will still be heavily involved. The Cardinals will try to get back in the win column next week at Detroit.
Fri Oct 2 201516:19Chris Johnson: Will Start Again
Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Johnson will start Sunday's game against the Rams, regardless of Andre Ellington's (knee) availability, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
Andre Ellington (knee) will likely be limited to passing-down work for the most part, if he's even active for the game. Johnson thus figures to lead the Arizona backfield for a third straight week, but his Sunday matchup is much tougher than the last two. Johnson may stay ahead of Ellington even beyond Week 4, so the Arizona backfield once again bears close watching.
Tue Sep 29 201520:42Chris Johnson: Likely to see 15-20 touches in Week 4
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians suggested that Johnson would remain heavily involved in the Cardinals' game plan in the Week 4 matchup with the Rams, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports 1 reports.
Despite the expected return of Andre Ellington (knee), Johnson looks poised to lead the Cardinals' rushing attack, with Arians projecting him to receive "15-to-20" touches. Johnson certainly looked up to the task this past week, as he carried 20 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns in the team's resounding win over the 49ers. It looks like Arians will stick with the veteran back until his production slows, after which Ellington figures to assume the lead role once again.

Johnson had 22 carries for 110 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's 47-7 win over the 49ers. He also had one catch for 40 yards.
Johnson was a beast early in the game, and showed good determination, constantly fighting for extra yaradge. He had both of his touchdowns in the second quarter, and almost had a third score on his 40-yard reception. Johnson remains the starter and appears to be the workhorse, while Andre Ellington is out with a PCL injury, as rookie David Johnson had only seven carries for 25 yards Sunday. It will be interesting to see how Chris Johnson is used once Ellington returns, as David Johnson is considered a superior pass catcher, meaning he should get most of the work on passing downs. Next week, Johnson and the Cardinals will face the Rams.

Johnson got the start Sunday against the Bears in place of the injured Andre Ellington (knee), finishing with 20 carries for 72 yards.
Rookie backup running back David Johnson returned the opening kickoff 108 yards for a score, while also adding a 14-yard rushing touchdown, so while the veteran Johnson dominated the carries (the rookie had five for 42 yards), the two could have closer to an even split in Week 3 if Ellington is unable to return. Head coach Bruce Arians said earlier in the week that he was uncomfortable giving a rookie running back a full workload this early in the season, but after Sunday's performance it wouldn't be surprising if they had a closer split until Ellington returns.

Johnson will start Sunday against the Bears on Sunday in place of the injured Andre Ellington (knee), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Johnson was certainly the favorite to get the spot, with rookie David Johnson also likely to get an increase in touches, as head coach Bruce Arians strongly intimated that he was more comfortable starting a veteran over the rookie, particularly early in the season.

Andre Ellington (knee), is out for Sunday's game in Chicago, leaving Johnson as the likely starter.
Although David Johnson also figures to benefit from some extra snaps in Ellington's absence, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians made it quite clear that he's hesitant to give the rookie a large role, which leaves the elder Johnson to lead Arizona's backfield against a weak Chicago defense. It remains to be seen just how serious Arians is about limiting the rookie's role, but there's at least some chance Chris Johnson will get more snaps than a healthy Ellington typically would, as the Cardinals are likely worried about the younger Johnson's pass-protection skills. On the other hand, there's no guarantee Arians sticks to his anti-rookie stance, as David Johnson is a much better athlete than CJ2K at this point in their respective careers.
Mon Sep 14 201514:26Chris Johnson: Opportunity Knocks
ESPN's Josina Anderson relays that Johnson's teammate, Andre Ellington, has has a PCL sprain that could keep him out two-to-three weeks.
With Ellington sidelined, the Arizona Republic indicates that Johnson -- who gained 37 yards on 10 carries in Sunday's win over the Saints -- is in line to start at RB for the Cards, with rookie David Johnson and Stepfan Taylor in the team's backup mix. Thus, in the short-term, beginning with Week 2's contest against the Bears, both Chris and David Johnson will see boosts in their fantasy value, with Chris Johnson, in particular, worthy of lineup consideration. For his part, coach Bruce Arians previously noted with reference to Chris Johnson possibly filling in for Ellington, "we will feel very confident if he is our lead dog."

Johnson carried the ball 10 times for 37 yards in Sunday's win over New Orleans.
Johnson would not have received so much work, but starter Andre Ellington left the game in the second half with a PCL injury. Meanwhile, rookie David Johnson did not carry the ball, but caught a 55-yard touchdown in the closing minutes to ice the win. It's interesting that Arizona chose to ride the veteran, not the younger Johnson when Ellington left the game. In any event, Chris Johnson's value is likely to get a major boost, at least in the short term, while Ellington recovers.

Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin said playing time will be distributed between Andre Ellington, Chris Johnson and David Johnson based on game flow in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Saints, the team's official site reports.
Andre Ellington will start and get the first chance to lead Arizona's backfield, but he's working on somewhat of a short leash in the wake of his disappointing 2014. Although it's unclear if Chris Johnson or David Johnson will be first to rotate in, all three running backs may get snaps during the regular-season opener. Chris Johnson has the lowest ceiling of the bunch, both for Week 1 and the entire season.

Johnson gained 45 yards on 11 carries and 10 yards on one reception (one target) in Thursday's preseason game against the Broncos.
Making his first appearance with the Cardinals, Johnson started and got plenty of work in the first half. His highlights were a 16-yard run and a 10-yard reception, with the second including a nice juke to make a defender miss in the open field. Johnson's spot on the roster should be secure, but it's still difficult to say how the Week 1 workload will be divided in the Arizona backfield. Though Andre Ellington is the unquestioned starter, both David Johnson and Chris Johnson are candidates to have key roles.

Johnson (hamstring) will start Thursday's preseason finale in Denver, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.
Johnson was already slated for 10-to-12 carries, according to the Cardinals' official site, but they'll occur shortly after kickoff. His performance will go a long way in determining where he stands in the running back pecking order behind Andre Ellington and perhaps rookie David Johnson.
Tue Sep 1 201519:04Johnson (hamstring) practiced in full Tuesday
Johnson (hamstring) practiced in full Tuesday, after which head coach Bruce Arians said the veteran running back could receive 10-to-12 carries, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Johnson sustained a sore hamstring to conclude his first week with the Cardinals, forcing absences from the last two preseason contests. However, he returned to drills Friday and has built up to a full practice Tuesday, which bodes well for his availability Thursday. With Andre Ellington likely sitting out, there's a chance that Chris and David Johnson could work in tandem out of the backfield.

Johnson (hamstring) will practice Tuesday and may play in Thursday's preseason game against the Broncos, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports.
Johnson is competing with third-round rookie David Johnson for backup slotting behind Andre Ellington, who is expected to have his workload eased from last season. The former Jet should be fine for Week 1, but his ability (or lack thereof) to play in Thursday's exhibition may affect his role.

Johnson (hamstring) isn't slated to play in Sunday night's preseason game against the Raiders, ESPN's Josina Anderson reports.
Per the report, Johnson is still having issues with his hamstring and while the running back is improving on that front, he is still not ready to make cuts at full speed. Either way, despite the name recognition, Johnson is competing with rookie David Johnson for primary backup duties behind Andre Ellington. In the event that the veteran secures the job, he'd be an Ellington injury away from fantasy utility, but at this stage he remains a speculative option in standard formats.

Johnson (hamstring) is considered a game day decision ahead of Sunday's preseason game against the Raiders.
Johnson has been sidelined for the past week due to a hamstring ailment, but returned to practice Friday. While he's unlikely to play long if cleared for Sunday's preseason game, it would at least be good for Johnson to receive some full-speed snaps with his new team. Nonetheless, the running back's status won't be determined until closer to kickoff.
Fri Aug 28 201514:15Johnson (hamstring) practicing Friday
Johnson (hamstring) is practicing Friday, Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.
Johnson only missed one week of practice, but given that he's been with the Cardinals for less than two weeks, the minor injury may have already hurt his chances to earn a significant role by Week 1. He'll hope to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Raiders as he competes with David Johnson for whatever snaps don't go to Andre Ellington.

Johnson (hamstring) fit in a test run Thursday to determine if he can return to practice Friday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Johnson initially sustained a sore hamstring last Thursday, missing last Saturday's preseason game and every practice in the interim. With the potential for a return Friday, he would set himself up for his first game action as a Cardinal on Sunday. If such a development is delayed, though, Johnson would likely fall further behind rookie David Johnson in the quest for primary backup RB duties to Andre Ellington.
Wed Aug 26 201515:08Chris Johnson: (Hamstring) Could Practice By Week's End
Johnson (hamstring) could return to practice by the end of the week, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
Prior to Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Johnson was ruled out due to a sore hamstring, which was soon accompanied by a 1-to-2 week recovery timetable. However, head coach Bruce Arians upgraded the veteran running back to day-to-day Monday, and he's presumably drawing closer to a return to drills. Johnson would likely do himself a favor with an appearance Sunday at Oakland, but there's no guarantee that he'll achieve active status, thereby allowing rookie David Johnson further opportunity to lock down the primary backup role to Andre Ellington.
