Sunday's game was Fitzpatrick's first this season without two touchdowns, but the Jets relied heavily on the run, with Chris Ivory rumbling for a career-high 166 yards. Fitzpatrick isn't expected to light up many fantasy scoreboards, though he does have dangerous wideouts in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker that surely make him playable in two-QB leagues. Up next is a Week 6 game against Washington following a Week 5 bye.

The good news is that Decker could return in Week 4 against the Dolphins in London, giving Fitzpatrick one of his favorite targets back.

With Fitzpatrick mostly impressive in leading the Jets to a 2-0 record, Geno Smith (jaw) is expected to rejoin the team in a backup role, likely at some point in October. Of course, Fitzpatrick still has time to play his way out of the starting job, and he may be without Eric Decker (knee) in the coming weeks.

Fitzpatrick put together another commendable display Monday, helping the Jets' offense move the ball while only committing one turnover. The veteran showed a strong rapport with his top two wideouts, combining to complete 15-of-21 passes, including both of his touchdown tosses, to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. On the back of two straight wins, Fitzpatrick has acquitted himself nicely as the Jets' starting quarterback and will look to continue his steady play in Week 3 against the Eagles.

Fitzpatrick completed 15 of 24 passes for 179 yards with two touchdowns and one interception Sunday against the Browns.

The Jets controlled the game for the majority of the second half, keeping Fitzpatrick from having to throw the ball very often. He looked like he had a third touchdown pass, but lost it to an offensive holding call. His touchdowns went to his two top targets, Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Fitzpatrick completed 9-of-14 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's game against the Giants.

It was a strong showing from the veteran, who spread the ball around to seven different receivers and completed touchdown passes to Eric Decker and Zac Stacy. Fitzpatrick is likely finished as far as the preseason is concerned, but he will start for the Jets in the opening portion of the regular season and will have the opportunity to produce in what should be an improved offense.

Fitzpatrick completed 13-of-19 passes for 118 yards in Friday's preseason game against Atlanta.

Playing well into the second quarter, Fitzpatrick looked good enough to remain the starter while Geno Smith (jaw) is out, but will need to show he can throw deep to keep defenses honest and open up the running game if he wants to stay on the field when Smith returns.

When new head coach Todd Bowles was asked about the Jets' quarterback situation, he acknowledged that if Fitzpatrick's playing well, he could hold onto the job. In the past, he's had success playing for new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, especially in 2010 and 2012, when he averaged 23.5 TDs.

Fitzpatrick's teammate Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw Tuesday morning and will be out for 6-to-10 weeks, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

Smith has dominated the first-team reps throughout offseason workouts and training camp, but with one swift punch from an angry teammate, Fitzpatrick is now in line to open the season as a starter. It's possible Fitzpatrick runs with the role and takes advantage of the Jets' improved receiving corps, but there's also a very real chance that Smith takes the job once he's healthy. Between his lack of arm strength and the Jets' desire to focus on the run, Fitzpatrick probably won't offer much in the way of upside, even while playing with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Devin Smith.

Meanwhile, fellow QB Geno Smith took the majority of the Jets' first-team reps in 11-on-11 work Wednesday. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey relayed last week that Smith is on track to remain the Jets' starting quarterback, with Fitzpatrick -- who now appears past the fractured leg that ended his 2014 season -- in line to provide the team with a veteran backup/insurance policy at the position.

The Texans traded Fitzpatrick (leg) to the Jets on Wednesday in exchange for a conditional late-round draft pick, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Per the report, the Texans are in line to receive a 2016 seventh-rounder that could become a sixth-round choice, based on Fitzpatrick's playing time in 2015. With the Jets, Fitzpatrick will be reunited with the team's new offensive coordinator, Chan Gailey, who was the Bills head coach from 2010-12, a span in which Fitzpatrick played for (and saw starting duty with) Buffalo. Given that new coach Todd Bowles has held off on declaring returnee Geno Smith as the Jets' starting QB in advance of this coming season, Fitzpatrick will presumably be afforded an opportunity to compete for the job.

Fitzpatrick (leg) is likely to be traded to the Jets once fellow QB Brian Hoyer officially signs with the Texans, the Daily News reports.

Once Hoyer is in the fold, with Ryan Mallett also in the Texans' QB mix, Fitzpatrick -- on track to earn $3.25 million in base salary in 2015 -- will be the odd man out in Houston. With the Jets, Fitzpatrick would represent an experienced backup/veteran alternative to third-year signal-caller Geno Smith.

Fitzpatrick (leg) is roughly two months away from being able to work out again, Drew Dougherty of the team's official site reports.

Fitzpatrick is currently on season-ending IR due to a broken leg suffered Week 15, but the injury is likely to heal in time for the beginning of the 2015 season. It may limit him a bit in offseason workouts, but Fitzpatrick -- who is signed through next year -- expects to compete with Tom Savage for the starting gig in 2015.

Fitzpatrick, who suffered a fractured leg in Sunday's loss to the Colts, will require season-ending surgery, ESPN.com reports.

To make matters worse for the Texans, the Houston Chronicle relays that Tom Savage -- who took over for Fitzpatrick on Sunday -- was limping after the game, and is slated to undergo an MRI.

The rushing touchdown, his second this season, made up for a lot of it, though the absence of Andre Johnson, who suffered a concussion in the second quarter, did nothing to help Fitzpatrick. Up next is a Week 15 matchup against the Colts, who are allowing the eighth-most passing yards per game this season, though it won't be as easy if Johnson misses out.

Fitzpatrick completed 24-of-33 passes for 358 yards and a franchise-record six touchdowns Sunday against the Titans, while also adding 10 rushing yards on two carries.

Fitzpatrick started the first nine games of the season before he was benched in favor of Ryan Mallett, but he got his job back after Mallett was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a pectoral injury earlier this week. Fitzpatrick completed passes to six different receivers, throwing touchdown passes to DeAndre Hopkins (two), Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Ryan Griffin and J.J. Watt. While he's unlikely to throw for six touchdowns again, Fitzpatrick has a good matchup in Week 14 against a Jaguars defense that came into Sunday allowing the sixth-most passing yards per game this season.
