Santana (shoulder) will remain with the Blue Jays past his opt out date April 28, Scott MacArthur of TSN 1050 reports.
Santana continues to work his way back from a shoulder issue, and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2012. He began throwing off flat ground in earlier April with the hopes of returning to the mound at some point later in the month, but there's no word of that yet. If he eventually does return to the mound and subsequently to game action at some point, it's unclear right now whether he would serve as anything more than organizational depth.

Santana (shoulder) is progressing, but is not expected to throw off a mound until mid-April, SportsNet's Shi Davidi reports.
The Blue Jays will look to Santana and possibly Randy Wolf at some point if their rookies (Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez) struggle in the rotation. Still, as a seventh or eighth starter returning from serious injury, Santana is only worth an investment in the deepest of leagues.
Thu Feb 26 201518:10Johan Santana: (Shoulder) Reaches Agreement With Jays
Santana (shoulder) signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays that includes an invite to major league spring training, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports.
The 34-year-old lefty hasn't pitched in the majors since 2012, when he posted a 4.85 ERA, 4.09 FIP and 111:39 K:BB over 117 innings for the Mets. He signed with the Orioles last spring, and after recurring shoulder issues delayed his potential debut, Santana went down for the season with a torn Achilles at extended spring training. He then played for a team in the Venezuelan Winter League, only to be shut down early when shoulder discomfort again reared it's head. An MRI revealed no structural damage, and the Blue Jays thus decided to take a very small risk on the former Cy Young winner. Now that Santana's with a team, it's possible that we'll get some more solid information on his shoulder.

Santana is a total wild card but isn't a bad stash in deeper fantasy formats.

He'll now remain in the organization rather than opt out of his minor league deal. Santana has progressed slowly but steadily from a second shoulder capsule surgery and will begin a rehab assignment soon. Johan Santana (shoulder) will make one more rehab start in extended spring training before moving up to Double-A and Triple-A.

That schedule would put him on track to be ready to join the Orioles in mid-June.
