According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Elmer Dessens' minor league deal with the Giants fell through.
No word on the reason for the break-up. Dessens, 40, posted a 2.30 ERA and 16/16 K/BB ratio across 53 relief appearances with the Mets last season. He'll probably latch on somewhere else by the middle of the spring.

Giants signed RHP Elmer Dessens to a minor league contract.
He'll compete for a middle relief job during spring training. Dessens would earn $600,000 if he spends the entire season in the majors. The 40-year-old right-hander posted a 2.30 ERA over 53 appearances with the Mets last season, but it masked a pretty awful 16/16 K/BB ratio over 47 innings.

According to Fernando Ballesteros of Puro BeĦsbol, the Giants have signed right-hander Elmer Dessens to a minor league contract.
The news was passed along by Nick Collias of MLB Trade Rumors. We're still awaiting confirmation from the team, but Ballesteros was told of the signing by Dessens' agent. Dessens, 40, posted a superficially impressive 2.30 ERA over 53 appearances with the Mets last season, but had an awful 16/16 K/BB ratio over 47 innings. He'll struggle to earn a spot on the big club.

Mets officials have informed reliever Elmer Dessens that he will not be brought back for the 2011 season.
The free agent right-hander lowered his asking price this month, hoping that the Mets would be open to inking him to a minor league contract. "They said, 'We're going in another direction,'" Dessenns told ESPN New York on Monday. The 40-year-old posted a strong 2.30 ERA across 53 major league relief appearances last season and should be able to find a contract elsewhere.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Elmer Dessens from Triple-A Buffalo.
He'll provide the Mets an extra bullpen arm for this weekend's interleague matchup against the Yankees. Dessens, 39, had a 2.12 ERA over 13 appearances with Buffalo. He posted a 3.31 ERA in 28 games with the Mets last season.
