C Chuck Hayes was signed by Houston on Sunday. Hayes, 32, played his first six seasons with Houston before signing with the Sacramento Kings in 2011. The Toronto Raptors allowed his contract to expire at the end of last season.

Hayes signed a one-year deal with the Clippers on Monday, Mark Berman of FOX Sports reports.

Hayes committed to signing with the Rockets earlier in the offseason but the deal fell through after Houston was unable to clear enough cap space to officially acquire the veteran. Obviously that cleared the way for Hayes to now join the Clippers where he's expected to provide depth off the bench behind Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Josh Smith.

Hayes has decided not to sign with the Rockets after originally coming to an agreement with the team in July, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The acquisition of Ty Lawson lead to the Rockets being unable to make the cap figures work well enough to meet Hayes' contract requirements. They asked him to join the coaching staff, but the 32-year-old Hayes still wants to play at this point in his career and is looking for a team that wants him on the regular-season roster.

After spending the first six seasons of his NBA career with the Rockets, Hayes is returning to the team on a one-year deal. He only appeared in 29 games for the Raptors last season, averaging just 1.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in nine minutes per game, and given the depth Houston has in their frontcourt, it is likely Hayes will have a limited role in their rotation as well. However, at 32 years old, Hayes still provides a good veteran presence and can log quality defensive minutes when needed.

Hayes spent his first six NBA seasons with the Rockets, who opened room on their roster following Sunday's trade agreement for point guard Ty Lawson. Although Hayes' minutes average decreased during each of his four seasons since leaving Houston, a return to the Rockets should come with an appreciated role as a rugged reserve frontcourt contributor.

Hayes contributed 1.7 points (48% FG, 0% 3Pt, 55% FT), 1.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks in nine minutes per game during 29 regular season games in 2014-15.

The 10-year-veteran didn't log a single minute of action during the Raptors' postseason series versus the Wizards, and he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Hayes scored four points with two rebounds in seven minutes off the bench Friday.

His minutes are sporadic and mostly come in garbage time, but with Tyler Hansbrough getting ejected on Friday game following an altercation with Festus Ezeli, the Raptors' frontcourt could be a little thinner for a couple of games, opening up a bit of extra court time for Hayes.

Hayes returned to the rotation on Sunday, but threw up a blank line in five minutes on the court, but did manage to record two fouls.

Hayes isn't really expected to do much until he's called upon by his team. Toronto features so many other capable big men that it's going to be hard for Hayes to get any playing time unless and injury or major change occurs in Toronto. As a result, keep him on the waiver wire.

Hayes missed all three of his shots while chipping in two assists and a rebound in six minutes of garbage time during Sunday's shellacking of the 76ers.

He's gotten a little bit of run recently as Amir Johnson deals with his latest ankle issue, but when the Raptors are healthy there just isn't much room in the front court rotation for Hayes.

On the one hand, Hayes is the old man on a team of kids and needs a lot less preseason work to get ready for opening night. On the other hand, Greg Stiemsma continues to come off the bench before him and get more minutes at center. There's been no word yet from the Raptors that Hayes' spot is actually in jeopardy, but he really doesn't offer the club much other than his veteran savvy so it wouldn't be a huge shock if he was sent packing.

Hayes may find himself in another uniform this season after the Raptors signed Greg Steimsma to a one-year contract.

Will Cherry and Jordan Hamilton are both on non-guaranteed contracts, which could make them roster casualties as well, but with Jonas Valanciunas as the starter, rookie Lucas Nogueira needing some minutes and Amir Johnson still likely to slide over to the five when coach Dwane Casey goes with a small lineup, the depth chart at center might just be too crowded to accommodate both Stiemsma and Hayes.

He played 14 minutes off the bench with two points, 10 boards and two fouls. Hayes is just depth for the most part and the Raptors won't need him much with Jonas Valanciunas playing well.

Coach Dwane Casey's team was on life support for giving up way too many easy baskets and he looked for any kind of jolt off his bench. Hayes' minutes have actually increased in each of his last five games, so this is an interesting trend. He's still only on the radar in deep leagues.
